Summit RT 1000 questions

OK so I have been shoping for a new sled and I seem to be be finding alot of nice 1000's going for pretty cheap ( way less then the 800's ).

I know they have issues, but I've heard that the 07 mid elevation flash, pods, and a can are a good starting point. I've read they are heavy and you can drop 50-60 pounds pretty easy, but what are the best ( cheapest ) ways to lose weight?

I'm looking at one I can get for about 3000, it needs handle bars, that would leave me about 6-700 bucks so figure a can, pods, and a reflash would close to 300.00 so with 400 more can this thing be made worth riding? I've heard clutch kits and a regear are in close order can I pull this off on this budget?

Also I ride with 800's and don't want to be useing too much more fuel then them. I guess I'd have to get a jerry can so there is another 80-100.

I also noticed there is not a ton of part for these, are some of the simple things swapable between the 800's and the 1000's? Like the seats, A-arms, skid plates, windshields. I know the side panels are wider but could you convert it to use the more common side pannels?

I have also read they need a battery, but are pull start ? could this be replaced with a capaciter to float the voltage for the CPU? That would be an easy weight loss.

I'm just looking for the stuff I have not found from searching. I know it's a whole bunch of info but we got all summer

The rear cooler delete is a free couple of pound drop, those sleds didn't need all 3 coolers!

Get rid of the suite-case silencer, I really like the Thing can, although they are a bit more money.

I'd run pod's, keep the belt dust out of the motors, that was one of the biggest issues with them, but they run some sort of an airbox to keep from sucking hot engine air.

Re-clutch will help it a bit, DJ has his stuff together with that issue.

Other than that, the sky's the limit, and of course your wallet! Great sled, they were heavy but I don't think that you "feel" the weight when you ride it. Great motor, made good hp and awesome torque, just got a bad rep. from the belt dust issue. Those SDI motors, even the 1000's, are pretty easy on fuel, my buddies would go every bit as far as my 800. Good sled.

if you want a can, i got an HPS for sale for one!! also got some pods... they help keep the grime out of the motor.

i loved mine, they aint light, but dropping some parts off them and they are pretty solid running sleds, the 1000 is a freakin tractor. battery is mandatory, there tiny, they weight like 4 pounds, the allow the fuel system to pressurise so you can start it. if you want a lot on a budget, then get the sleds, they run HARD>.

the bulkheads are longer, so the sidepanels are longer and wider... the hoods are the same along with the seats, and front end...

honestly, dont go to nuts with the weight loss on them unless your doing a skid or sometihng, just take out small stuff, they arent going to be light, but handle really good for it IMO, im 150# and had no problem throwing it around in tight spots, just dont get stuf by yourself, thats when the weight show!!

as far as milage... i could get 75 miles out of a full tank with a LOT of hard riding, it ran right with my dads M7 for milage. which do better then the doo 800's if im not retarted.

keep asking away, the 1000 is a diamond in the rough as far as cheap power is concerned.. super light nimble new, now.. but they will get you to the top pretty quickly.

You guys nailed it, power on the cheap... that's what has me looking at these sleds.

I do not plan on going to crazy on it with weigth loss but I want to do the easier things, just because.

Ski-doo in I'll hit you up about that can and pods if I get the sled, should know in the next week.

Are they worth putting a pipe on? I would stay away from singles and all the skidoo guys I ride with have swaped out pipes only to end up on the stock pipe. One even has the bikeman 880 ( or waht ever size ) and they just modified his stock pipe.

stock pipe is where power and consistancy is, only one that anyone has ever said worked was dynoport single.... guy from dootalk really liked his.

hopefully you can get it, there a fun sled!

Fun is what I'm after !!

I rode an M5 all last season and it was fun on the trails but I ride with doo 800's and when we get in the mounatains I'm stuck looking for the the goat trail around the big climbs, I want to play on the big hill too.

get it

i was in the same boat as you. looking to get the most hp per dollar, and the rt 1000 is the right sled. got a fairly modified well set up rt for cheap. ran it once last month in cooke city, and i was doing circles around my dads 800 summit. the 1000 has way way more balls than the 800. i would walk up hills the 800 could barely make it up. its a great sled if you can deal with heavier weight.

