Stay off the hills..

:mad: o thats no good Paul them fukers... well get that sled together and we will go for some spring riding in may!!!:D

Ya I am done for the season. I think somebody is trying to tell me some thing. My sled sold last week, the other one is in pieces and some azz hat stole my deck. So until next year be safe guys. :beer;

Come on buddy! Get that sled together and come riding. Sorry to hear about your deck. We did a 160 KM ride yesterday from Rutherford to Callaghan and back again but stayed away from all the big hills.

I heard a story from someone's spouse who was involved with an Avy rescue with another group that was out on the same mountain.

If I can get permission to post it you guys are not going to believe what happened after the Avy.
OMFG there are some stupid people out there.....with NO regard.

Scott, where's the rest of the story?

im sure its getting out but people think there are being safe or thinking that there is a sweet hill with not tracks lets go high mark on it!! like its all over the news howbad the snow is right now and guys are still taking huge chances.. I was talking to a fellow snowester and a top rider that we all know and he was at bolder on friday when sugar bowl slid and told me that there was a few boys in the lower bull pen, also guys that go on snowwest and are top riders trying to climb the lower chutes!!:(
as bad as the snow is right now i wouldnt even go anywher near there never mind try and pull the chutes, dont get me wrong i have a huge ich to go pull some nasty chutes but its not worth anyones life to make that climb and have it slide..
Just be safe and stop thinking it wont happen to ME..cuz it could
We were the ones pulling the chutes in the lower Bullpen. We evaluated the situation and made a decision. The entire hill had slid the weekend before, the slopes were not wind loaded, and have not seen the sun this year. The hill had a minimal snow layer on it, the chutes had minimal snow in them, and the avy rating had been reduced to moderate. We knew before we left the parking lot that no one in the group was to touch Sugar bowl or Turbo. It was also discussed that nobody hit a hill until it was evaluated and we all decided it was safe. We never touched a hill that had a funnel effect or a drainage area below a large face.
What is happening this year with the avys is unbelievably sad, and in most cases could probably have been avoided with good decision making and education.
As far as I'm concerned, the chutes are the safest hills to climb if the drainage spans the hill, if the chute collects at the bottom then stay off, plain and simple.
Question our decision making if you like, but making a smart and educated decision is better than sitting at home. We had 3 days of sun, great snow, and great friends to ride with. How was your weekend????

I agree with Troy. Stay off the hills. We were riding our local mountain this weekend and can’t believe how stupid people are. I don’t care if you have all the right gear, knowing where not to ride is the most important thing to know. We rode the meadows all day and found some big jumps, buddy attempted another backflip, etc. We had a great day with excellent weather, just like a Spring day. On our way out, we went through an area where we lost two friends last year in an avalanche. This area typically slides around this time and it had already. Two of them with about 150yards in between them. It looked as though it may have been 3-4 days old. These were HUGE slides that wiped most of the trees off of this hillside, and carried on over the rise and into the next valley (chute) down to the creek. While we were sitting there in awe, we noticed two tracks (from that morning) high marking right in between the two slides. I wish these idiots would stop giving respectable snowmobilers a bad name. That is just outright stupidity!!

Neil, glad to here you had an awesome weekend too! And glad to hear your group is one of the smart ones, and checked the snow! :beer;:beer;

Paul....done!! WHAT!!!! I think I just fell over...

the thing that bothers me about all this avy action (besides people dying obviously) is eventually some lawmaker will get it in his head that we are just a bunch of punks that need to be regulated. Right now as long as you pay your registration fee, you can snowmobile in open areas with no one looking over your shoulder. If this keeps up they will have officers telling us if we can ride, checking our sleds for safety equipment, having a db meter to see if our sleds are too loud, officers with speed guns, etc. Etc. We need to be smart so this does not happen.

Be safe out there.

ditto....

