The key is not just having one, but using it. I was on Ski Doo for 6 years and all of those sleds had them....... was never good about putting them on! Now my Polaris donesn't have one, but now I am thinking about adding one!

I also rode Doo for years, never wore mine.
I wanted one on my Nytro.
And I'm glad I have one on my Polaris.

It can be pita, but usually my problem is I pull n pull n pull and then realize I don't have the tether in... :P

Snowmobiles should come stock w/ a tether, for the ~$15-25? it cost for one. The cost should be far cheaper for bulk I'd presume. Granted, the manufacture would probably increase the cost by 200$ to include a tether..

Mmsports, I heard about your friend from someone at Klim. I too was in an accident where the throttle stuck wide open. I was spectating at a very very poorly ran hillclimb when a guy fell off his sled, tether malfunctioned, and the sled ran wide open down the hill and hit me. I've heard it was going anywhere between 50 and 60 mph when it hit me. I fractured my femur, collar bone, 4 vertebrae, and bruised my lungs and liver. There were children all around so I'm somewhat glad it hit me instead of them. This was 5 weeks ago today and I have a long recovery ahead of me. My thoughts are with your buddy and I will always have a tether on all of my sleds from now on.

Last year I rolled my 11 Pro and the throttle pinned open on the second roll. The track was going across my upper legs at full throttle. It melted the top layer of my Klim pants and ended my season due to leg (both) and lower back injuries. I will have a tether from now on.

We run Cordless Teth-Airs in our group. A radio tether or a cord, just use it!

If you're tether has bare wires, you didn't get the right one ) =

I got the poo one and it plugs right into the harness that's under the hood itself

Personally recommend getting the correct harness and not splicing any wires, but that's just my opinion. $12k sled, I'm not splicing wires unless I absolutely have to, which shouldn't have to happen ( =

All you need is two male spade connectors, attach to the tether wires. Plugs into stock harness, no cutting or splicing of wires.

I personally like the pro design style tether better then stock polaris. The clip is easier to engage then the rubber style polaris. Also the pro design installs on the handle bars, no drilling of console required.

Wishing you all the best in your recovery..........

Since reading this thread, I have changed my outlook from take it or leave it to, must have it!

I do not want to be the cause of any injury to my friends or myself.

Thanks for sharing your experiences and for opening our eyes..................

Where did you get this mount...new to the pro this year and from stories...hands down installing a tether!!!

Best thing to do with the Polaris tether if it won't go on to the plug is to give it a little lube! Lick the rubber hole on the chord, don't be selfish and just stick it on, need to give that tether some foreplay.

How many of you see a need?

I used to think pain in the butt. See a couple of time it would have been nice.

But this weekend I have changed my opinion to a must have.

I had a Friend get tossed from his sled and the throttle stuck wide open. I think we have all seen that, right stuff happens. Well some how his arm got caught in the track and it took a couple of minutes to get to him. I was not there and do not know all the details but he lost his arm so far and has a long recovery.

I am setting up a page on my website with tethers for sale and for every tether we sell 5.00 will go to help with his medical bills.

http://www.mountainmagicsports.com/tether_fund_raiser

I checked out the link and could not find a way to purchase the tether. More than willing to purchase one, as I have been wanting to, but moreso to help a fellow snowmobiler as well as a SnoWester. Let me know what I am doing wrong

Didn't read any of this but say NEED IT! I put one on the "dash" close to the cast cap....I disconnect my handlebar kill-switch and use the key to shut the sled off. My super awesome kick *** girlfriend made a quick release for our tethers so ya don't have to pull it off the sled all the time....just a little plastic clip tether thing that's really easy. to much risk for personal and property damage to not have one.....not sure why they don't come stock.

Never ran a tether, until this year on new pro. Sorry to hear of your buddy. God speed to a fast recovery. Seen many guys comin and jackets tore up from this, buddy got away from his last year as it chased him down the hill. was quite funny to watch but scary at the same time. When i picked up my pro it did not have one and asked for instantly, dealer put on and did not charge me for it, i know its a cheap part but still nice to have deal do for free. is there a link to donate to the fund?

Hmmmm........voted "pain in the ***", but after reading this thread and thinking about all the weird things and close calls I have witnessed or been a part of. I will stop being lazy and make a change for this season and use my tether.

It just makes good sense. :light:
