After reading the tragic story, I fully intended on wearing mine.
Just got back from a trip & never used it once.
It's like a seat belt...a good idea but many of us are a little thick headed.
To be honest, I don't see myself using mine unless I upgrade to the teth-air wireless.

Just do it, it only takes a second. I made the commitment to install and wear mine after hearing about that guy. My hands, my feet, or any other body part is worth a few seconds of inconvienence during the day to put it on.

unless you're racing its useless i can think of so many riders i have seen where they get in the way and end up crashing or loosing their carve.

Uhmmm, thanks, always nice to get a counter opion to keep things in perspective.

I would submit that if you've seen it get in the way that much, someone needs to workout thier mounting location better.

After two years of riding with one I have to say the only time it was a pain is when my dumb butt forgot to disconnect it when I jumped off the sled for some reason.

Now, it has become such a habit that I don't even think about hooking, unhooking it, it just happens. And as Scott mentioned, a cheap carabiner makes it simple, quick and dependable.

I think they are a great idea and sure like knowing my sled (and my Wife's sled) will shutdown upon an unscheduled dismount and I won't have a stuck throttled sled land on me, or her.

I put one on my sled about a month ago, I haven't had an unintentional kill while riding yet, and probably saved lots of parts the last time I decided to let the sled fend for itself on a steep, hard decline where I couldn't do anything to keep the sled from speeding up.

In over 10 years, I can only think of one time that mine has been disconnected by the trees. Maybe twice, but I was in such tight trees that I was not going fast.

I can think of several times that it has saved me a lot of money. Stuck throttle and I am supermaning on the sled and if I had not pulled it, the sled would have hit some big trees quite hard and it would have cost alot to fix.

Last year, my kitty used up a life when I attempted to drop down onto a little ledge while in a sidehill in Cooke, left ski came down and she took a hard left. Usually I argue with myself, you should bail........., but this time is was get the F off now. I landed 3 ft from the edge of the cornice with my feet almost sticking through and the sled dove 25 feet off the cornice nailing the open hole in the creek along with the huge boulders. If it was not for the tether, she would have kept sucking in water until someone hit the kill switch. Needless to say, I broke the muff pot bracket, added 2 one inch cracks to the hood, and sucked a little water in that we were able to drain there. I rode it out with three of four plugs working and was able to climb everything I needed to. I was lucky with the sled and with my life. If I had gone with it, there is a good chance I would have been killed or severely injured. I have also received a concusion in that same creek bed. I think I should ride other places in Cooke besides there.

Sad story above.

Been wearing one for a few years now - ever since I about lost my sled off of a cliff basically. A couple of weeks ago I thought my buddies sled was going to blow up as it was stuck upside down running wide open (EFI you know) and it took him a while to get to the kill switch.

Since I Ride Doo, I've been used to hooking a tether up and feel naked if I jump on a sled that doesn't have one. Feels better knowing if your expensive sled will die if you fall off or just keep spinning. My .02
