Stock Nytro??

I'm considering getting a 09 Nytro for my next sled, but don't hear much about them in their stock form. Lots of info on boost, but I'm not really interested in boosting it mainly due to expense. I am wondering just how they do in stock form. I am not interested in highmarking but do enjoy climbing some hills but mostly boondocking & making new trails to anywhere. I'm looking for feedback on folks who ride them in stock (non-boosted) form. I'm coming off a 99 700 RMK 151 with slightly modded motor and it suits me well. I'm 6'6" maybe 240 geared up, and looking for feedback pro's & con's & maybe any mods other than turbo / sc that work well.
Thanks

Nytro

I added a few mods this season,, but the best mods that I should of done right from the get go are
- ski adjustment with dooley runners ( darting is gone)
- clutching ( was way off from dealer) I put in Tom hartmens kit in and geared down ( works awesome)
- changed track to a 162 camo
- stiffen up the front shocks,, I put floats on and ohlins in the rear,,
- riser and pivot adapter for bars
Sleds a blast to ride totally different ride after these few things...

Then I added nitrous 50 hp shot. muzzy exhaust, sled does really well on the juice my buds with turbos were impressed..

Time too add boost for next season.. This things too much fun.

you will have to mod

have a friend who just bought one... and he is very unhappy about the suspention.... the front is good..but the rear... i heard that they were going to put fox in the back... if you ask me they should just put a timber tamer on and then forget about it... the rear end is very week.. well there is no perfect sled.. i am happy with the tamer on my yam... mountain....not that the yam is not as good as a cat or XP timbersled makes tamers for all of them... but stock... nope... you will not be happy with my friends 2008 nitro

So your saying that the suspension is lacking? How does your friend feel about the power & handling?

great machine

but there is one thing... it seems to gather a fair amount of snow with the new front end.. the regular one not the nytro has less snow build up... and the snow gets into the inside of the motor... but i guess you can just put a screen.... but the motor... and the power... he is happy... like any other machine... needs a few tweeks .... to tell you the truth .. for me i will stick to the old style and its just my personal likeing...

I ride a mainly stock Nytro MTX which is limited due to budget concerns (I'm a new dad). I'm 6'1 210lbs and have yet to really feel the need for more power. But I'm also not the best rider in the pack, I'm generally just doing moderate hill climbs and boondocking.

Suspension is a pretty bad if you find yourself in a lot of whoops. I didn't really start to notice until days after the groomer had been around. Guess I got lucky the first part of the season and rode nothing but pow and never hit a busy day.:face-icon-small-win

I stiffened up the stock suspension as much as I could, pulled the limiters up and since then have been just dealing with it, which most days is fine. I plan to put a Timbersled suspension on the rear over summer and maybe some fox floats if budget allows.

Since you're tall you'll want to do something about bar positioning. The stock positioning basically drove the bars into my nuts all the time. I put a Powermadd Riser Tilt and moved it forward a couple inches till it felt right.

Else, some less expensive simple weight reducing things like replacing the drop brackets with Timbersled (*8lb), changing out the stock exhaust (*6-11lb), and other small things can drop some weight and give you a little HP gain (exhaust).

It's an awesome sled, I'm very satisfied with it and feel it'll only get better as I make some minor improvements.

Thanks! I'm not looking for a ton of HP just something to have lots of fun with & I'm not close to the best rider in my group so I'm not worried about breaking trail for everyone, but do have to do some trails to get to the powder, so maybe a new suspension will be my budgeted expense for next year! I figured I would need some rise on the bars, that is a given for me!

One of the down fall of the Nytro is the back of the tunnel the foot rails hang up in the ruts or in the deep stuff. The foot rails need to be cut off or tapered up in the back just my op.

It can be a benefit, as when you get stuck you don't have to dig as far down. Seen some big holes from dragon 800's with 163" tracks. They dig down really far as the running boards allow them to.

Though, if it causes you to get stuck more then it is not really a positive, but I like to think of it that way.:D

I have 25 full on mountain days on my completely stock (clutching wasn't a mod but needed correction) Nytro MTX. The sled carves like no other in the powder, very effortless to ride. It won't go heads up with an XP or D8 on a hill climb but a little technique and a side hill cut or two will over come that.

