Stock Crate Weights RMK / M8

Do you think someone whose livelihood is in the snowmobile industry and being honest would lie? I'm definitely going to believe a company like Carl's who has a great reputation over someone on a forum. That said, I'm not sure how you suppose I'm gullible.

Edit: I think Carl's measured a demo sled, so until I know for sure I wont say the polaris is lighter till someone else weighs a sled off the line

Dear clueless, google VOHK.

I laugh every time I see these weight measurements. Everybody who weighs, comes up with something different. This isn't rocket science. Last year I owned both a '12 Poo and a '12 Cat. I never weighed them, shame on me. If the Cat was 50 pounds heavier I could not tell in riding it. The Cat, to me, felt just as nimble as the Poo, if not more so. If people would just put some miles on their sled and learn to ride it, they would be much better off rather than worrying about a few pounds!

cats turbo is way heavier & goes way better, but i agree a nice light sled is best for your wife or kids

LOL, they have to wonder about weights, 'cause you are the only one surrounded by snow and could even road ride. ;)

the problem with full of fuel is that each manufacturer has different sized gas tanks so it makes more sense to use the EVERYTHING BUT gas weight

I agree they all hold different amounts of fuel, oil. I think riders would be wise enough to take that into account and subtract X pounds for fuel, oil.

As I see it, much easier to get weights full of fuel and oil than to try and empty the tank/s and/or guess how much fuel might be remaining.

Plus, generally, people start a full day with fuel and oil topped off.

I could further complicate this by suggesting that we include range in this calculation. Maybe it takes one sled an extra gallon or two to travel the same distance as another. Like the Nytro for example. If it has the same range as a 2 stroke 800 with both running on fumes at the end of the day, then early in the day the Nytro is running maybe 25# closer in real world weight to the lighter competition.

Also, if for example(example only, not necessarily fact), the Cat and Poo have to carry an additional 2.5 gallons of fuel just to go the same range as an E-tec Doo, then maybe the extra 2.5g and weight of the can should be tacked onto their real world ride weights.

Thank you for posting what I have been saying for years. It's pretty tough to judge how good a sled is going to perform by basing everything on how it hangs on the scale. I spent a few hours on a 3 different ProRMK's in our group last year, including a $28,000 custom turbo and none of them felt like it handled as well as my ProClimb. If I owned an RMK and that was all I rode I'm sure my opinion would change; but it would not feel better just because it is a bit lighter.

Dear clueless, google VOHK.

I thought Vohk had something to do with helmets or something, regardless my apologies I misspoke. However, I still stand by trusting Carl's just because I have seen more numbers that are closer to Carl's than Vohk's.

scale

Whatever happened to the guy at the denver show that came around with the scale and weighed the new ones by the handle bars? And someone said you can remove more weight from the Cat than Polaris, why spend the extra $. Just my 2 cents

vohk said his poo had enough fuel to run..from all the poo/cat preps I have done and do...thats at least 2 gallons of fuel..he also said the cat was dry....

I'm understanding this is a 153 sno-pro, not a limited/snocheck which would be somewhat lighter due to the HCR style coolers. That throws the weight differences off also. Give the cat every chance we can get !!!!

There's no way, this is total BS! The Pro weighs 417lbs! You're all full of it! I've seen over 1,000 adds that say 417!

You don't actually believe that, do you? :face-icon-small-dis

You tell me. He keeps saying on different posts that he sets up the sleds and they need 2 gals of gas to run that is why they are weighing more. You Poo guys sure are defensive.

when the line are dry (as shipped) it takes at least 2 gals in order for the pump to pickup and prime..doesnt matter weather its cat or poo...my post here was because the OP clearly stated the poo fresh from the crate and running..the cat dry tank...hence 2 gallons in the poo....or roughly 12 pds......

There, I'm glad that is cleared up. I can't wait to have both weighed full of everything. That is the only fair way to do it anyway.

all brands bend if you slam into a tree.

Funny, I've ripped the entire left side off of a Poo w/o bending the bulkhead. Completely destroyed a TCP bumper, which on an 08 are built like a brick **** house, without damage to the bulkhead. Yet, the '11 Doo I had didn't fare as well with the tree that it went into.

Defensive?, you seemed to jump at a conclusion that implied a poor design.....
