Timbersled or CMX

So Radski30....what will it be? The kit who has one very dissatisfied non-snowbiker among the manic grinning thousands, or the promising companies yet proven? Scrap it..go for the 2moto!!

Ha...I've got a 2moto for sale if you need one. I decided to go with the 2016 Hillbilly Train Wreck this year.

P.S. The 2moto was a blast...when not trenched!

First, I never said they were not fun to ride and did not give the rider pleasure.

Heck, so is an ugly fat chick, at least until your true friends find out and start giving you their honest opinion of your choice, then you start to see things in a different light.

I'm sure they are a blast when they are working correctly. That said, Briggs and Stratton mini bikes use soft keyed shafts. All production motorcycles use Heat treated splined shafts, because the load that is put on them demands it.

Buy what you want, ride what you want.

Yes, I am opinionated and I freely share that opinion. You "the reader" can choose to agree or disagree with that opinion / observation / recollection.

The average Joe consumer has the right to know what he is buying; the good and the bad, It's strengths and it's inherent weaknesses. Is that not the premise of this forum and the internet in general? To share information.

For the record; I'm not sour about snow bikes, and I try not to take anything personally, I gave up caring what others thought of me and my views decades ago.

Back to the OP question

From Timbersled's (old) website:

Timbersled said:
We’re utilizing a new x-ring nickel plated chain, and new custom lightweight drilled and splined sprockets manufactured by JT sprockets to Timbersleds’ specs. The system is completed with the new Timbersled machined splined shafts.

Looks like they are using splined shafts this year.

So. Whats the splined shaft update worth ? U TS guys crack me up ! Explain to me why TS has double row bearings and splined shafts now ? No problems because its not on a forum in mass quantity ?

This thread was started to compare two kits TS and CMX. I think people were talking about issues they had with either kit. If you seriously think there are no issues with TS you are either ignorant or dont understand basic engineering imo. They may not be deal breaker issues for some but for others they are problems with band aid fixes. Its pretty easy to see where TS has stuck with a simple and out dated design imo. For example take a look at the TS belt tensioner. Its simple and it somewhat works with its cheesy plastic gear. For some depending on bike, the chain runs kinda deep into the track. The track has been made with a notch in it to allow for more clearance. Now to me thats a bandaid fix ?

Does the kit work ? Absolutely. Is it perfect. Absolutely not. Your perception may be it has zero issues. For myself and others that i ride with on TS kits it has its own quirks and issues that u either love or hate. Pretty simple

I am excited to see cat jump in the game. I built my first snow bike this year and it is for the birds. Give me the turn key factory eddition with warrenty please. Plus with the big guys backing them u know things will work. Don't get me wrong I am excited to try my creation but I don't like dealing with bike dealerships that don't know jack about snow and could give a care less

Timbersled using only dealers now, is a big part of the reason I went with a deferent brand.

I just don't like the idea of a dealer getting a cut of the sale for basically being no more than a shipping address. Plus I would have had to drive hundreds of miles to pick up something that should have been dropped on my door step.

I get the theory behind your comment for sure, not knocking it, but would you say the same about buying a sled? Would you think you should be able to call polaris and order one up?

As they get bigger, their focus needs to be as a MFG, not as a customer service agent/ shipper/ parts guy... etc. I understand the reason, but hard to blame them for focusing on BUILDING a better product and avoiding the rest of the BS.

I have rode a custom setup TS kit with forward side plates which moved the skid 3" forward and it worked really well and was light on the ski but it almost transfered too much. Crazy to think I know! But it makes hop overs / wheelie turns REALLY easy.[/QUOTE]

I have a non linkage bike. 2013 FE501 2015 TS. How can I get my hands on these custom forward side plates?

Sleds are deferent, as they have some stuff that even a handy rider couldn't fix.

Mountain Horse kit is an after market accessory to me, like handle bars, etc. etc.

If the big boy dealers like Dennis Kirk etc., had them at a great price I'd be on board!

I have respect for dealers that can actually fix what they sell, and don't mind throwing them a bone on some hard goods I could get cheaper somewhere else.

However the reality is that far to many dealers suck, don't stock any parts, and are trying to earn too much money without doing any work.

Double edge sword , wonder if you can purchase one threw Costco ?

So now that the dealerships will be carrying the product whom do you call or want to call if there is a warranty issue ?

Allen has always been good about taking care of his peeps , depends now on what the contract allows .

Sounds like you need a better dealer. My cell is on 24 hours a day, and I'll answer it when a customer calls. Been riding these things since day one and know them inside and out.

Couldn't we just cut off the linkage mounts? Yes it would be snow only, but makes me think the cmx would be a decent option with my cr500 steel frame, as a snow only bike, if I had known about it before I built the afc. With new forks, and even with the geometry you would outperform others just by having the track further forward.
