Thoughts on Aftermarket Throttle Blocks?

Ascender and catalyst have them. Cat doesn’t need a bypass, you can just unplug it. Im in the habit of flipping the throttle before I start it due to probably unwarranted paranoia about “deleting a safety device” lol

Edit: i say catalyst doesn’t need a bypass. Guess I will see if thats still the case when I try and start my sled next. Maybe I shoulda read the instructions :ROFLMAO:
I have the bypass on my matryx and I am always in the habit of checking my throttle or blipping the throttle to clear any snow before starting it also.

i had an aluminum throttle block on my 9R, the stock throttle block was pretty bad. Last year there was a day i had ridden the day before, so my sled was still covered in ice and snow, i let my sled warm up in my trailer and pulled it out when temp was over 100 like i always do and then shut it off while everyone got ready, that ended up taking probably 20-30 minutes, and it was a 0 degree F day. I got on my sled to just turn it around and let it warm back up, so didnt put the tether on, well in that amount of time something thawed then froze, is the only thing i can think of, because when i blipped the throttle it stuck, the sled hit my trailer, threw me off, and went about 100 yards into some brush, ended up WOT upside down. this was an aluminum block WITH TSS. i dont know exactly what happened, but it broke the bulkhead and insurance totaled the sled.

Scary stuff!

I know it would cost more $ but I have always thought that going to fly by wire would be nice on sleds. Could build a lot of safety and other features into a set up with fly by wire instead of a throttle cable

wasnt fun, just glad i wasnt hurt, and honestly turned out all right with insurance and how much sled values have dropped.

Kinda sounds like he was not wearing his tether, the way he says " i didnt think to reach for my tether" . might have saved sled if he bailed while wearing the tether instead of trying to hold the brake while barely holding on or not . Luckily nobody was hurt and could ride another day. But cardinal rule, always wear the tether cause s@#t happens and it happens fast especially with boost.

Issue is he rode it out, not that he wasn't wearing the tether. Having been in a similar situation a couple years ago, its hard for your first instinct to be to bail; human nature is to resolve the issue. Since then I have tried to instill in myself that my reaction will be to bail or pull cord versus try brake or hammer kill switch.
