Hi, would like to know when and where to ride in Sundance? Any info would be great thanks. Anyone got any pics? Thanks

i rode there once last feb and it was pretty decent. they have a trail system there and you can get off and ride all over.

sundance

we have rode there several times but it's been a while, I think it is about a 70 mile trail system with some pretty good play areas if you know where to go & like any other place if you hit the snow storms right, no gas or any resorts up there , bring extra gas with you & some snacks, a lot of times you don't see another soul up there , if the snow is good I think It's agood place to ride without all the blackhills traffic, hope this helps, Ken

sorry no pics

i like to ride this area some. There is a parking lot just a few miles out of sundance going up the bear lodge mountains. Usually not much traffic. Nice boondocking areas and a few hills. I'm just waiting for the snow to fly to hit this up again.

I'd like to hear more about this area as well, always curious what it was like.

Is the terrain similar to the Black Hills? Heavily wooded with some open areas? Steeper than the Black Hills or about the same?

Lodging? Sundance, Aladdin, or Hulett?

Where to unload?

Is the grooming good(assuming there's good conditions)?

Looks like it's only about an hour west of Lead, is that about right or does it take longer than that?

Bigger and more open hills, actually a couple decent hills to climb, trails were perfect when I was there, unload in the parking lot at the bottom of the hill, might take a hour to get there from Lead. If you check snotel they usually have way less snow than Blind Park...however the terrian is more like Big Horns where the snow congregates on one side of the hill, therfore deeper snow in places, barespots were common, I thought it was ok, was memorable as my son did not make the big hill and rolled his sled and then it ran all the way to the bottom, undaunted he mastered that hill minus a windshield. Overall worth a try...we hit it on our way home after 3 or 4 days riding...too tired to really care!!

when do they get snow, about the same as the hills im guessing. always up for something new

Also when I've gone riding by Sundance there has been very low traffic which is nice. Got one ride in here last spring when it was 70 degrees outside. One of the funnest days ever. There was still plenty of snow up top to ride and it the concrete type snow, so you had to dig with a shovel to get the sled out when you got stuck.

dumb question, but I'm assuming a wyoming sticker is required to ride this area. Are you able to get them in Sundance or places around there?? Thanks

Just booked a room at Bear Lodge Motel in Sundance For Jan 13-17. I hope they will have snow by then! It will be my first time riding there. We have 6-7 people going should be fun.

Best lodging will be in Sundance plus it is only 10 minutes to the main unloading area. Unload at Reuter Parking area along the Warren Peak highway. Sundance is 30 minutes west of Spearfish along I-90. Would be easy to ride the Black Hills one day and the Bearlodge Mtns. the next without changing lodging.

Warren Peak is around 6500 to 6700 feet. Some pretty good open hills there and just north at the Bull Hill area. This area is only minutes from Reuter Parking area. Meadows are similar to the Black Hill just not as many. Tree riding is similar to the Hills

Sundance would require a Wyoming permit. I think you can get one at the Conoco on the west side of town and the County Treasurer.

Info on this area is hard to find. An older website that I found is http://www.sundancewyoming.com/snowmobile.htm. There is an old style trail map on this page. Trail conditions are on the Wyoming snowmobile homepage (http://wyotrails.state.wy.us/Snow/Conditions/Conditions.asp). Hope this helps.