My weekend in Revy was Epic! Totaly agree with Neil. the chutes on Boulder are safe right now, you would not catch me on big vert slopes like sugar bowl or turbo but all the lower bullpen chutes were safe. very limited snow in them. the chutes clean themselves on a regular basis. bc avalance flew into keystone over the weekend and dug tests. results were moderate.

3 men killed in weekend avalanches in Montana

From the The Associated Press

A search dog helped rescuers find the body of a man who was buried by an avalanche, one of three men killed by snow slides in Montana during the weekend.
The man's body was found Sunday under 3 feet of snow, his rescue beacon accidentally turned off, the Gallatin National Forest Avalanche Center reported. The site was near Cooke City in south-central Montana.
In southwest Montana, a 50-year-old man died in a small avalanche in Madison County, and a 21-year-old died in an avalanche on Mount Jefferson in Beaverhead County.
All three accidents happened Saturday.
Authorities identified the victim found Sunday as Travis Engstrom, 35, of Bozeman. He had been riding with friends when his sled got stuck, and the avalanche was triggered as he worked to free it, the avalanche center reported.
In Madison County, Sheriff Dave Schenk said a group of 15 snowmobilers had gone "pleasure riding" but during a stop they realized one member of the group was missing.
"When they came back they could look across the ravine in an area where they saw a small avalanche had occurred," Schenk said. They dug out Kirk Hewitt, 50, of Belgrade but were unable to revive him.
The third man died when he and two companions were engaged in "high-marking," or riding up the side of a mountain to see how high they could go before having to turn around, authorities said. He was identified as Joshua J. Jenkins, 21, of Idaho Falls, Idaho.

It was also discussed that nobody hit a hill until it was evaluated and we all decided it was safe. We never touched a hill that had a funnel effect or a drainage area below a large face.

well it did sound like you guys had a great plan but the bulls pen is not safe at all to me! there is zero run out at the bottom and a huge draw that would just bring you down even lower into the trees! ya maybe say i dont know fuk all or whatever you want but id say this time of year no matter if its the bull pen or sugar bowl the slids are still gona happen. correct me if im wrong but didnt the sugar bowl slide the same day??
and ya i had a great weekend not risking climbing a chute that might slide

I did mention that the hill already slid and there was minimal snowpack on the slope and in the chutes. I also mentioned that there was no way we were going to hit Sugar or Turbo. You do know that Sugar is South facing and gets wind loaded...how does this compare with the Bullpen chutes? I know you are pretty much calling all of us tards while you are sitting at home playing on your puter...don't worry nobody missed you anyway:eek:

ya you did Neil all i was trying to get out was the hills are not safe! and no i never said you were tards or anything close! guess im in the wrong sorry for the dumb Thread

i still wanna ride this year..spent wayyy to much money on my sled not to ride it! i was burried on new years day, only thing sticking out of the snow was my hand. so needless to say i got lucky!!! no beacon and no abs, and yes i am an idiot!!! and a little bitt gun shy now too. however i think if a guy is super carefull and doesnt pull any hills that have not yet slid, then u might still be able to have some fun and actually pull some chit....correct me if im wrong. im no expert on avalanches. all i know is its pretty freaky being burried alive.

Dont worry about it stray***** some guys are as arrogant on these threads as they are in person. Tried to talk with NM and his group in the parking lot at Revy before Christmas about there sleds and they just looked at us like we were Aliens. I guess some of us are'nt up to his standards. Guys like that are way smarter than us:beer;:D

Neil is anything but arrogant, hes a true brother of Boost. Neil is the first guy to take the shirt off his back for me anytime! Stray it is not a dumb thread at all, its really good that we keep up the avalanche awareness up. Just need to not make assumtions that we are doing dumb things out there. You know we are much smarter than that. Mark i heard about your situation earlier this year....so scary. we were happy to hear you were ok!

Huh? Our group has always taken the time to talk to anyone with a question or help them with something. We are trying to make this sport better for everyone and not give it a bad rep. What did you want to know? Did you talk to me?
