Togwotee room charge

The only two things keeping this lodge open is awsome riding and no big competetion. Just look at the Big Horns. Competetion makes better service.
Alot of these complaints have been the same for the last few years.

Just made reservations for another trip to TML, seven years in a row now for our spring trip. Couldn't agree more with you guys, the last two years have continued to go downhill. On the trip home we discuss two things, how great the riding was and how poor the service is there. If they had any competition on the pass maybe things would change there. I'm not sure they get it, but many of us will put up with poor service in exchange for great riding. Hope this march is different!

Response

Hello FLYINGRMK,

Thanks for your feedback!

I sincerely appreciate you taking the time to respond.

Your ideas are great ones!

We've asked our F&B department managers to dine in the restaurant and bar at least once a week to shop their businesses.

I have on my desk right now a bi-weekly Assesment and Inspection for Food and Beverage regarding food quality, service, cleanliness, and teamwork. The department leaders are expected to suprise visit and inspect their departments bi-weekly.

The front desk manager and I met Saturday around service concerns at the front desk. He has created goals for the front desk pertaining to service that he'll be reporting on two weeks from now.

Each of our departments have been charged with having to set measurable goals around service and mechanics that they'll report on every two weeks.

Again, I really appreciate your candid feedback and will be sure to check back in from time to time to keep you informed of any changes and to make sure that we're making progress where needed.

Have a good day!

Same Problem

I was out there shortly after New Years and Had similar problems. It was Only my second trip out there but the only thing that got better was the snow!! Last year there was a few problems with the rooms being cleaned. This year that was a problem every day. The one day we came in and the room hadnt been cleaned, so we called AGAIN and we were at he cabin when they arrived to clean it. Two employees came to the door and knocked. I let them in and they walked in to see what needed to be cleaned and replaced and when the one guy seen that we had put the cards on the beds for new sheets he let out a big moan and turned to the other guy and said in a bummed out/pissed voice, "go get some sheets". I mean come on!! I was standing 2 feet from him when he actually said that. We then left to go to the bar. Got up there and ordered a round of drinks. When we were ready for another round, I turned to the bar and saw 3 or 4 people waiting to be served. Funny part was there was no bartenders...none in the entire bar. Guess they decided to go on break because it was 10 more minutes before one showed back up to serve and I dont know how long they were gone before I noticed.
The snow was unreal!! The lodging was..well...lets just say...NOT SO MUCH!! I hope to come out again in March and havent decided on where to stay. Have some friends going out shortly and am waiting to hear what they thought of there stay to decide on where I am staying. Hope things get better because TML is a very nice place. Just needs a little work to make it better. Hope this thread helps make a difference!

How long were your there? The reason I ask is because I was out there in 2005, and did not expect to have new sheets, matter of fact, we didn't have new sheets all week long. Do you guys change your sheets daily at home? Just curious.

Star7143,

I am glad you are taking the time to at least let everyone know you are working on this issue. We usually have a party of 10-14 people. We have not stayed at TML over night or rented the cabins. We usually come to the lodge for fuel, food and have a couple of drinks and head back south.

The issues being addressed on this forum have gotten worse every year. Our issues have ranged from Mechanic issues to bar tender issues. We get the impression if we are not staying at TML you would prefer we were not taking up your time. I would love to stay at TML, but refuse to take the chance of having a full week of bad service. Our group discussed TML and possibly staying there. We added our fuel, food, bar tab and we have spent from $500.00 to $750.00 per visit. We are taking 1 to 1 1/2 hours of your time. I also know we are not the only group that does the same thing.

I will try it one more time this year with the group due to you trying to make an effort. We are an easy group to please. Your food has never been an issue and almost every issue has been service and billing. No offense but this to me is an easy fix.

I truely believe a bar tender at TML who is efficent, smiles a lot with some social skills and keeps glasses full would make enough in tips to retire on. Haven't you every been to a bar or a place like Apple bees and got a excellent waiter or waitress. You eat basically un interupted and you really have to watch how much you drink because they are so nice you don't want to tell them "no" to another drink. When your group leaves you about have to sell a vehicle to pay for the tab.

See you in a couple of weeks and everyone on here is right. You are sitting on an absolute Gold mine and it is disheartening to see it go to waste.

We were there 4 nights. They ask you to put the provided cards on the beds if you would like new sheets. I have no problem with using the same sheets for a day or 2. But at 200 dollars a night. If I decide I want to have a fresh set of sheets, then it should happen with a smile on the employees face thats cleaning it. Not a big shrug. You kind of missed the point...
I like TML its a very nice place but a few things need to change. Its sad to see and hear that a place like that is lossing more and more business because of a couple of small things that have turned into eyesores.

Do what we did... Just dont go anymore.. there was 12 of us who used to spend around 4-5 long weekends up there a season.. last year.. after talking to different people about the problems.. and nothing ever getting done.. we just stopped going.. we have found other riding areas and haven't really looked back.. I love the togowette location and the riding there is fun... but if i'm going to spend that kind of money on a trip, lodging,food,booze... one would think SOME service would be in order..

I like the fact Star came on this thread and is trying to make things right.. it shows that they are trying.. however until more of the problems are solved.. dont know if I would be willing to guenie pig it...

