Stuck in cheyenne!!

I was supposed to be where you were today. Highly unlikely we'll even make it tomorrow. The winter Storm Warning has been extended to 9:00pm. I'm lucky to be close enough to try again another day(85 or 90 mi. from Green Rock and Albany). Glad you got lodging and sorry they're screwing people on the price. Greed is killing our country and it makes my great state look bad. Good luck.

If I could guess Wyo weather, I would be a rich man. lol. The winds are supposed to die down tomorrow and that will be the deciding factor. We are not supposed to see much more snow but if it's still blowing bad, they'll remain closed. I know this doesn't help much but I think there is a good chance they'll still be closed atleast for a while tomorrow until the plows go through again. Pray for the wind to stop! I'll post what I hear.

Thanks alot. I'm praying right now and the other 3 people with me just became real religous!!

I know! It's funny how that works somtimes...lol. It usually happens to me between the Vedawoo exit and the summit on I-80 at 6:30 pulling my enclosed and feeling the a$$ end of the truck slip out to the left or right on a sheet of ice. You know, "The Pucker Factor".

This sucks!! The storm couldn't have waited just 3 more hours!! Anyone else locked in by closed roads?

Do you drive a dodge and were you towing a 4 place with 4 polaris sleds? If so, we were the guys with the 2 place enclosed and a sled in the bed following you. Were also stuck in Cheyenne. One guy from our group made it through 2 hours ahead of us. Uggggh.

Damn, someone hit me up with some green LOL. Some idiot slammed me for a dumb joke I posted.

Day one...this afternoon and tonight

a blizzard warning remains in effect until 900 pm mdt for far
southeast wyoming...until midnight mdt for sioux...scotts bluff
banner and kimball counties of western nebraska...and until
4 am mdt for dawes...box butte...morrill and cheyenne counties.

A winter storm warning remains in effect until until 9 pm mdt for
the laramie range...converse county and niobrara county.

Snow will continue to slowly decrease in areal coverage and
intensity through the evening hours. Additional snowfall amounts
of 1 to 4 inches can be expected. Strong north winds will produce
areas of blowing and drifting snow and reduced visibilities.

You could try I25 south into Colorado to exit 281. 18 miles or so I believe E CR-70/Owl Canyon Road west. That takes you to 287 & if 287 is open your home free. I believe it is about 75 miles total vs the 45 from Chey to Lar on 80.

Happy Jack Rd is almost always closed when 80 is closed. The closure gate is about 20 miles closer to Laramie though so if the roads do open you are that much closer.

There is a gravel road north of Cheyenne that is supposed to go to Lar as well but since I've never taken it I can't recommend it. I heard it can be washboarded. You take hwy 211/Horse Creek Rd to Horse Creek, then Fisher Canyon Rd/CR228 Laramie which turns into Roger Canyon Rd/CR17-Albany County & drops you in to north Laramie. Make sure you verify these roads because I haven't actually driven them.

Let me know how the 211 Horse Creek option is if you take it.

Good luck.

yep this is the guy that got us around all the cars on i 80 lol he knows ........

I'm just hoping I can get up the mountain at least on the 230 side if nuttin else...The roads here in Laramie are not very nice actually, but the sleds are hooked up and filled up, and I'm gonna try my best to get up that hill...:D:D

It's all about the wind fellas. If they die back some DOT can get the roads plowed and visiblity will improve. They are forecasting 15-25 mph winds all night, so it's not looking good.

I'm supposed to be heading up tomorrow, but I'm not holding my breath. Also, I live between Horse Creek and Cheyenne, and it is has been wicked all day and I sure as hell wouldn't had tried to take Roger Canyon. I bet it got dumped on there today.

Good look guys! Pray to the wind gods. ;)

A guy in our group left Cheyenne around 6pm or so and made it to Laramie on 287. If 80 is closed in the morning we're going that way.

We're driving a dodge with 4 polaris snowmobiles in our trailer. However ours is enclosed and we are stuck in laramie, not cheyenne but that fits our description.

Coldfingers directions got us to laramie 8:30 this morning. THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!

We were riding by noon and it was a good day. I'm going to remember this route for the future.

Don't worry the snow was awsome.
We went up 287 to laramie. The roads were great till we hit the wyoming line. Then it was solid ice and 40 mph. The roads from laramie to Albany was just as bad. Solid ice.

When we came back, I-80 was PACKED with diesels. A SOLID line of trucks as far as I could see in either direction.

I'm just gonna repeat what Ollie has said. The snow was awesome, was riding by around noon. Roads were bad going up the mountain, but rather good coming down until about the last 6 miles into Laramie, that was still pretty icy. The front part of Cinnabar park is pretty ripped up now until the next spring storm hits, sorry....:D

^^ See above

Snow was good, crowds were sparse, roads were tough.....

We had a great time - just took a little longer to get there, no big deal.
