If gets half the stuff done that he said he will do, he'll be awesome. Not letting kids drop out and college paid for for civil service volunteers, healthcare reform etc. But he needs to get it done before the 2010 elections while he has the support. I did like the fact that he did mention govt was also to blame for the current crisis. Sounds like socialism but better than fascism or communism.

I agree, I'll gladly take socialism before I'd take communism or fascism. But that doesn't mean I want socialism.

I think we need to sit back and watch with arms crossed (and guns loaded) these next few years, ready to say "I told you so"

the gov will pay for college
HOW??
raise taxes
the gov will increase taxes on those with income above 250000, well i work for a small business(10 employees) so my boss is getting his taxes raised. wont be any raises for me
the big companies pay higher taxes so they raise their prices to offset the difference so......the consumer pays for the tax increase

Tonight's speach was straight off the campaign trail. Say one thing, do another. Don't beleive a thing you've heard, and if he pulls off his promises we are doomed with a debt that can't be recovered from, ever.

Maybe the money saved from having all the volunteers providing services that the government doesn't need to hire full time staff for will cover schooling costs. Kind of makes some sense if you think about it....

Did you notice how his speech addresses the problems that were brought up about the stimulus package, that being the debt to future generations and the money being spent to line corperates pockets more.

And from my own point of view, how is any of this going to help those like me that have lost their house already, run out of unemployment, and cannot find a job? Seems that segment is left out of the equasion. They will help reduce loan interest, extend unemployment compensation, reduce taxes for the working, but no help for the millions that are already on the street.

Not bit(hing mind you, just seems like he forgot someone.

Jesus didn't imprison and gas millions of jews in a "final solution", or murder and rape his way through Europe. Seems we've had this conversation before.

Neither did Obama.... catch the point yet? And we did, but it was so much fun the first time, might as well go for another....

you say that like you actually believe he will take people off the government payroll. if that happens we will need ANOTHER stimulus bill to help them:confused:

It's not a bad idea at all as long as people are not rewarded for doing nothing. If they are working, filling spots that the government would otherwise need to hire for(as Ruffy said) then I have no problem with the gov't aiding in college tuition. It's just a different way of getting a wage.

Hitler was one of history's most charismatic and confident speakers BTW. Listen to some of his speaches and it's no surprise why people believed in him. It was all smoke and mirrors until he got into power.

what i got from it was...
