Tubo on the 800 dragon Good or BAD

I have an 08 and an 09 drag, Im thinking of putting a tubo on one. but ive herd that you need to rebuild the motor every 2000 give or take. Does anyone have any proof, thoughts, or Ideas.

as far as top end rebuild (pistons and rings) i plan on doing it every 1000 miles, and reeds will probably get changed every 6-800 miles. a guy could probably run them longer but why? two sets of reeds a year and two sets of pistons is under $600 and if i can get through a season with only $600 in repair bills i'll be extatic

If you put it that way no thats not too bad. On my 08 put 2000 miles on last yr. and it cost me zero but there is the lack of horse power that might be usefull. my other thought is here where i ride very little with out tress and i mean very little, so im not conviced that it would be worth the extra?
thank you great imput.

I'll be spending alot of time on a '09 Dragon OVS settup this year and we ride alot of trees as well. Went with the Aerocharger settup. Will be offering demo rides for people interested sometime this season if you care to come to Wa to try one out before dropping the $$.

I spend most of my time in the tree's as well. I have had the same dilemma about the turbo and I decided to go without. I have yet to feel the need for a turbo in the tree's and in my experience, I don't see the turbo crowd much in the tight stuff. I'm sure there are some that have turbo's and do the tight tree riding but I just don't see them except in the open. If you want a little extra boost in HP why don't you consider a Nitrous system for occasional use.

if the turbo and trees worries you ..go talk to chris at carls cycle..they make an 860 big bore that outran boondockers race gas turbo out to 1000ft. last spring..the guys who got to ride all the sleds raved about the 860.....price is about the same as a pump gas turbo kit..it is also very very reliable and pull and go....

Outran to 1000 feetmaybe...But after that
the turbo blew by at atleast 25mph higher speed....
I dont know...but that 860 must be a monster
When racing non turbos last year
Normally when you had braked down to
zero in the end of the field/Lake/Hill and turned the sled back they would pass/Struggle up ....
BD Race Turbo D8
welcome to the turbo revolution.....:beer;

I agree I havent seen any normally asperated sled run with my turbos I ride with a M1200 race motor and I get him everytime.. I know the 860 is strong but its not 12 pounds of boost strong!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yup, because that is what is the funnest part of sledding and what we all like to do the best... run up and down an open field. yee haw! not to be too big of an a-hole but really, with the exception of a long drag race (most competitions are 660 feet) and open hill high marking, when do you ever hold the throttle wfo more than a 1000'? yes the turbos make unbelievable power and can climb almost anything. i ride with a guy with a $35k+ 340hp apex that is crazy sick, but really just not for me. if an 860 will pull a turbo dragon up to 1000', i'll take the 860 any day and i know, over all, i'd have more fun on the 860. but maybe that's because i don't have one... that, i no longer need to have the biggest d!ck on the hill. good luck and enjoy whatever you decide to do. are turbos a revolution or a fad?

F-Bomb wrote this last spring. Take it how you want

I wasn't on either of those two sleds during random heads up testing but I was running other sleds along beside (I say along side but what I really mean is that we started along side and I was back about 10 lengths!) and you could see that the turbo had more legs. The 860 would be ahead to about 800-1000 ft and then the turbo would leg it on by. Really hard slickery snow and none of those sleds really hooked up that great on the leave. (for example my 660 which hooks really good and gets with the program whooped up on all three 600, 700, and 800 turbos in a very short drag race 400-500 ft but at somewhere between 400 and 500 feet the 800 turbo went by me at over 20mph! The 6 couldn't run with me no matter how far and the 700 was closing but not like that 8T. Anthony Oberti was on all the turbos I was on 10X 660 and he can verify) I will also say that the twin pipe 860 didn't quite have the same giddiup as it did when we had it in Bend last weekend but it is still OUTSTANDING.

This particular turbo setup ran and felt like our Aerocharged 700 turbos but at 11 to 12 boost except this was at 7.5lbs. Also the setup was much more linear and smooth. The T8 felt good fast and smooth up a short relatively steep 800ft hill. Very very similar to how the 860 and 840s felt on the same hill. Didn't run them side by side up that hill for comparison so we just have the seat of the pants to go from. Very close all awesome!

Here is a breakdown of speed as I saw it with hard pan gradual hill drag racing...lots depending on starts and lots of variables. IE you could win a drag race on anyone of four setups depending on the run. All of the fast 3-4 were pretty darn close for this limited test.
0-1000ft
from fastest down
1140 Carl's
860 twin piped black sled
or tie with
800 Boondockers turbo (at 800 to 1000ft the turbo goes by)
800 twin pipe ported race gas
840 single tie 860 single (back and forth but darn near the same)

Kinda like the Quarterhorse and the Thoroughbred! The 860 (Quarterhorse) is unbeatable in the trees, any riding that's off and on the throttle a lot. The Turbo has long legs and excells on longer pulls. They are two different animals each is the king in their own right.

Almost forgot-Tubo girl needs a thumper.
