Wow....what a kicked in the gut feeling. I am very to sorry for those who passed today. Obviously this is going to be really hard on their family, friends and co-workers etc. It is hard to even find words to say...
When I moved up here in 1999 I spent a week up there looking for my friend who passed at Turny in the big slide. He just retired from the military and was riding with other guys in our shop...
Our prayers are with them and their families... Rest in peace brothers:rose:

news said it was a cornace drop they were hitting sounds like there was six of them in the group 3 got buried, but they got one out before he sufficated. Still had two riders and friends lost today.

That was BS! They were near the bottom of the hill hitting a very common wind lip. One of the guys sled sound broke it loose. Two of them seen it break loose and headed down, the rest got caught up in it. Tommy got out quickly and immediately started digging out others.

TURNAGAIN PASS, Alaska -- Two men are dead after an avalanche Friday afternoon near Mile 69 of the Seward Highway.

Alaska State Troopers said a group of six people had been snowmachining on the backside of Turnagain Pass Mountain when the snow gave way.

It is a very popular area with snowmachiners and skiers, but the signs in the area say it all, the avalanche danger remains high.

The parking lot at Mile 69 of the Seward Highway became a staging area for emergency personnel like Trooper Lt. Barry Wilson.

"They were jumping off some snow cornices at the top of the mountain and they broke free," Wilson said.

Wilson said six snowmachiners were caught in the 200-300 foot avalanche on the backside of Turnagain Pass Mountain. Two of them, 25-year-old Christoph Vonalvensleben and 27-year-old Jeremy Stark, both of Anchorage, did not survive.

"Helo 1 transported out to locate the bodies and checked for signs of life, and now it's a matter of body recovery for those individuals," Wilson said.

Thats where i read the cornice info.. either way its over, best wishes to the families

Rip

My prayers go out to the families and friends of those lost.

I rode placer yesterday and met up with some friends at the glacier cave. We rode back to skookum. A buddy went to climb up, made it about 30%... when it gave loose. It buried him all the way to his helmet... lucky. he had proper gear on, but scary nonetheless. His sled was buried about seven feet down. Be careful out there.
