Tailgate closed with sled in box, sort of?

The bank really appreciates me trying to avoid getting rock chips in the tailgate of their truck.

Kinda like asking why do some guys get nice groomers stuck in the mud???

oh ya beat me to it. cant look like a much bigger tool than getting a groomer stuck in a swamp with a half-inch of snow on it and having to hire an excavator to pull it out.

Funny, I'll give you that one!

Come on fellas, it's spring and we need a bit of the old forum days to close out the season.

I still can't believe some of you are so worried about rock chips etc. in your tailgate. My god what happens when you get one in your hood or something?

I told one of my friends I wouldn't ride with him anymore if he wouldn't open the damn tailgate. Even my mom, who has never ridden a snowmobile in her life asked "what is wrong with mike's snowmobile" when she saw the situation.....

Yeah I coulda swore I saw some pics on here of something like that, came out of Minnesota apparently:rolleyes:.

Take a deep breath RJ, those sitting-on-the-closed tailgate-sleds aren't about to jump off the truck and sit in the middle of the highway for the general public to hit and/or swerve around. I've hauled my sled that way several times with zero issues, no need to get all butthurt over it.

well...

[4) You look like a complete TOOL driving down the road with a mountain sled sticking up higher then whip antenna.

do the guys who have sled decks qualify as tools also since their sleds are way frekin higher up then the back end of one our sleds sticking up in the back of my truck? i see no problem with puting your tail gate up with a sled in it as long as it is tied down good and secure.

I always get a grin when I see a long track sitting on the tail gate of a short box truck with a jockey box up front, always fiqured the guy should try Vegas and keep trying his luck. I get a chuckle but as long as it stays in until I pass, don't care one way or the other. Tailgate up on a $50,000 truck does save rock chips.

what the h#ll

What is with toppers on trucks, i mean what's the big deal if your hunting gear gets wet and snowed on. it'll get wet when you have it on anyway. And mudflaps, what is with those things. When i by $50,000 diesel tow rigs i would rather throw rocks down the side and ruin the paint then look like a TOOL with those ugly mudflaps. What's wrong with you people. LOL

I've done it both ways and it depends. First of all, if you've got mudflaps and your truck is legal, your not going to get a single rock chip I can assure you, my truck has been hauling my sled for 2 years with the tailgate down and I don't have one single rock chip. 151" or so in a shortbox with the tailgate up=retarded, try standing on the front of your feet all day and see how you like it, it's hard as hell on the track if half the frigging sled is behind the tailgate, and all the weight is on a really small portion of the track. If your worried about your tailgate getting rock chips you could just take off your tailgate, the sled would be way more secure like that.

I paid a lot of money for my truck and like to keep it nice. No RJ I'm an guy who doesn't want rockchips in the paint. Call me anal for wanting to have nice stuff, guess that's how I was raised

I NEVER close the gate, have no mudflaps with BFG A/T's and don't get rock chips?? I refuse to close the gate...it looks rediculous. Also, if those latches let go on a bump or something, you'll be buying a new gate rather than touching up a chip....

That is one of the funniest thing i have ever read. I dont care if you have mud flaps full running boards and have your rocker panels linex'd your STILL going to get rock chips! Yeah there sweet tires but they throw rocks like a mother F@#$@%.

Oh and if the tailgate comes down, all you here is a thump... no damage.

And yes I haul my sled with the tailgate up, if it looks gay or not it save one of the paint surfaces. IMO whips look pretty gay too. Unless there on a semi

I load mine in the back of a SUV and leave the door up!! I dont get rock chips on the reardoor, just snow and mud in the inside. Do you think I'm a TOOL. :D

PS I don't have mud flaps either:D:beer;:beer;:D

I took this pic of Pinedunderdoo last weekend :D

^^ Wow, $1.52/gallon last weekend? Where is this?!

Also, I haul mine tailgate down, no problems with it.

Your avatar scares me Mule.....LOL

Liters......not gallons. 1 US gallon = 3.78541178 liters .....so $1.52(3.78541178) = CAD$5.75(0.99257) = USD$5.71 per gallon! Hell, I'm pissed about $4.00+ for #2 diesel, but we got it easy down south....

No, those things are meant for that. Now if you had a sled deck and you put the sleds on backwards and stuck the tracks up on the roof or headache rack, well then yes the tool thing would come back out.
