Turbo propane drinkin 05 900 polaris... yeah, we did it.

It has a boost guage, just not hooked up for these runs. Wasnt conserned because i already knew what the waste gate was set up for about 7. I will get it hooked up between now and go time.

Yes, but if you are overboosting or underboosting you would never know.

Changes in elevation can significantly change boost you get as well.

Boost vac gauge is a quick and easy way to determine if you have intake leaks as well.

it desfinately has some issues. we got some ideas to deal with them, but she was makin some interesting sounds and it pops out the pipe hard everytime you let off.. also need to check the reeds out, considering it backfired so hard it blew the airbox up, they might not be in prime shape. either way, it was rideable all day and came out under its own power.

we had some issues with my sled today as well which has some sort of boost leak, so we are going to be doing a round of pressure testing on both sleds just to make sure everything is all nice and sealed up... either way, i guess when you try something this far from the norm, you have to expect to have some trouble on the first real ride.,

Are you guys still running the big fat tanks? Or did ya figure out how to get a seat on it

Does it smell like a forklift, or just two stroke oil?

Very cool to see ya getting to try out some new stuff!

awesome keep us posted on progress and maybe some more close up pics and a parts break down?

working on better tank options, but on this one, trying to use forklift tanks as it allows the ability to swap in and out and get them filled. The tunnel has a LOT of cleanrance inside, so we can drop it down aorund 1-2" which will really help, we have a hollowed out seat for it, its just not done yet with the tank mounts.

it smells REALLY good with the propane and 2 stroke oil... its very different, but i like anything propane smelling.

and there is some sort of electrical demon that needs finding out right now, so until thats sorted out the sled is somewhat taking a backseat. it wont kick into reverse for some reason, and considering the only electrical change we made was removing the fuel pump, something strange is going on.

definitely check tps settings, even just a little bump can set them off, also, follow the wires up the pigtail for the tps harness, people had problems with the wires being brittle and shorting out

Do you get the same power from propane as with regular fuel?
How do you tune it? EGT or AFR?

Sounded really cool!

thats where we are at, and considering the motor has been in and out about 100x the chance of the wires being messed up is VERY likely.. but only time and some testing will tell.

as far as tuning, we have both afr and egt.. starting with egt right now as propane gets insanely hot in the pipe if its just a hair rich..

propane has a little less power per volume compared to gas, BUT, we have SO much more octane available, we just turn the boost up another # or two and your right there.

as for the side dump.. it SUCKS, its horrible loud, i dont like being around it.

and for parts. its basically a v8 propane conversion robbed off a 350 chevy. all impco parts. electric lockoff solenoid, model e regulator and a 425 mixer.. these parts have been around forerever and are just stupid simple and work.

yeah, so am I!!!

I think it might go back to gas for a while until we figure out all the electrical demons it has right now, as these are really hurting us getting anything smart figured out. also, we need to change the exhaust as its horrible.. its so insanely loud you dont even want to ride it.

I think it might go back to gas until we can get some more info on running the richer gas valve and the lighter spring in the regulator. if this shows positive results on my sled, it will go onto that one as well. as right now its running 16+ afr cruising on the trail. thats not good.

check out cascade designs and northwest rivers supply for lightweight propane tanks. i believe they are making carbon fiber propane tanks.
River runners like propane for there camping equipment and i have seen the carbon propane tank. I just don't know if they will be big enough for you.

thanks for the thoughts. I am working on some custom aluminum ones for mine right now, and if they work out and are reasonably $$$ I will make another set or two.

this is NUTS...i love it.

if you guys need any help with that wiring issue, send me a PM.

but sounds to me like a TPS harness is out...the wires are brittle and will break inside the insulation near the harness where it clips to the sensor ;)

good luck man, let me know if you need anything
