Stolen Sled in Fairbanks Alaska, Recovered in 10 hours due to studs

A good frined of mine had his wife sled stolen last tuesday, on 03 F5 prototype version. Has the sabertooth head and special decals on the hood. Well they tried to steal mine and my buddies sled, but mine was already hotwired(due to loss of key) and his had the tether on it. So with mine I think they couldn;t figure out why it would already be unplugged and left it, and his they couldn't figure out how to bybass the tether(difficult task for a theif). Cops actually came and took pictures, surprizingly, which was nice. But we tell him we are going to track the sled because it is studded in a V- Pattern, and is fairly uncommon. And he just laughs at us and says ya alright boys, when you find it call me to come arrest the guys, and leaves. So we spend the next 4 hours tracking the stud marks down fairly heavily used trails for 27 miles, out into the Goldstream valley outside Fairbanks. Spending time on our hands and knees stareing at tracks. And low and behold we actaully recover the thing. When we found it we called the cops, who was totally baffled and shocked, and says he is on the way. Well we are now a ways out of town and while we are waiting I hear a sled fir up and start coming down the driveway. So Mike and start running up the driveway and I here come a punk kid riding Mike's wife's sled right toward us, totally unaware of us. So i jump in front of the sled and start yelling at him telling him to get of the g--da-- sled. And he gets off and Mike tells him to get on the ground so he kneels down and then is told to lay on the ground. LOL, so there he lay for 20 more min before the cops arrive. Priceless. Anyways turns out we also recovered another stolen Polaris. Which was awsome. Felt just as good to help someone else out to find our sled.
To bad the kid was only 17(we couldn't rough him up)and will pretty much get a slap on the wrist and be back out on the streets. But just thought I would share Mike and I's story because it was pretty amazing and a stroke of luck. But just remember, lock up your machines, and maybe even think about a unique stud pattern.....:D

too cool i think you should have roughed him up just leave no marks and say he fell down!!!

Thats good you caught the punk. If i could only catch the guy that stole my whole trailer full of sleds. I think your a nicer guy than me though. I would Kick the S#&* out of the Guy. Some people need to learn to keep there hands off other peoples stuff.

Good for you guys, that'll teach the cop to laugh at you. It is easy to track a sled, or just about anything else that leaves a trail on the snow.

use them studs

you should have used those studs on the kid (he had an accident on the trail officer!) next time he'll think twice about taking something that he might get hurt on. oh the next time you see someone with stud marks on there forehead you can say to yourself. THEIF
