Time for a new helmet. What do you like?

I know this subject has come up before so I will apologize in advance.
My HJC is about 8-9 years old and it's time to update. I tried on the Polaris FLY carbon fiber kevlar helmet. It was good except for the foam on the cheeks had to much pressure. It was bothersome after 30 seconds or so. My kid has a FLY helmet he said the same thing and he hates his. I like a full face with goggles. What do you SnoWesters like? I can get dealer cost except for Polaris and Ski-Doo. Going to check out 509 this week. Any ideas are most welcome.

I like the lightest possible. Helps fatigue at the end of the day. For all the light helmets out there, you need to find the one that FITS you best. While I like the motorfist alpha helmet the best from a safety and overall outside diameter size standpoint, it just fit my head horrible. Super uncomfortable. Too round, when my head is more oval. Same issue with the Tobe Vertex I just bought. Too round. I'm currently using an Airoh Aviator 2.2 helmet. Same weight as the Motorfist, but impact protection isn't as good as the motorfist or Tobe. When you punch the helmet you can feel it centralized more instead of dispursing the energy through the whole helmet. It's a very comfortable helmet though. Not really a fan of the 509 carbon as it's noticeably heavier than the other 3 I just mentioned. With the tech out now, carbon helmets should be in the 950-1100g range max for a size large.

You'll probably like the 509 helmets, if you've been wearing an HJC. They fit the same. Motorfist helmets are definitely for round heads. They fit me terrible too. I have a 509 and love the fit.

Motorfist for me, 509 doesnt fit my head well. I loved my old Skidoo (scorpion) helmet as well. Best thing to do is find somewhere to try them on and go from there.

Another option may be different cheek pads for your fly helmet, many times there are different size pads available for helmets to help with your problem.

My problem is I'm square head Norwegian size 3X. Kinda look like Herman Munster. :face-icon-small-hap
But yeah I plan on trying on several makes. I can get Motorfist and 509 at dealer cost.

I switched from my trusty HJC a few years ago to the Fly F2 Carbon and I love it. I also require a large size (XXL) but it fits me great. Check out the 509 stuff, it's pretty sharp and the quality seems very good. I didn't like the Motorfist I tried on. But that was a few years back.

I just bought the 509 tactical stealth, cheapest in the line but fit really well. And bought the aviator goggles with rose tint, supposed to fit the helmet tight, and I've been wanting to try the rose tint.

A few years ago I was told not to get the aviator goggles but in all honesty I can't remember why and if it's true today. What is the best color for snowing over cast days? Mine have a yellow tint which works pretty good just not so good at night.

I like the 509 and KLIM Helmets as I'm another Motorfist one does not fit as well (which is too bad as its a nice lid). But any of the lightweight carbon fiber helmets that fit your head are so nice now it's had to go wrong.

As far as lens color. I only run 509 goggles (X5, Aviators, Revolver) now because the colors works well for my eyes and since I run their helmets the goggles fit the opening well. I always carry 3 goggles on my riding. A yellow tint, the fire mirrored clear tint (its like a light red tint) and then a pair of clear lens for at night. Those 3 colors will get me through every light condition no matter the weather. On bright sunny days I will wear some other colors as those days it does not matter to me as they all work (Smoke Polarized, Blue, Green). But the lens color seems so personal as I have had friends try mine and hate the color and I would say the same about theirs.

Depending on where in Northern MN you are I'd be happy to catch up some time and let you try out some different colors. I think I have most of the 509 lenses now.

I like the fit of a 509 but I went with Klim I prefer their venting

i liked my first 509 , but then picked up a 509 carbon fiber and found that i was between sizes and didn't feel quit right on my head, went back to shoei last year(my second one) and love the fit and weight .

Running a Klim F4 right now. Love the venting option for warmer days. Lightweight. Also has 2 different size cheek pads and a good breath deflector. Plus it has a high safety rating.

I got a Motorfist Alpha direct from Motorfist a few weeks back for $299, that's a pretty good deal for such a light helmet. Must be getting rid of non-arcticwear branded stuff or something. Some pretty good deals to be had.

I LOVED my F4, I just bought Klim's new F3 and the improvements are fantastic! Love the way it fits and how my goggles fit my face better now. The Klim helmets are amazing! Can't wait to try it in the snow!

509 quality imo has gone down the tubes, I have a VERY oval head and the fly f2 is the most comfortable on the market for my head, not to mention you can find last year's models for around $175 usually. I'm a huge klim nut with a closet full of their stuff but fly is my helmet of choice...

Brand is AFX, model is FX-17. It's the model of 509's helmets from a couple years ago. i think they just got the raw helmets and did the graphics, oh yeah they marked the price up by 150%. I bought one a couple years ago on amazon for $58. they are just as nice as 509 helmets.

I have a 509 as well and like it, had 2 hjc's before. I'm not sure about other brands but my 509 has lifetime free replacement of visor . I've broken one send them a picture to prove it's broken and they send you a new one free. I have had my 509 four years now and still happy with it

For the last several years my whole family has been wearing the KLIM F4 helmets and loving them. But this year I am switching over to the newer better-fitting lighter F3. The difference is STRIKING in fit and weight!
