Tailgate closed with sled in box, sort of?

Why do some of you do this? Stand back and look at it once and tell me if your not completely nuts!
1) If your trailer has a normal v-front with standard tounge length, it's not needed!
2) It's still considered an unsecured load even with the gate closed.
3) If you have a rotating trailer jack it's not needed because that flips out of the way.
4) You look like a complete TOOL driving down the road with a mountain sled sticking up higher then whip antenna.
5) Most people don't back up at a 90degree angle so hitting the tailgate during normal driving operations is not going to create a problem.

If your trailer has a short tounge, unmovable jack, or not a v-front then disregard. The rest of you, it must be nice for you to have to ask all your buddies over to lift the back of the sled over their heads so you can simply close a tailgate.

what if you close it to put gear in the back of the truck under your sled? just a thought then strap the sled down so it is a secure load?

maybe they dont want rock chipped tailgates.

does it really make that much difference to you what someone else is doing?

I always close my tailgate when I am hauling it in the back of my truck, and I still tie it down with ratchet straps. I guess that the CRAZY reason that I do this is because i like my tailgate free of rock chips. It only takes a couple of seconds to lift the sled up and close the tailgate and I can usually do it myself anyways.

95% of us fall in this category
" If your trailer has a short tounge, unmovable jack, or not a v-front then disregard." I would also add spare tire on trailer tounge to this category...

the other 5% fall into the rock chips or other special reason...

who cares

I do it to load gear under it and around it. Also for the rockchip reason. Why does it matter what we do. Do you think we all like how your truck looks, probably not, do we care,no,do you?

I'll look like an idiot i guess, i don't want to take the chance of gear falling out, and the rock chips, plus puts more weight on the rear axle for better traction.

Well yeah!

As for the rock chip guys, you got to be kidding me? You ride a sled in the mountains, through trees, flip it upside down on a constant basis, bust things left and right and now are worried about a rock chip? WTF, it's a truck, not a Pebble Beach concours vehicle. How do your drive around, the amount of rock chips being thrown at you from the vehicles in front is a lot more worriesome then a simple tailgate.

yea i do that to my sled. with out really even worrying about it. But I don't do that to my towing truck. I have a play truck that i'll do that too, just hopefully not roll it too many times before the roll cage is finished.

thats how come i'm playing on my sled and not my good towing truck.

I NEVER close the gate, have no mudflaps with BFG A/T's and don't get rock chips?? I refuse to close the gate...it looks rediculous. Also, if those latches let go on a bump or something, you'll be buying a new gate rather than touching up a chip....

i think it's stupid to post this stuff in general no wonder there are no good threads anymore about technical information, i dont go on to a public forum and say that this certain type of clothes look goofy and shouldn't be worn or state that it's ugly, if you dont like it dont do it :)

I think RJ should volunteer to stop each rig and find out the reasons for how they are transporting their sled. That way we can all properly decide how to judge them

Um... maybe some people give a crap about their equipment, and do whatever they can to take care of it. At least that is something you can control.

BTW... what the heck does the sled being up on the tailgate got to do with rock chips on the sled anyway????

Ok, I understand the gear falling out issue, and I'll concede the rock chip's...... but I'm trying to visualize how raising the tailgate will put more weight on the rear axle.

don't really care either way.. but maybe I'm not seeing something and should be loading differently

As long as I get to and from the Mtn without any major problems I don't care what it looks like.
