Swapmeet suggestion, what do you all think?

I wrote this to Christopher and thought I would throw it out here and see what everyone on here thinks of it as well?

How about Parts by Manufactures listing option? What I mean is, I want to buy some shocks for my Ski-Doo XP, well I dont want to have to sit there and weed through all the suspension stuff for Polaris, Yamaha, Cat, ect. If someone is listing shocks, they would list it in both the manufacture listing and the suspension listing area. VERY EFFECTIVE marketing I think.

If you had a place where we could list Ski-doo specific parts it would also make it nice for that browsing type shopping. Like If I were to click on it the Ski-doo section and was scrolling through it and lets say someone lists a tunnel bag that I like. I wasnt shopping for it in the first place but I like it, good price, I buy it.

Just a suggestion but I think it would be AWESOME!

We've been though quite a few times while trying to build the new swap..

The reverse of this idea.. is what happens to the thousands of parts.. shocks being a big part of that which can be used on lots of different models and manufactures????

Having them setup in the frame that you have layed out, for most, would make it much more difficult to actually find parts..

Agreed with Snow Knight.:beer;

As he said, this very thing was brought up and we voted to go with the system we did for this reason. Many many parts... shocks, skis, bags, etc are interchangeable depending on their size range. Chassis components and such that are brand specific have been separated to help the clutter factor a bit.

So that is why it is set up the way it is... I hope that helps.:beer;

That's the problem with categorizing things one dimensionally in the first place. If tags were used, people could sort that way.

Ie., if someone tagged the shocks as "suspension" and "skidoo" someone looking at skidoo parts could find it, and someone looking for suspension parts could find it, but someone looking specifically for skidoo suspension parts would also find it easily. Tags can be cluttered, but if there were preset tags that you could pick from and only a certain number could be applied, that would clear that up.

Still think this is what should have been done instead of the subforum mess too... but whatever.

I am not saying to redo the current swapmeet. Just to add a catagory that says" Ski-Doo parts, Arctic Cat Parts, Polaris Parts, Yamaha Parts, and Other Mfg's Parts" It would be up to the lister if they wanted to list..lets use shocks for example...They have Shocks off of a 2009 Ski Doo Summit X. They could list them under the "Ski-Doo Parts" heading and also if they desire list it in the Suspension listing.

There would be no sub divisions just simply a "Ski-Doo Parts". That would not be clutter and would be sticking to the K.I.S.S. system. On other sites i go on with my other hobbies I spend probably 10X more time in thier classifieds than I do Snowest's because I get so dang sick of having to weed through a bunch of stuff I have no need for because I dont own that brand.

i like it the way it is cuz i know it seemed good to help categorized the main areas, then swap meat now, and its just to little in each on, i know, like ski's they fit almost alls sleds, just different saddles, most skids fit others, SO many parts taht are interchangable, i think it will be way to hard to categorize and make it easy to find.

and for people who give up looking after scrolling through 5 pages... well, maybe you dont need/want one if you can only scroll through 5 pages before giving up

I think another good idea would be to make showing where you are from mandatory if you post in swapmeet. There are lots of people placing ads for sale or wtb and we have no idea where they are from. This is important info as far as i am concerned, especially being in Canada.

i get killed by these adds...

200x turbo this or that, a tiny list of stuff done, usually bad grammer and no contact details, pictures or location. its really confusing how people think they can sell stuff like this, and i know one of the first things i look at is location, especially for larger stuff.

The new swap meet is this way.

Yup, This has been set up in the new swap meet. You cannot even post the ad without entering your location, the computer will reject it.:beer;

Both a Price field and a Location field are both located at the head of every ad to make things easier to deal with.:D

I think that if you knew what shock/part you were looking for that was interchangable you could go into each brand section and see if there was one there. Besides most of the time people always ask if your cat part will fit their ski-doo part, etc.

As fordy said.. new swapmeet has the changes already...

Check it out when you get time.. toward the top of any SW forum page.. in the black.. toward the middle.. "SWAPMEET".. that will get you a drop down menu for the NEW swap.. old one will be closing down in the next couple months..

That the problem.. there is no right or wrong way to do it..

If you have them listed in parts by OEM.. they you have people having to search through lots and lots of un needed info just to find the parts they are looking for.. and vise versa for if listed in categ...

Like Skidoon said.. if you cant look though a few pages to find the parts needed.. that person must not want them that bad.. Once the website speed is better this will help also.. but in good time

I dont think you all are really getting what I am saying. I am saying leave everything the same as it is now, EVERYTHING. I am only suggesting to add simply five categories with no sub-catagories, one for each manufacturer and one for others. This will bennefit buyers as well as sellers. If a seller is smart he will list his part in both the indvidualised, non brand specific section as well as the manufactuer catagory. this way the guy looking to buy a specific item can go right where he needs to. Then you have your browsers, like me, that doesnt have the time to sit and browse the swap meet for hours. I can jump on, click on Ski-Doo and look to see if anyone has listed something I might decide I want for my XP. If there is, I buy, if not, then I have time not wasted looking at Cat, Poo, and Yammy junk I dont want in 50 different catagories and can go back to reading/contributing to the forums.

Does that make more since?

I bet you, that given a trial run, these 5 catagories will have more traffic than any of the others cept maybe the sleds for sale catagories.
