swaping skids....151/162

I got two buddies...one has an 06 Rev Summit 800 151 and one has an 06 or 07(not sure) 1000 162. The 1000 got totalled(cracked bulkhead) and before insurance takes it, we were gonna try to put the 162 skid under the Summit 800. Any advice? Things to watch out for?

I am a Cat guy so don't have much experience w/ the doos. Neither of the other guys are "experts" mechanically or have much history workin on doos so any thoughts would be GREAT!

Would the 800 need to be regeared for the bigger track?

thanks

samiam

I'd try and buy the 162 back from the insurance co for cheap and replace the bulkhead. Its not that hard, just time consuming (about a day).

It's prolly just the rails that are diff?
Likely not the whole suspension...

.

To do it properly, remove the heat exchanger, tunnel extension, rails, and track. Direct swap from there. Quite literally the only parts you need to swap over to do it 100% properly.

The skids are the same just the rails are different. The rails will swap over to the other suspension but the heat exchanger is different on the 1000s so you will need to use the old heat exchanger and will need to get a tunnel extension for it but other than that it all just bolts in

I can't give you details, but we took a 144 and stretched it to a 162. Used the RT heat exchanger, RT tunnel extension, RT rails and made the swap, looks factory. I didn't do the swap myself, but I did order all the parts for my mechanic to get it done. If there were any "rigging"to be done, I haven't noticed since I now own the sled I'm talking about.

Unless Doo has changed their ways - you will need a good disk grinder to remove the rivits out of the exchanger if you go that route. And those are HARD!

You just gotta know the right people in this world. :face-icon-small-win

Besides - I am still a handfull or two short of actual, but close enough for who it's for I guess. :face-icon-small-hap

BTW - I just updated my recoil link below for anyone who is interested.

if i can bring this thread back to life for a couple of questions

1- when going from 151 to a 162 swap, did you or "can" you use the drivers off the 1000

2- the track off the 1000 (stock) are those still an ok track?

3- would you do it again,, or just drop some coin for a ez ryde, or another skid.

i ask because im ready to go with a longer track, and have found some used stuff from a 05 1000X.
oh an heat exchanger? 151 will be ok is this right?

Thanks guys
