Rode out of the Trading post this past weekend. Weather for Thrus/Fri was awesome clear blue and with a little searching and some help from George (WileyCoyote) we found some great untracked area to play in. I will openly admit I am at best a novice at mountain riding but with George and my new sled I was able to do some things that have me itching to hit the hill again next weekend.
George was a savior as he was there with me helping us get a slough of sleds running that were “tuned up” just before this trip. I will save the shop some grief for now and let them step up to the plate and fix the sleds that didn’t work when we got there. But let me say that tightening down the head bolts and bleeding a fresh coolant system on a new motor build should last I checked be the shops issue not mine…but I digress. So after changing plugs, cleaning 3 carbs, and using about 4 gallons of ether we had most of the rides running.
Except mine and my spare sled. Both ran like **** on a stick till I got some new batteries charged. Apparently 13 volts when its 50 in my garage is about 4 volts when its -3 outside lol. So after some struggles we got out there. We ran from the post up past Italian creek and the taylor river, and then up to tincup, and then up Cottonwood to the top. The best snow was out towards Italian and spring creeks area, we tore up the mini bowls that Wiley showed me and even managed to get the women folk out there.
I did my first cornice drop at about 15 and survived to tell the tale with no damage, I am sure it was tame in most respects but hell I have to start somewhere.
All in all a great time was had eventhough we ended up with 2 novices crashing on an Apex MTN and an RX1…The RX didn’t fare so well the apex is still good. (Not my idea to put novices on these machines mine don’t get loaned out).
We will be heading somewhere this coming weekend so if you see a 900 Mountain Cat and an RT 1000 say hi.
Thanks again Wiley you helped me boost my confidence to a new level, and I am now at least a bit more skilled than an average flatlander lol.
