The dreaded cut-out

cut-out

three of us this weekend on 2011s, one cutting out all day really bad , other two of us cutting out on and off all day, if this does not get addressed by polaris and fixed this season this sled is gone!!

That's the problem, it seems like a common problem.... but not a common fix. My dealer said they'd never seen the problem yet. WTF? I have a couple big trips lined up for the upcoming weeks, along with weekend riding. I can't believe there isn't a Tech service bulletin or something. Frustrating.

Just called and the Mechanic said it is now in severe detonation and won't even run unless he resets the computer... WOW!

cutting out

A couple of friends have the new pro's. They were both cutting out and bogging at times. They have both been back to the dealer but they could not fix it. Then one friend decided to disconnect the wiring harness for the throttle safety switch and the kill switch. Problem solved. It did not miss a beat all weekend. He still has to take it back to the dealer to tell him what he found. Just an idea to try.

not sure why this worked for your friends but i unhooked the same and motor went into limp mode and would not rev up. also engine light came on.

UPDATE***
Back from the dealer, with the machine "Fixed." He replaced injectors first, and didn't seem to change, so he added clutch weight. Now, with 10-62's it has yet to bog. The reason I was skeptical about this all along was because it never showed over 8350 on the hill. Now with 10-62's I cant get it to rev to over 8000 in deep flat snow, and not over 8100 hammering it and spinning the track on my driveway. I've heard of guys running them up to 84-8500 on the trail without hitting the limiter.... maybe my tach is off? I'm going to run it tomorrow on the hill and see how it does. By all sage brush testing so far it seems fixed... It didn't bog for the first 100 miles with the new clutch springs in it, so my thought is they might have broken in after a couple rides and are now soft enough for the sled to hit the rev limiter with the 10-60's. Anyone have any experience with the tach showing less RPM than actual?

Yes had the same thing happen to me. RPM did not seem to be going above 8350 but had bog. One time I did see 8500 frozen on MFD added clutch weight mid bog gone. Also had a burble at slow speed and a top end bog on long pulls which was fixed by changed by replacing injectors.

I took it out and rode it today, and it is fixed. Ran flawlessly all day. The only problem is, it can't pull 62 gram weights at 9-10k. I think I am going to go back to the stock Poo springs and 60 grams weights. Never his the rev limiter with this combo. Either that or I find 61 gram weights...

if you find that you need 61 gram weights you can grind the 62's down on a sander. belt sander works well. you need a gram scale that goes to at least tenths of a gram. just grind on the sides of each weight so not to change the profile of the weight itself. fyi, i bought "66" gram weights from my local dealer and it wouldn't pull it. stuck in on my gram scale and all three of them were at 66.9 or 67.0. ground them down to 65.8 and it made all the difference in the world. moral of the story, just b/c polaris says they are a specific weight doesn't mean it is very accurate. at least they all match compared to in the past all of them being slightly different. not good for clutch or crank. good luck

Yeah, I thought of that at first too, but filled up at the same place and same time as all of my buddies, and picked a different station next time...

at elev. 9-11,000 ft..

First i ran 60 Grams.. it was ok.. but sluggish in the mid range..

then dropped to the BB 58's.. MINT

Ran great pulled Hard!

100 Miles on the odometer and she cut out once for about 2 seconds at WOT on tuesday, it was on a committed sidehill climb above trees. Not a real confidence builder. Had to spin around downhill and whip into an immediate sidehill back the way I came to clear the trees. 2 years ago it may of ended up in an insurance claim :(

BigBull you might be hit the rev limit (8500) mine did than and all but one time the tach should a max of 8350> 1 time it bogged and tach was flashing 8500. Adding weight to clutch stopped the bog. It could also be a bad injector as they will cause bog on a very long WOT run.

Woodsrider is right on with this one. Make them warranty the injectors and add a gram. Mine is at the dealer as we speak. I suggested we go back to stock springs and 60 weights, but Gary says he has a couple tricks up his sleeve to give me a little better backshift. Right now it will only pull 7650 on a good climb... we'll see what he has in mind.

I didnt check the High on the RPM after the run. I will definitely do that if it does it again. I like to clear it each time I take a break anyway. I have been seeing like 8150 most of the time.

I just got my sled home and banged it through the sage brush quick. At 7,300 feet with 60 gram weights, SLP blue/pink primary spring and stock secondary spring I'm pulling 8150 in grabby snow. I think I might have the perfect combo now. Trial and error so far:
Stock primary and secondary @60g- 78-8000 climbing
SLP Blue/Pink Primary and Team Black/Purple Secondary-8-8350 climbing
SLP Blue Pink Primary and Stock Secondary-We'll see tomorrow, but hopefully I can hang around 8k on a climb. No rev limiter, and enough lee-way when I ride 8-11k feet.

Just got my pro back from the dealer and they adjusted the slop out of the throttle cable and recalibrated the tps and the bog went away. The deadman switch in the throttle lever doesn't like much free play. It cured my bog

Just to correct my last post. I double checked with my buddies what they had done to their sleds to correct the cutting out and bogging problem on their pros. They disconnected the the kill switch wires, not the throttle safety switch wires. That seemed to clear up the problem. They since had a problem with it not starting or the dash display cutting out. They both have been back to the dealer which replaced the kill switch/throttle switch assy. and the ignition switch. They have not missed a beat since. Sounds like some poor quality electrical components again.
