Suggestions - Best way to support Local S&R

The S&R that responded to the John Meyers accident need flashlights!

Ten S&R guys show up in the dark of night and have two flashlights between the ten of them. It was ridiculous! I'd be happy to donate a few lights to those guys.:beer;

This is a topic of concern for me, i have seen numerous S&R folks who could not run a city block without blowing out a lung…im not saying they should stop helping, just saying I hope this is a fella who is not helping me.

Me and Tim helped two sled cops the other day who could not ride a sled on anything not flat…..it was sad really, I was helping all four of these lame ducks before Tim got there

And, yes I could offer goods and services in the event someone helps he, this is nothing about S&R, this is just good folks doing good stuff.

First, Kim... your *** is fat! It's not the sweater. That sweater took my a week to knit! And I thought you were an ALABAMA fan. (he he) how could I know?

2nd, Kevco. I'll teach ya to ride but not 2 up. That's left to someone more brave than me. ;)

4th, we are going to make a $ donation to Wasatch Co S&R. They flew us out.

b. today I delivered 3 restaurant gift certificates to the 3 Summit Co. S&R guys who helped us do the sled recovery. I gave them to Brent and he looked shocked. I know those guys do it because they love it and a simple thanks goes a long way but it felt great to let him know that 5 guys got together and did this as a token of our great appreciation.

not ashamed to admit that at one point late in that day I was cold, tired, hurting badly and getting really nervous about the night ahead... and we WERE prepared. Still, it rocks ya!

good suggestions on here. thanks

for a S&R to get federal & state funding all members have to pass fitness tests, I am not in the best of shape, but I am a decent rider, have some medical training, and I know the areas around here that we are called out to, and the most important part....I am willing to put my life on the line to go out in the middle of a blizzard to help you, and not get paid a dime for it.

what if that guy who couldn't run a city block was there to help you? what you might not know about him is that he may be one of the best EMTs around.

Your a better man then me, cause there is not a chance in hell I would risk my life unless it was my job. Not to say I would not be willing to help, but I wouldnt risk my life. I dont think you should risk your life, but provide a service under safe conditions only.

Now, in a situation with a family member or friend where I was involved, that would be different.

That's the thing right there sometimes you have to make is personnel, you have to have a driving force behind you that will propel you to succeed. Every time there out on a search its because something went wrong, maybe a blizzard or an avalanche or maybe a drowning. There are folks that make up the unit not based on one persons hobby. You have 35 to 50 members with only a handful specializing in all of what will be asked. out of that member ship a great turn out would be half but it doesn't happen very often your lucky to get a third. You also have to remember that they don't just do snowmobiles, they also do but not limited to
extrication
dive rescue
man tracking
boating safety and marine enforcement
law enforcement
security detail
High angle rescue
swift water rescue
Just anything the sheriff doesn't have the man power to do within the department or the resources.

They are also expected to pass all classes that the sheriff puts forth. the same training the deputies go threw and must do quarterly and annually as well as keeping up on medical and first aid. Its a whole lot of training and they must be prepared to drop what ever there doing at a moments notice and respond accordingly to what the call out is. Its a lot of strain on them and there families.

How bout some riding lessons for me i hear I need em.

Fact: Kev and I went sledden yesterday.
Fact: Kev tried to follow me on what I thought was pretty easy terrain
Fact: Kev broke his hand and got a concusion on said easy terrain;)
Fact: It most likely took Kev 15 minutes to type the above 12 words with his left hand
Fact: Speaking of left hands he is probly getting some "strainge" right now watching biggest looser!!
Fact: I did offer to call the chopper to chopper him and he did decline.JOKE...But I honest did offer the chopper:D

Does he need riding lessons? Nah not in my book:) He is a lil biotch though

Corey, a couple of years ago we got called out to powder mtn, the weather was pretty bad, there was a 14 yr old, and a 12 yr old, both girls from out of town that got seperated from their family, they had a radio, we knew what channel they were on, and they had a cell phone. tell me you wouldn't go out looking for them? after a few hours of searching we had stopped on a ridge and was trying to get them on the radio, when I heard them come on the radio and heard the fear and panic in their voice, it made me cry, call me girl or whatever, but it is something I never want to hear again. The weather had cleared a little by then, and we had the chopper up, we had them hold up their cell phone with the light on, and the chopper was able to find them by that.

OK GIRL :D All joking aside. I thank each and every one of you who volunteer and put yourself in harms way to get people home safely.

I've always had respect for the dedication of S&R volunteers.

my appreciation more obvious since needing them this past week, seems unreal. usually I'm knocked out! ;)

so, just a few ideas about how to ease their burden just a bit.

$$$$$ seems to be a good start.

gear too. I am going to talk to a manager at Sports Authority I know and see if he can get gear donated. :) Hell, they'll put summer stuff out in 4 more weeks right? donate some old stock like snowshoes etc. I'll try that.

Did Kevco really break his hand?

good on you for putting your life on the line for those you may not know....i for one only have inital thoughts of risking my life for family and true friends...but in a time of need, im sure i would step up and do what was needed to help anyone:beer;

I remember that!!!

cough cough GIRL cough cough

Dont get me wrong, I feel for people, but I know I am not going to risk my life as a volunteer. I would volunteer at the drop of the hat if the conditions are safe. And I think that the people involved should be understanding if the volunteer group does not want to risk their lives as well until the danger is down. A trained professional who does this kind of stuff for a living is a different story.

Sweet!! And I thought it was fun to make him laugh with that terrible cough he has!! :D

Trust me....I got great pleasure looking at him when I was pushing on his ribs, and the bones in his hand and watching him writhe in pain! But, that's what I do for a living! :D Most people would be brought up on war crimes for what I get paid to do to people, and I typically have a waiting list! ;) God bless America...eh! LOL!!!
