The Get your FIX for the RMK 800

Thread Rating

I just wanted to send out an update on the forum here about my last ride with the fix the PMS installed on my sled about 1 month ago now.

Today I went for a ride here in MN with a bunch of other D8 rmks and several of them had PCV's, pipes, cans, and 1 had a slp head.

I can say after my sled smoked everyone else, we all switched riders so they could try put my sled with the fix and they were all surprised about how well it runs and how much more the powerband sounds.

I can honestly say I have not been this happy with my sled except for the first day that I picked it up when I bought it. Thanks MTNTK & PMSPOLARIS.

Next week I will be on the dyno at Bikeman Performance and we will see what it does on the dyno and then I will reinstall my PCV with Jims tune from Dyno Tech Research and then the Bikeman Pipe and I will post the dyno results.

Were at in Mn are you at?

TopNotch, I am located on the north end of Minneapolis, If you know where Blaine is I am another 15 minutes North on the edge of Ham Lake & East Bethel. Are you from MN and if so where are you located at?

got my kit yesterday, and talked to shawn what a great guy gave me so much info about putting my sled back together,I also found a new 08 head witch i will be putting on,going to get the compression back also,i cant waite.thanks PMS

I'm confused about what has to happen with the cylinders before installing the kit. Do they have to be honed and/or replated to fit the new piston size or can you install the kit directly. Do I need to take it to a local machine shop for honing or is this something I can do myself with the right tool?

Thanks all,

-B

It is likely that they recommend the cylinders to be honed. If you can still see the old cross hatch I probably wouldn't bother unless you have some visible scoring of the cylinders. Other than that, the pistons should drop right in.

exactly right. they want yo to hone because in the service manual it says to hone your cylinder EVERYTIME the cylinder comes off. they will drop right in. you hone it ur self but my dealer was able to do mine for 18 bucks and to get the right tools was close to 300. i figured this isnt something i'm goin to be doin all the time so i just had the dealer do it.

If you order a cylinder from Millenium (reman), they can match the size for you before shipping. Take note that we had some EV clearance issues with our reman cylinder though, almost like they never cleaned the journal at all..

Not Recomended YOU SHOULD & NEED TO DO IT! IT IS MANDATORY

The cylinder does in fact need to be honed to break the glaze if you are reusing your old cylinder. The bore normally does not need to be larger, though we require that you check the piston clearance that it is not less than .004" piston to cylinder clearance. If you are using a new cylinder or newly replated cylinder honing has already been done and does not need to be done again. If you have the right style of hone it can be done yourself, but I have yet to see someone that has the proper equipment at home. It has to be a ridgid hone, NOT A FLEX HONE, BALL HONE, BRISTLE HONE, BRAKE HONE, or anything else like those. Ridgid hone with the proper stones for NiCaSil. Your dealer may have the right equipment since Polaris had so many dealers doing the "Polaris Durability Kit" and they honed the cylinder. If your dealer doesn't have it then a reputable machine shop will be able to accommodate you.

I think i may have lost my top end last weekend, wondering if i was to do the "fix", how will it work with a turbo, i'm planning on turboing this summer, wanted to get some miles on it this year before doing so, also i'm currently running a pc5 with 010 head and jan. flash. Will i still need to run the pc5, thanks.

Thanks for all the great info.

I have a 2009 RMK 800 which I purchased in Oct of 2008. I had the recall update done in Nov of 2009. I have whatever flash my dealer put on at that time. I understand there were at least two flashes released since my sled was updated.

My question is which flash should I have the the dealer load before I install the kit? I ride at elevations between 8000 and 11000 ft.

Thanks again!

Unfortunately your question cannot easily be answered. It seems what works for one does not work the same for all. At 3 to 6k' I run the same flash as you usring a PC5 with the SLP map and no-ethnol gas (wires plugged in) and it runs great. Oh, it's a stock sled with the 2010 updates and I've never had any issues with it, even before the PC5

The latest april 2010 is the best reflash

What do you think of this flash with a PCV from dynotech with the kit? I sure wish you guys could get a sled to dynotech and have him test it. I think alot of us trust his unbias testing and would love a proven map from Jim that matches this kit. It seem like you guys might of solved the piston slap issue. But I still think that the D8 have a lean fuel issue that a PCV addresses.

I was told by my dealer here in Colorado that the latest flashes (January and April) should only be put on sleds being ridden in low altitude. Is that true? I ride at elevations between 8,000 and 12,000 ft.

Thanks all!

Have your dealer look it up again or call polaris!

Have your dealer look it up again or call Polaris, Polaris at first said to only run under 3k feet but they rereleased it for mountain riding, You want the April 2010 flash!

Nobody......tore it down last night, head, exhaust side cylinder and two pistons=done. I need to get it fixed, so the fix or back to oem with the intentions of a turbo in the summer.

"THE FIX" HAS BEEN BEEN DYNOED

MTNTK Dyno & Performance is the full name of the company that builds the "THE FIX" along with the BIG BOOST TURBO and many other Products to come.
As far as the PCV goes I think there were a few guys taking there kits over to dynotech. Maybe just a few talking about it.
