Three snowmachiners have been killed in an avalanche that occurred late this afternoon on the backside of Turnagain Pass Mountain in the Turnagain Pass area.

Alaska State Troopers, the Helo 1 rescue helicopter and volunteer rescue crews responded.

The three people were buried for about 45 minutes. Troopers say all attempts to resuscitate them were unsuccessful.

This is a breaking story, check back to KTUU.com for more developments and watch the Channel 2 News Late Edition for a full report.

Best wishes to the family members of the fellow snowmachiners that have past..

Ryan Manzek

RIP.

Be very careful out there guys, we don't need anymore lives lost and families hurt.

Sounds like it might have been some of the turnagain hardcore guys. waiting for name right now.. dunno if i can release them yet.. i'll keep you posted...

Thanks chad, didn't no if i should say any names yet. well best regards to the family members of Tommy Frankson, Kristoff Van Alvensleben, and Jerome Stark. I didn't personally no Jerome, but I have rode with Tommy, and Kristoff and they were very experienced and good riders.

Prayers and best wishes to the families. It is terrible. I hate to say it though,I am suprised that it hadn't happened yet this year. With all the rain and wet snow and wind this week, I sure hope this is a wake up to those going riding this weekend. RIP
Tim

Even with the fresh snow guys its not worth the risk, riding the front side might be alright, but i wouldn't drop if the back side for a few days. Everything is very unstable, and like the news said high avalanche warnings. Watch the slopes you guys ride on and be safe if you ride. We don't need another tradegy again this year. Well best wishes to riders this weekend, and the ones that have passed.

RIP for the victims, My condolences to those who know them,

3 perishing in a slide makes you realize how important it is to take an avalanche awareness course...

This is a trajedy.
