At a minimum pay for fuel and any non volunteer/ or a flat rate per rescuer involved. ...Gas up and down, lost work hours, sled damage/wear tear, sled fuel...all out of his pocket.

Please don't take this as a personal attack...You guys were in a bad way but the news will have a hard time showing all the tax payers how bad you guys were screwed. But alot of people will think "Why should I pay for these guys to go play on their high dollar machines and when they get too tired to get out call for help"

I know some will have other opinions but this is mine. Again Im glad you guys made it off in one piece.

WE DO PAY. ALL OF US. REG FEES AND PROPERTY TAX IS PAID ON 10'S OF THOUSANDS OF SLEDS. THAT MONEY GOES TO THE STATE. THE STATE THEN FUNDS OR DOESN'T FUND THINGS. IT'S AS SIMPLE AS OUR OWN MONEY BEING AVAILABLE TO THE PEOPLE WHO PUT IT IN TO THE KITTY. CONSIDER IT AN INSURANCE POLICY. IF YOUR NUMBER COMES UP, THE POLICY SHOULD BE ABLE TO PAY. AND RESCUE YOUR BUTT. IT'S ABOUT THE STATE NOT USING THE MONEY FOR WHAT IS WAS COLLECTED FOR. MY.02. WE DO PAY, WE DID PAY AND THE SERVICE SHOULD BE AVAILABLE... OR STOP TAXING OUR SLEDS SO MUCH.

dont forget to bring them boys a couple cases of beer once in a while..get mighty thirsty saving our butts...........

actually we "stuck 5" decided to get gift certificates to a local good eatery for the 3 S&R guys who came out the day after to guide us out. very awesome effort.

Ron and Hector will get the beer!

and a donation to the county who flew us out is in the works. We called OFF their volunteers rather than put them in harms way.

If and when they save my butt I would be happy to pay the bill cause I will be in the hospital bed thanking GOD I am alive and owing it to S&R!

Using all caps sounds like your yelling

lol. not yelling. just separating authors. after i typed it I went back and bolded the other gentlemans comments. and I agree about paying but my opinion is we ALL already do i thought... the state just doesn't allocate the funds as they should. New flat screen TV's in the house I hear? but cut funding where needed?

this get's into tax dollars, visitor safetly etc. Countys like where MOAB is have real issues. those guys are out ALL the time. like an avaearge of a rescue a day. mostly foot users, non fee stuff. yikes!

S&R is volunteer last time I checked?? That being said, it is their choice to provide this service at their expense. If I volunteer at the soup kitchen, I dont get my gas or time off work payed for.

I do believe that the people being rescued should pay something as well. And this money could go toward funding the equipment that the S&R has to buy and maintain.

agreed Corey. There's lots of stuff they use beside sleds and gas. Ropes and packs and snow shoes etc that paying for would help with.

I hope the dinners show our groups appreciation. but some gear/or money for gear donated would be a great idea. thanks.

Maybe you should ask them what they want and need? What their frustrations and concerns are amidst pending budget cuts? Otherwise, it could end up like buying me an ill fitting, ugly sweater for Christmas....appreciated, but never worn, or used!

There always open to any donations and one thing you have to think about is if they charged or billed for there services how many lives would be lost because people were afraid of the bill. Most people have no idea what something like that costs.
Yes it is volunteer and it takes a caring person to spend the time away out in conditions that are less that ideal and sometimes almost life threatening.
Your local S&r puts on benefits from time to time has drawings for prizes or breakfast benefits. The best way to support them is show up spend money. This all goes to equipment and training which could be used to save you or a family member some day. They also take used equipment that you may not want anymore and all donation are a tax write off.
Most search and rescue have a web site or can be reached threw the local sheriff's office for any questions on what you can do to support S&R

My thoughts exactly. If I new I was facing a several thousand dollar bill to have them save my life I would be less likely to call. I (thankfully) have never had to call on their help but I am glad to know that they are there if I need them.
On the other hand I do think that any one who causes a crash on I15 during rush hour should be fined 10$ for every car that is delayed do to their unsafe driving. I think we would see safer driving and less accidents.

How bout some riding lessons for me i hear I need em.

I know it's a smallish amount, but when purchasing a WY sticker, you should be given option then to donate a sum to S&R for the county you are in. In our little area a lot of locals laugh, but 1st ride my stickers are on and my yearly donation is made.

The S&R that responded to the John Meyers accident need flashlights!

Ten S&R guys show up in the dark of night and have two flashlights between the ten of them. It was ridiculous! I'd be happy to donate a few lights to those guys.:beer;

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! yes you do buddy!! I just didn't want to be the bearer of bad news...

kinda like a polaris, fun to ride..... just don't let your friends see ya on it :D

Rock if you really wanted to help them , make a donation to the S&R that responded, let them decide where the money will go.

Weber County SAR has a climbing wall that they set up at different things all summer, fair, 4th of july, etc... that helps with alot of the equipment that we use. we also have a big sale of Cabelas stuff every year.

For the most part we are all volunteers that love and enjoy what we do, we spend a lot of time training every month, and the reward for me is when we return someone to their family or friends and see the joy when they are reunited. A simple "thank you" works for me :D
when I get called out I don't even think about what it costs me personally, it is all about getting done what we are trained to do.

my wife says it's just an excuse for me to go out and ride my sled in the middle of the night, and it is really cool to sit up on a ridge in the middle of the night with a full moon out, just beautiful...

my kids call me a super hero because I go out and save lives, does it get any better than that? ;)
