Stay off the hills..

Agreed Troy, I'm staying home and playing with my new truck till march. As bad as I want to go its just not worht it. I want to be able to play next year too! Heard there was another in Tumbler yesterday...bunch of my really good friends are out in Kakwa this weekend, Kelly took his feoncee with him so I gave them all my avy gear to take. Just not worth the risk right now. pretty flat around wembley so I think I'm safe!

I agree! Been takin my kids to lots of their hockey games, snowboardin good excuse to stay home! haha I love playin as much as anyone but........ gota go, im off to hockey! lol

Be safe everyone

Good post Stray....I can't believe with all the avy deaths people are climbing the hills....I read somewhere the the snowpack this year is the hasn't been this bad for alot of years.....Seems like everytime I get on snowest there is another avy victim...I don't understand why people are putting themselves at risk on the big hills...I am a hardcore sledder and love to climb hills and rip it up in the trees, but when conditions are what they are I am sticking to the trees....I know there are still risks in the trees, but be smart about it....

im sure its getting out but people think there are being safe or thinking that there is a sweet hill with not tracks lets go high mark on it!! like its all over the news howbad the snow is right now and guys are still taking huge chances.. I was talking to a fellow snowester and a top rider that we all know and he was at bolder on friday when sugar bowl slid and told me that there was a few boys in the lower bull pen, also guys that go on snowwest and are top riders trying to climb the lower chutes!!:(
as bad as the snow is right now i wouldnt even go anywher near there never mind try and pull the chutes, dont get me wrong i have a huge ich to go pull some nasty chutes but its not worth anyones life to make that climb and have it slide..
Just be safe and stop thinking it wont happen to ME..cuz it could

No question, you are not only putting yourself at risk by climbing in places right now like the lower bull pen but you are putting others that are in the same area in a bad spot because they are the ones that have to put themselves at risk when they have to come and dig you out!! Be safe out there guys and gals!

The thing that bothers me about all this avy action (besides people dying obviously) is eventually some lawmaker will get it in his head that we are just a bunch of punks that need to be regulated. Right now as long as you pay your registration fee, you can snowmobile in open areas with no one looking over your shoulder. If this keeps up they will have officers telling us if we can ride, checking our sleds for safety equipment, having a db meter to see if our sleds are too loud, officers with speed guns, etc. etc. We need to be smart so this does not happen.

Be safe out there.

another person dead down in MT yesterday, no details yet, good buddies riding friend.

stay OFF the hills, its as easy as that, i like to see people like you stray saying that as you have a sled that will freakin climb anything, thats what it does, thats why you have it, but you can still sit back and say no its not worth it, others need to do the same.

I heard a story from someone's spouse who was involved with an Avy rescue with another group that was out on the same mountain.

If I can get permission to post it you guys are not going to believe what happened after the Avy.
OMFG there are some stupid people out there.....with NO regard.

Stray, I didn't see Sugar Bowl slide, but seen it afterward. It kills me people see part of the bowl slid, then they continue to climb right beside it...?? anyway below is a picture of the slide at sugar bowl below. It wasn't super big, but it slid.

Four killed in backcountry avalanches, snowmobile accidents
Posted on January 18

The Missoulian and the Associated Press

HAMILTON - A 34 year-old Bitterroot woman died today in a snowmobiling accident on the Bitterroot National Forest near Lake Como, one of four people killed this weekend in avalanches or snowmobiling accidents.

The victim, snowmobiling with five other people, was descending a hill when she hit a swale. Her snowmobile became airborne and she was ejected. Friends helped evacuate her from the site of the accident to the beach area near the lake where she was pronounced dead.

The Ravalli County Coroner is investigating the specific cause of death. The name of the victim is withheld pending notification of family.

Three other lives were claimed in backcountry avalanches this weekend.

Park County officials say a snowmobiler was reportedly stuck when an avalanche began in the mountains north of Cooke City near Daisy Pass at around 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

The snowmobiler was not immediately located, and officials plan to resume searching Monday.

An Idaho snowmobiler was killed in an avalanche that occurred on Mount Jefferson in the Centennial Range in Beaverhead County. Authorities say he was with a group of snowmobilers who could not dig him out in time.

A fourth person died in an avalanche in the Gravelly Range near Black Butte.

The Gallatin National Forest Avalanche Center says the victim was part of a group of snowmobilers who found his sled in avalanche debris at the base of a small slope.

Ya I am done for the season. I think somebody is trying to tell me some thing. My sled sold last week, the other one is in pieces and some azz hat stole my deck. So until next year be safe guys. :beer;
