Three dead in Turnagain Pass avalanche

YEah just got off the phone with Chad, i heard about your buddy, sounded like a pretty big slab came down on him, luckily he is alright. Was thinkin about goin to Placer, but change of plans now, since the last 2 shoots up into Placer will probably slide, wouldn't recommend anyone tryin it this weekend.

RIP Jeremy you will be missed buddy. I didn't know Christoph personaly but our sport lost some great people this weekend. My condolences to all family and friends.

me & a buddy were playing in the flatlands until about 5 when it happened. decided to go up and over just for ****s and giggles.. talked with dan when we got to the top and heard the terrible news.

i honestly didn't know what to think when i saw where the slide was.. been up that chute hundreds of times.. should be a lesson for everyone to be EXTRA careful and ALWAYS bring a beacon and a buddy.

My prayers are there for the families and friends. RIP boys.

That was BS! They were near the bottom of the hill hitting a very common wind lip. One of the guys sled sound broke it loose. Two of them seen it break loose and headed down, the rest got caught up in it. Tommy got out quickly and immediately started digging out others.

Just as an FYI, sled noise will not set off an avy. Most likely it just naturally let loose. According to the Glacier Ranger District website there's a weak layer about 26" down. Horrible tragedy. I can't imagine having to dig a friend out.

One of the bodies is now being recovered as i type this

the weather has cleared, and rescue teams are now in the process of getting the bodies out.

my buddy said that when they left the day of the avalanche they left a 10 ft probe stuck next to jeromy, and christof was laying by the 2 sleds a little ways away...today when they got there alll that was showing was 6 inches of the probe...they never found christof or the sleds ...:(

I thought I heard that they got Jeremy out today. So what happened to Christoph and the sleds did they get more snow or what? :(

I talked to Christophs sisters best friend and she said that they wernt going to try and get the helicopter in there until Saturday.

that sucks i heard they were gettin jeremy but didn't no they could find Christoph, well i am goin riding tomorrow, maybe i'll see if they need another hand. anyone else goin give me a call 252-9562

Pretty F*ckin sad! If you want some closure you have to physically drive up ther and dig your friend out of the snow and haul his body down. What the troopers cant do it, this has been an experience for me. I would not ever rely on the AST to help me out in any situation on a mountain after seeing there acions on this ordeal. They all came screamin into the parking lot on friday and none of them had a sled, knew the area, or had any appearant plan. It was a circus. I was embarassed to say the least.

the weather didn't clear totally but, it did let up some, and friends went in there on there own to get Jeremy out as im just now finding out...... and they do not know where Christoph is...:(

Kudos to the people that went in there to get the bodies!!!

One of the friends was on KWHL this morning. They got Jeremys body yesterday, and know where Christoffs is. They have to wait because Christoffs is on a slope with a cornice above it. He said that they were working with the troops to blast the cornice to improve the saftey of the conditions so they can retrieve Christoff. Hats off to those guys, they are stand up in their efforts. We should all support their efforts to bring their friend home.
