This economy and snowmobiling

How many are going to be out of the sport by next season if this economy continues on its downward trend? ........ here! :( And with Obama at the helm I think thats what is going to happen unfortunately.

economy, ha

dont matter to me sleds paid for, damn sure dont need a new sled every year. build one mod it to your specs. ride it, if it wont last more than a year pick a builder that knows what the hell he's doing.

I hear that! Still riding the 2004. The new sleds are nice and all but are they really 6000-8000 dollars better then my 04 king? I have a hard time thinking that they are. The price tag on the 2010 cat HCR 800 was $11,000 - $14,000

It hasn't stopped me "yet".
But I do find myself not going as much as I would like, and working some saturdays to stay ahead.
If overtime goes away, sledding will be cut back.
I'm just glad I will get my taxes back rather than an IOU!

It's was harder (mentally) last year with gas over $4.00 a gallon then it is this year even though I feel guilty sometimes having fun when I know others are struggeling.

Now if the economy is still the sheets next year AND gas is back up...that will be a kicker but I will ride....always.

Its getting pretty bad, for those who are in the market you sure can find some good deals on newer sleds, good for some bad for others I guess.

I will ride as long as I can afford it. Too early to predict what next season will bring. Keep positive and keep riding...we gots to stimulate that economy.

It will be a sad day should the day come I hang up sledding... I'll trim back on a lot of other leisure things before I cut one cent from sledding. It is my priority...but I'm still young

I work in the "Oil and Gas" market....so we wont see any change in my lifetime, sure feel bad for those who are on hard times:(

Hard to say.....

I can give up a lot of things, but I don't think I can ever give up sledding! (knock on wood) I have downsized tremendously from my single days with money to burn, but I still keep a horse in the stable to ride!

It's therapy for me- forget the shrink - I just need a day on the mtn here and there and I'm goooood!

Now if push came to shove and it meant feeding my wife/kids or keeping a roof over their heads - all bets are off at that point!

A lot of good comments here. I too will still snowmobile until I am forced to let it go. However, being in the rental business we are definitely feeling the pinch. We are down 30% and having to offer huge discounts to get the sleds rented out. That makes it tougher to make new purchases. Because of the current economic conditions we will be running the same sleds next winter rather than buying new. At least I still have a strong, sweet sled to ride.:D

Yeah Adam, I received an email showing the Bear River Lodge specials. Buy one night get the next free. That's a desperation move to rent that I've never seen up there before. Bad, Sad Times right now.:(

Employed equals riding

Even though I pay monthly for the sleds they’re still cheaper then therapy. :)

Yeah, but sleds and cabins don't make money if they're not being used. I'd rather send them out at half price than not at all. Most of the winter we have been offering rent one get one half off. March typically slows quite a bit, so we are hoping this helps out.

I am addicted, I said I would never part with my sled...

but it is for sale, :( my family comes first. gotta keep the house

I think most of the guys I ride with own their sleds, but fuel for the truck, goat, (hope your on pump gas) and grub I dont think you can go for under $75.00? What kind of trailer are you depreciating every time you use it? Have you ever tried to sell a mod sled, Id rather try to sell ice to a eskimo. Then the time factor i self employed every hour sledding is time I could be earning, this economy SUCKS! and has definitely cut into my sled time.

I wonder how many understood my question. If you look at how bad the economy is tanking, if it were to continue falling for another year at this rate, will you be sledding. I think we will be worried about keeping the house and paying the power bill. The "inconvenient truth" is that it will probably gain speed on its way down in the next year. buckle up people....
