stock '09 RMK, what mods?

Hey guys, I'm getting ready to put new top end in my 08 dragon 800. I see the "fix kit" is the way to go. So it has shim that goes under base gasket? how does making the cylinder taller eliminate the piston slap? Are the pistons different size than stock?

The kit has a quarter inch aluminium shim that installs under the cylinders to accommodate the taller pistons. I am not sure about the science behind the taller pistons, I think they are more stable. The pistons are a little bigger than stock for tighter clearances. This is the link for the kit. For additional questions, call these guys up. They are very helpful, and will be happy to answer any questions. http://www.pmspolaris.com/FIX-KIT-F...l.htm?productId=-405614&catalogId=-3275&fpg=1 I am also in the process of rebuilding my 2008 800 and it is really quite easy.

When you buy the kit, you will also have to bye some things that aren't included like gaskets etc. Good luck.

Sledder... what about the Namura fix kit? Its $385 . Then gasket kit is $55
Which pistons would you recommend? numara or wiesco? They claim over 500 engines with zero problems.

Good question I contemplated that myself. I decided to go with the original Fix Kit just to be safe. I am definitely not a piston expert by any stretch of the imagination. However, the advantage I see in the Namura kit is that they use cast pistons, helping eliminate the cold seize problems apparently associated with the forged Wiseco pistons. However, I don`t think that cold seizures should be a problem if you are warming up your sled properly before touching the throttle. just my 2 cents. I think both kits would do great, but again, I went with the kit that was most tried and true. Before I went with the Namura kit though, I would take a close look at the specs if available and compare it to the MTNTK Fix Kit. Also, I don`t know if you can get replacement pistons for the Namura kit alone or not, that would be another thing to think about.

Good info. Thanks. The company says they can supply namura or wiesco. I wouldn't see the difference if I used wiesco. Cause the MTNTK kit uses the wiesco pistons also. And costs more. $455 compare to $585.
I will give it a try and see how it goes.
I really appreciate the help!

Can't seem to get answer in Ski doo section. So Could anyone tell if the piston ring end gap clearance. The allowance is .016-.039..... Mine is .014... Will that cause any problems or should i take to shop and have clearance adjusted?

IMO I would have my dealer make sure all polaris updates have been made.
Then I would put a SLP single, and SLP big air box, Fox shocks and then rip the heck out of it!

All of the problems that have been discused did not happen to but a small percent of these sled. Between myself and my ridding crew we abused a large number of these sleds, 08 threw 10. With never any problems.

IMO these sleds worked very well. You can site here a talk about all the brands and the problems each of them had in those years. The fact is that all three two stoke brands had some kind of thicking time bomb issue.

Is this on the new kit? They might be ok but being the perfectionist that I am I would adjust them to be safe. If the rings dont have enough room to expand you will end up back at square 1... or worse. You could bring them to a shop, or you could do it yourself with a file. I think I saw something about it maybe on YouTube. I have never had an issue with it and never done that myself so I wont attempt to give you a procedure on it ;). Whatever you do though, make sure to take off any burr that might be left.

That is kind of what I figure. The people that yell the loudest are the one's with a blown motor, not the people with 3000 miles on an original engine. I have no intention to blow a grand on a "fix it" kit, especially when I likely won't still be the one that owns my current sled when it hits just a 1000 miles.
