Tailgate closed with sled in box, sort of?

I'll take it, but it's kind of funny how some will remember certain things and then bring them up and zing you on it in a totally different way.

When driving today I heard some rocks flying around in my wheel wells and so on due to the spring melt and I just had to chuckle, because all I could think of was everyone worried about their tailgates.

RJ were you in the truck alone? I know if I was driving with the wife and started laughing like that she would call me crazy. This little thread sure makes a guy wish he would have been around for the old days!

Yup, solo. It would take too long to explain to a lot of people, they would just have the big ? on their face. Just saying I'm on here and been since 01 sometimes throws then for a loop.

Borrowed the old mans truck once years ago, the thing was pristine. One sled trip with the tailgate down and the thing was chipped like crazy. My theory is that some mudflaps deflect the stones back down to the road and they ricochet up into the tailgate. No mudflaps = sandblasted behind the wheelwells. It's hard to win with gravel.

Hauling my buds enclosed, tailgate up, always results in my bumper being loaded in gravel. Now it's ricochets off the trailer.

The real question is why people buy short-boxes for toy haulers. Long-boxes are superior in every way except for parking and maybe looks (but that is subjective).
