How is the road to tree phones? Do u need 4x4? Is it safe to tow a trailer without chaining up?

Yes, in my opionon it is safe to drive up there IN 4 wheel drive WITHOUT chains, and in prayer just for extra insurance. I just took it real slow coming down. I was in my Durango and 2 place trailer.

Snow for today

How was the snow today elkhunt?

The snow report for today would be late spring conditions.

We were first up the hill this morning and parked at Tree Phones, we made it up with 4x4 and studs and put chains on for the trip back down the hill. The snow was froze hard first thing but it did get a lot softer with the temps in the 40's:face-icon-small-dis

All in all 40+ miles to Diamond lake and back with some OK snow on the high north side ridges with no big accumulations (believe the snotel site for Green Lake 20") South sloops even high have a lot of brush/dirt showing. We did not go to Darland Mt so maybe we missed the 4' of fresh powder that fell last night:face-icon-small-win But It was much better than working!

It is icy. Towing a little 2place open trailer. I drove in 2wd to whites ridge rd then 4x4 right after. I don't see the need for chains unless ur only going 5mph or hauling a 8,000# trailer.
Same snow conditions as last weekend. Stay off the trail and its all good.

Any idea on how it will look this weekend? Looks like baker is getting snow Thursday and Friday... Are you driving to the snow or riding from the park? I have never been, but need to get a ride in! No snow here in SW washington:face-icon-small-fro

Forcast 1-8 inches saturday
Probably 3-4.
Drive 5.5 miles up the icy/muddy road

Put chains on ... the road is slick there were three trucks in the the ditch the other day, or maybe u have state farm on speed dial
I second this statement. Went up yesterday, rolled the sleds hitting ice, and I had to detach the trailer and sleds from the vehicle just to get past an extreme icy spot. I will not be going up until more snow falls. Trucks were in ditches, and even on one part of the paved road before hitting the dirt road a truck was rolled over.

Pics are from a week and a half ago but conditions have not improved much. Roads are solid ice in places where the sun doesn't shine.

If memory serves me right you take Ahtanum road to get up to there. Just south of Yakama. Might go over sunday to break the sled in if we can get away. Let us know how it went.

I made the maiden voyage on the new pro, the conditions were like expected(terrible) but better than sitting at home. unloaded at treephones on 3" of ice and conditions were not much better up top. if you stayed in the trees it was ok but I was worried about tearing stuff up due to the lack of snow. we need at least 2 feet before I consider riding up there again. We chained up to get to treephones just for safety, only about two other rigs chained out of about twelve there. To each there own but for me its just better to be safe than pile all my stuff up in the middle of the road or off an embankment. Nice meeting elkhunt an many others I have never met before. The weather was beautiful sunshine, not a cloud in the sky.
