At the end of the season i ran out of Sunoco , so i bought an accuator and turned down my 8 to run on pump gas . I was very lazy and just left the race gas clutching in it. At 7.5 - 8 lbs it would only pull 7100-7200 rpm , and i beat up on alot of M1000's like that . And not by just a little , i would go by there high mark at 5 - 10 mph.
But this was at close to 8000 feet , maybe an M1000 mod would be closer at 5000. I think the brand of kit you are running and who set it up plays a big role in this . Is your 8 running 4 injectors? And what brand pump gas sleds did you ride ?
The only pump gas sleds I've ridden have been BD, can't speak for anyone else's kits. I've run with two pump M8's (VOHK sleds) & three dragons (Xtreme in Denver) (also a few other turbo dragons, but 3 that were pump gas, set up & healthy) I ran across one D8T that a guy said he did himself that was a ripper, (he said it was pump?) there was no comparison between that one & the others I've run with, not sure why, if they all ran like that one I wouldn't have bought a race turbo.
Maybe the days that I've ridden against them we didn't have enough snow to make them shine, not sure. They're great sleds, but running my little 141 crossfire, I wasn't overly impressed with any of them, on the other hand if you can add a bit of race gas & just turn them up a little bit, it's a whole other ball game, I'll admit that. The RTR's & M8's at 6-7 were less than impressive though imo.
btw, we're riding 10k+ mostly, but about 1/2 of the turbos I've played with were a bit lower (9kish).
My wife's Cutler setup is 2 injector btw, so I would think you could turn up most kits to match what we're getting, or am I wrong on that? I'll try to get out with more of them this next year in bigger snow, but in deep snow I would hope that ANY longtrack would do well against my 141, it's not quite apples to apples. I'm not trying to talk smack about the pumpers, but more realistically tell people that if you're going to do it, go all the way, spend the extra $800 or whatever with whichever company you can get good service from, it's worth it.