10-4, thanks for the response.

I live about 45 minutes north of Madison. 84" this year so far, some settling, an ice storm or two, minor 2 day thaw about 2 weeks ago, I have about 16-17 inches in the back yard. Trails are awesome, get a little beat up on the weekend, but the groomers flatten them out again. Some corners are getting a bit wore down, need some fresh snow.:) I am heading to the U.P tomorrow until Sunday, riding in much deeper snow.:beer;:D

We have stayed at TML the past three years in early January each year. It did go downhill some last year, but seemed to rebound this year. My only complaint this year was the lower parking lot. Mostly because of the people that don't understand how to park their rigs. The back country riding was awesome. If you do decide to go there, stay on the package plan. Breakfast, dinner, happy hour, and most importantly, a guide is included. For those of you who go there and don't use a guide, you have no idea what you are missing! You'll be too worn out at the end of the day to worry about how many drinks the bartender didn't serve you. You can drink at home. Go there to ride. :)

obviously your stay there was handled better than ours 2 nites we had to call room services to get towels and tp to our cabins and also the beds were not made up by 5:30 pm. Hot tub was out of order one nite but when we went by the employee's were having a hot tub party. I am not even going to start on the rotten bar service, my major gripe is service, if I were to run my business like they do I would not have any custom business at all. I would have to say I had some of the best guides out there, my buddies that have been there for at least 7 years, I hardly seen a groomed trail and seen the best snow of my life so far.

Yami, did you give your free guide drinks every night !!!!!!
Why would you want the plan ?
Over priced.
Why go back to the lodge for dinner and waste 2 hours of riding.
Happy hour is no good if you cant get the bartender to serve you.
I think happy hour is like 4 or 5 in the afternoon.
Why get a guide when it's so easy to find untouched powder.

I gave my guide a parking lot cowboy ride of his life. He will remember that more than a drink (anyway i couldn't get a drink from the bar). Stupid god dam motor boat engine.

I have been going to Togwotee for nearly 10 years. The last 3 years I go twice a year (December and March). Each year we talk about the gold mine that this place could be if the Management Team could get their act together and lead the front line folks.

Having said that, I never leave there really upset saying to myself I'm going to start going elsewhere. I do take two trips to the Snowies each year as well, and there are issues there also, just different, but still issues. So, since were airing the issues, my reservation is never truly correct. I always have a room, but there is really poor communication between room reservations and guides or rentals. Our core group takes our own sleds out, but we always seem to have a newbie, and rentals are always screwed up. Guides, oh my, guides and reservations don't go together. Seems they meet on Mondays to decide who is guiding for who, so you cannot really reserve a guide, just request one. I understand the problem of scheduling. But, now I just communicate with my guide before I get there so that I am not overlooked.

The bartenders this year have attitudes, which I think starts with the bar manager. All the stories above are true. Being from Wisconsin where beer flows freely, bartender service is expected, since that is what we are accustomed to. We also tip pretty good for good service - hint, hint...... But I agree with "scmurs," we go there to ride, not drink. Don't get me wrong, we have a good buzz going each night, but we turn in early enough to be fresh for the next day.

Guides. Guides leave around 9:00 and return at 4:00. That schedule suits us fine, unless we get together with a group that wants to go to Brooks for lunch or something. That takes 2 hours of riding out. The rental shop set up our group of 10 in December and we signed up as experienced backcountry riders, which we are. We ended up with some first timers that were not even very good riders - what's up with that? We *****ed to our guide and the young'uns had the old "deer in the headlights" look numerous times the next day. Good for us, but they were definitely outside their comfort zone. I've ridden with them and been the guide for our group, and after all this time I still like going out with a guide.

Food. Marginal to average. Salad/soup bar is the best thing going, but man cannot live on salad alone. Steaks this year were OK, not great. Best part was the baked potato believe it or not. Otherwise, plan on $25-30/person, which for that price you would expect top notch service with impeccable services. Our waitress was great though, look forward to seeing her in March just to give each other more crap.

I just got to ask what do you pay a day for a guide? I agree with you as far as a place can't beat it, cabins nice, no problem check in or out, good klim supply shop if I need gloves or supplies and the gas station is friendly and good. We made all our own meals so I have no comment on food, and the most important part of the trip snow snow snow!!!!!! But they seem to be missing the most simple thing of all, good friendly service, the thing that if they had competition their business would really suffer.

That is another story. In the past, it has been $35/person/day, plus what you decide to tip your guide. I understand that guide service increased to $60/person/day. That's plenty steep per person. So, it is obvious that they are trying to get everyone on the "package" as opposed to the room only or cabin only rentals. I've always done one trip on the package and one trip cabin only each year. The cabin only does save you some money.

lookin4snow sounds like the price of the guide service is a raping. I got some advice line up your guys, pm Dakota Drifter he is always looking for a trip out there, I bet for a less money than that, you would see better country, better snow and I know the service would come with a smile and thank you. He will also buy the first round of drinks. Just something to think about.
P.S. I'm serious:face-icon-small-hap:face-icon-small-hap:face-icon-small-hap
