Been waiting on NRCS to mark terraces. And dozer to show up. It's there and kicking ***. Think he pushed 2500 ft yesterday!

Planting was a bust. Only stuck 15 acres in. Too wet. Planter didn't want to work either. But got moved and one little crappy field done.

Bean planter coming out of shed in morning.

saw a coyote on open field today about 80 yards from noisy tractor. he was just jogging cross the field. I wanted to run him over but my tractor can go fast as it can go.. 4-5 mph with tillage in ground. maybe next time I go out on the field, I ll bring my 30-06 rifle with me.

Saw you running, thought it looked wet.

Hard day at the office. The guys are sitting out front shooting birds that keep building nests above our doors.

anyone own a truck with grain trailer? Im thinking about getting a CDL and get my own rig to haul my dad's and my grain.

You guys whack off alot :rain: I remember when farmers planted crops in may ?

yep all the time. we always planting in late april. sometime finished in early june as long as we dont get much rain and shut us down.

I remember last year when my cousin planted the corn in middle of june! he got very lucky that his corn surived the drought, grew up short to hip and got good ears. very lucky.

We actually have 2. Cheap storage on wheels. Actually blew up a engine during harvest and was cheaper to buy another truck. We (dad and me) overhauled engine ourselves the next summer for 1/2 of what freight liner wanted. Bought another grain trailer to just "try" when we had 200 bu corn. With just 2 guys it works out great.

We farm 1800 acres. So not huge and dont need 2 trucks. But don't need to hire a driver yet.

If your only hauling your own grain get farm tags. Then you don't "need" a CDL. I have one because I had one from working at the Co-op.

Trucks are cheap but don't skimp on your trailer.

I thought on cheap trucks with short trailer (30 foot) will work. maybe use it couple of time in harvest and most of time taking grain out of bin and drive to the elevator at any day.

Go with a day cab and a 40+ foot trailer. You have to be so long to haul 80000#. I've never heard anyone wishing they bought a smaller trailer.

Also remember you need to have current DOT inspections on both the truck and trailer. Even with farm tags.

Sleeper trucks ride better but that is weight you are loosing in grain capacity. We have one with a seeper and one day cab. The day cab can haul more legally. Even more if I put the light trailer behind it!

All things to consider.

Found enough mushrooms yesterday for a small meal. Headed to the mo river after lunch to find a big haul hopefully.