Man you guys got me going nuts now, I need to get my other sled sold.
As soon as it's sold there are like 4 1000's around here for under 4 grand and the one with the most miles one has 1,500 miles on it.

I'm pretty sure the 1000 is going to be the sled for me. Sounds like my bike, I ride an XR650L with a few good mods, it's a tank but I leave all the light little KTMs in my dust wondering how an old school tractor just schooled in the mountains.

I got my RT 100 for sale check the skidoo classified. It only has 500 miles on the sled and only 200 on factory rebuild (under warrenty). Great sled just work out the for arms before hand because the sled has some serious arm ripping torque that will blow you away.

Well looks like I may have found one, but guy says it's an 07, I was under the impression they only made them in 05-06....

It's a clean sled, with 616 miles, electric start with a 151, bone stock. Did these ever come with a 2" track or were they all 2.25?

Buy it you will like it. My 05 Rt with mild porting (190hp) and nearly 100 lbs taken off is a fun sled. Feels similar in power to my t nytro running 7-8 lbs of boost.

Yes, they did make it in '07 because that is the updated reflash that you want. Also, DO NOT forget to install a thermostat. It is critical to maintain constant temp or it will cool off to much in the deep powder and bog. Not a good combination. The thermostat will eliminate the dieseling(black trail in the snow from the exhaust). My son got one and after these modifications it scares the sh*t out of me and he loves it. It does have an aftermarket can which helps on the weight. It even looks good in the treewell!
Good-luck and enjoy.

Here it is, I ended up trading my 05 Arctic cat M5 and 1,500 in cash.

It's got 604 miles on it and with a 151, turned out to be a 2005 not the 2007 he advertised so I talked him down some more for that. Over all the thing is in great shape, the hifax are a bit worn so I figure it lived it's life on the roads ( no scratchers ).

It's bone stock so I'm going to try to keep track of the weight I removed just so I can pass on some solid data to anyone down the road.

ok, simple mods for a stock one.. .pods are litterally mandatory, unless you want to see what a blown up crank looks like

and the t-stat is easy and creates a more reliable sled, and for about $40 for the t-stat and parts its PRETTY dang easy to do mod wise

delete your rear cooler, gut foam, add a can drops even more weight, there is a LOT of easy weight to pull of em for almost nothing. they are heavy, but i rode one all winter and im #165 in gear loaded down. i cant make it dance quite like when i ride my dads M7 now and then but it is not bad if your in decent shape. it will just dig out of anything like a tractor... its pretty cool! and with the 151 i bet it will get some NICE track speed.

lets see some pictures!

Sorry it would not let me attach them so I had to upload them to my photobucket.

All of the advice given, doo. PM Ranglec on dootalk for the pods.

Take it to the dealer and get the 07 Mid-Altitude programming installed into the ECM. Get rid of those skis, they suck. Simmons Gen 2's are really the cats meow on the RT chassis. C&A's, SLP powder pro's, also work well.

I've got a spare E8012S fuel pump (the good one, the only one to run on that sled) I'll sell you for $50. Cost me a little over $80 at Napa. Mount it over by the battery (hopefully new I might add.) I might even have some belts somewhere I'll sell for half of new.

Install a thermostat from an 08 XP 800. Do yourself a big favor and install a digital water temp gauge. A must for any water-cooled sled IMO. The SDI 1000 can be a very expensive overhaul.

I already have a line on some pods, and plan to get ahold of a dealer this week to see what it runs to have the comp reflashed to the 07 program. The fuel pump you have is that the chevy lift pump or the other one, I have seen talked about, I have seen write ups on two napa pumps.

Hoping to get the t-stat ordered today.

I would make sure to vent that beast. I run R & M's vent kit they are a must.
As far as pods go I wouldn't do them. imho
I made a cold air intake for mine gets rid of outer airbox and belt dust in motor.
Depending how tall you are I would put a riser on I am 5'11" and run a 9 inch fly riser big difference in handling.

It's the 6.5 Chev Diesel lift pump. A couple of us started using them in mid 05/06. Never had an issue with one. The garbage pumps are made by Facet or aka CRAPPITT!!

Both are sold at Crappa, I mean Napa.

My budget is tapped right now, but I'll hit you up later if need be and see if you still got it.

What exactly is the purpose of the chevy pump? Or should I say what does it fix?