The reliability is the biggest part. I've done consecutive 3/4 mile side hills just to abuse it a little with no issues other than a little belt slippage about 2 minutes into the third pull. Like to see any of those smokers pin the throttle that long...oh wait I have, on the end of rope.

I've got a tapex and have a stock nytro that I just rode last saturday in about 3 foot of fresh. what a freaking fun sled to ride. I've got an m-10 in my apex, and dont' know what some of the guys are biotching about the rear skid. didnt' think it was that bad at all. snow build up on the boards wasnt' great, but not bad. boondocking and climbing through some gully's with tree's, this thing rips. hung with and even better then a couple xp's I was riding with. stock form, this thing is a freakin fun sled. on the open hill, the xp's would shine over the nytro. the other thing is the nytro is brand new, the xp's have 600 plus miles on them. would love to compare once the nyro gets some miles on it. why dont' you pick up an 08 nytro for 7500 bucks, slap a turbo on for 5000 (boondocker) and be into this sled for a couple grand more then a stock d8 or xp and you'll have the ultimate sled.

Sounds like the sled for me. I'm tired of wrenching & just want to turn key & ride. I'll have to keep it stock for at least the first year & maybe look at boost later on if I feel like I need it Where can you find an 08 for $7500? I haven't been to many dealers, but don't see any on the floors. Is there much difference between the 08 & 09?

not bashing there noob, but the ones i ride with cant come close to a xp on its worst day! turbo'ed! very fun sled, hey! maybe your just a better rider than the ones ive seen, because after riding both, there was no comparison! and like i said im not bashing, just comparing it to my friends.

I think that's what i basically comes down to. It might be possibly the rider, but from what i experienced on saturday, in the tree's and booning in the tree's up shorter hills the nytro was right there with these 2 particular guys. open hill, nytro coulnd't hang with them. we have one little pull that has mulitple off camber and side hills through trees, and buddy went up on his xp and stuck her 3/4 way up. I come through the opening and thought for sure I would be stuck, but the nytro just kept a going right up to the top. I dont' think of myself as any better then the guys I ride with, I musta been having a better day or something though. can't wait to add some boost, be into this sled for aroudn 14000 canadian. thank you sweet pricing in the u.s.a!!

ding ding, round 3. lol.

I rode with my buddies three xp's all winter,144,154,163.. When theirs werent in the SHOP... In deep conditions on a climb I couldnt get very close to them.. On the NOS no problem..
In more set up snow no problem keeping up off the bottle..
All three had their issues from minor to major.. They work good when they work.. But I'll take the reliability of the thumper and extra weight any day over the grief of the XP

I bought a stock Nytro MTX and rode it all year........til I got my T-Apex:D

Nytro stock was the funnest sled I'd ever been on. I'm 6'2" 210lbs w/o gear and I put a 6" Powermadd pivot riser on, could've used maybe an inch or two more but it still worked great.

Rear suspension worked great in powder but sux azz in anything else, just way too soft. My dealer was really good and they were going to change out my stock rear shock for an Ohlins and some heavier springs, I think that would've helped a lot.

Power was enough but there was times when I thought it could use a little more. It is snappier than any stock sled I'd been on.

Funnest sled I've ever jumped or done any drops on. It was a very confidence inspiring ride. Loved it more and more everytime i went out.

You'll need the risers for sure........cheap way (but effective) is Powermadd, pimpin way would be CR Racing risers and steering post.

Overall funnest stock sled I've ever ridden. Came off a long line of Cats (M8).

But now I got BOOST and I'll never look back...........only down:devil:

I rode a supercharged and a stock one in Id. Rode the S/C first which was impressive to say the least! Then got on the stock one. I thought it was going to be a let down after riding the S/C. But I was pleasantly suprised by how much power it did have. Very fun and easy to ride! Feels lighter then some 2 strokes while riding, well balanced. Didn't get a chance to ride one on a whooped out trail, but I only ride the trails long enough to get to the good stuff. Liked it enough to order an 09!

I rode one a couple of weeks ago and It was a dog-- not clutched corectly and it was all stock. I liked it so much I got my new one this afternoon I sold my turbo Apex I will ride IT stock the rest of the year and then IT will see a
gt 28 and maybe some shocks it just depends on how long the summer is I have a bad habbit of spending way to much over the summer.
