How many of you see a need?

I used to think pain in the butt. See a couple of time it would have been nice.

But this weekend I have changed my opinion to a must have.

I had a Friend get tossed from his sled and the throttle stuck wide open. I think we have all seen that, right stuff happens. Well some how his arm got caught in the track and it took a couple of minutes to get to him. I was not there and do not know all the details but he lost his arm so far and has a long recovery.

I am setting up a page on my website with tethers for sale and for every tether we sell 5.00 will go to help with his medical bills.

The key is not just having one, but using it. I was on Ski Doo for 6 years and all of those sleds had them....... was never good about putting them on! Now my Polaris donesn't have one, but now I am thinking about adding one!

Are tethers universal from sled to sled? I would like to get one. Been some real eye opening stories in the last week.

MMSports,

Read the story about your friend...sad, sad thing to read!

Any chance you could post up a picture of the Polaris tether switch and what is required to install it?

I will order one for my 12 Pro if I can see it and understand what will be involved in equipping the sled with it.

Thanks!
Ryan

i was riding last year on my 09 m1000 climbed a hillsled went over the top of a cornice i didn,t.sled ended up upside down throttle peged,i couldn,t climb up the cornice to shut sled down, ran up side down full throttle for what seamed like 5 minutes.lucked out my friends son was able to reach the sled and shut it down before she blew.seams like cats throttle pull is a little to light, will definately run one on my pro now, after hearing this story.gods speed to your injured friend:brokenheart:

Tether

I too have had one for many years. Watched the videos of sleds hitting trees. Always said I should put tether on for that reason. After hearing story of what happened to your friend, there is no way I am going without. Thanks for the heads up. Maybe you can teach an old do new tricks.

Do have the Polaris Tethers in stock? If so I will order one if not I will donate.
I have one on order from Polaris but would like it before this weekend.

My thoughts & prayers are with him & his family, very unfortunate thing to have happen.

I have rode with him in the past & ride with one of the guys that was with him when it happened.

I have 2 Doos & usually use the tether, when I went to pick up my 2012 RMK one of the first things I noticed was no tether.

It will have one soon & I will start to using it all the time.

Yep

USING IT IS THE KEY!!! I have always had one, unfortunately I haven't always used it.

Had an old finicky mod sled load itself on the trailer one day. Yep, it had a tether, yep, I was standing right next to it, was it hooked to me,,,,,,,,, nope!!!

Thanks for the right up on your friend, it gave me chills, I hope he has a speedy recovery.

Your story should inspire quite a few people to get one, and USE it.

IT SHOULD ALSO INSPIRE ALL THE MANUFACTURES TO INCLUDE THEM ON EVERY MACHINE AS STANDARD SAFETY EQUIPMENT! !!

Thanks again for sharing such a terrible moment.

Here is the stock polaris unit. part number 2870668.

unscrew teather

drill 1/2" hole where desired

put washer on threaded end, insert through hole and screw button side on outside of sled.

Pull the wires off the ignition.

Cut off some plastic terminal protector????

Bend the terminal tabs up.

Insert the new housing or new male plug ( the extra black piece )

insert the tether female plug over the new male plug

connect the two separate leads from the tether onto the ignition wires you first unplugged.

And i guess zip tie any loose wires to the nearest frame member

put tether plug on button and test operation.

I havent tried installing yet but seems straight forward. Only issue is unplugged the plug from the button and it wouldnt go back on, had to wet my finger and moisten the rubber plug to slip on the button. so thats fairly minimal haha.

It's a lot easier than these instructions. There is a plug under the hood, up near the steering column, that this tether plugs directly into. No cutting, splicing, etc required. I have the same tether, installed on my 11' Pro with no hassle. First attempt I made, I was looking for wires on the ignition switch, just like on my dragon. Had no luck, gave up and was going to return the tether to the dealer. Did not want to start splicing into wires without really knowing what I was doing.

Saw a post on here that showed pics of exactly where the plug was located, and installed the tether myself with ease. Tried to find the post so I could post a link for you guys, but was unable to locate it. There is a designated plug that this tether plugs right into, no hassle, just have to locate it. It was with a cluster of other wires, up top, in the middle, coming out under the plastic, real close to the steering column. Wish I could find the post which shows the plug very clearly in a pic. It is there for sure, trust me, very easy install once the plug is located.

Dragon bag, is the part number listed by Sledneck 13 the one you are speaking of

don't recall the part #, as I purchased and installed mine last year, but the pic shows the identical tether to the Polaris tether that I purchased.

Soooo does that mean you can still use your key too?? Got one just havent figured out how to wire it with the key??

You bet! Key function is not affected by tether install. It does not get wired directly into the ignition harness. Pull the hood off, put aside. The plug is right above the cylinders, back towards the steering post.

My mistake was trying to figure out how it wired in with the key. Couldn't figure it out, got discouraged and was going to return the tether. Couple of weeks later, saw the post on here with picture of the correct plug location, and install was a piece of cake!!! I installed the tether on the centre panel just below the high beam and handle bar warmer switches. See the link to the pic, I posted earlier.
