Standard RMK owners

Im curious if any Standard RMK owners are regretting not buying the PRO, and why? There is a $1000 dollar difference at the dealers near me, color doesn't bug me as it will be getting a wrap regardless.

so far no
but my last sled was an 06 REV 151, and i havent riden much in the past 2 years
the difference was about $1600 here for the Pro 600
i didnt want a 155 track and also didnt wanna drop $15k on a SB Assault 800 for the 144 track

ill ride er stock for a few years and change out the suspension and bars if i dont like em
i usually do on my sleds anyways, and i could do it much cheaper then getting the pro
and i get the 144 track and extra front cooler i want still

Last year I ordered the standard and had one buddy get a pro and the other got the assault and I rode both quite a bite last year and found very little difference in ride!!! I like my bars with controls right on them better and also my sled ran cooler because of the extra cooler and different snow flap!!! I was close to getting another standard this year but wasn't crazy about the color and liked my silver from last year to much!!!

what one holds their value better

Well, obviously the Pro will be worth more when you go to sell it. I don't know about holding value any better though. You might sell the pro for 8700 used well the standard may go for 7700. That's 1000 bucks less, which is about what you would save when buying the standard new.

So it's basically - pay less new and get less return later, or pay more new and get more return later. I don't think you end up ahead either way. They should lose value at about the same pace.

i am happy with the standard.I wanted controls on bars xtra heat xchangr, plus all skidframe wheels.Found new set of WE rear shocks for $250 ,put fox zero pro on front. As for resale i dobt it will be $1000 .Just my humble opinion.Dont forget a sled is just a hole in the snow to pour money in.

Hey guys, comin over from the AC section so I'm not too pro savvy. I'm currious. Is the only difference between the Pro 800 and standard 800 the shocks and control mounting locations? Everything else the same?

Thanks

Shocks, bars, front cooler added, rear grab rail aluminium instead of carbon, standard brake disc instead of light one, added bogie wheels on skid, different material on seat cover .....i'm thinkin about 9 pounds more total? Can't think of anything else

We have a couple of rides in now on our "new to us" 2011 RMK and 2011 Pro RMKs.

My wife has the Pro 155 and even with lots of vents on it and scratchers down it runs temps in the 150s to 160, sometimes in the 190s on the trails. We'll see how it does off trail with more snow.

I love my RMK 155, it runs at 123 almost all the time with no scratchers down, must be the front heat exchanger. I also like the controls on the bars better. And as others have said it's easy to buy some take off Walker Evans front shocks and throw them on. I replaced the red hood with a new black one for $106, looks much better IMHO.

Another difference is that the RMK had the standard brake rotor and jackshaft while the Pro has the drilled wave rotor and hollow jackshaft as well as C.F. rear bumper versus an aluminum rear bumper on RMK.

Bottom line is they are both great sleds.

i think the gauge is also diff standard one has no heat gauge pro does but i also thought ride wouldbe a huge diff but i like the way this one rides, also the pro comes with scratchers but for 1000-1500 diff not really worth it imo love my rmk so far but only 65kms lol

I went with the standard RMK. Then over the coarse of last year and this season was able to upgrade the rear shocks[walker evans assault] front shocks[walker evans pros] handle bars[rsi burandts] and controls all with new or take offs for less then $600.00. So basically I got a pro with the exception of brake rotor and jackshaft.

My standard shows the temp? Also has playback just like the Pro. Just got to hit the mode button a few times.

So far I am very happy with the standard. Spent $700 on Diamond S running boards, HPS can, removed my headlights and am weighing in around 425lbs and am happy. I am going to throw a 163" on it though as I do notice it likes to tail stand a bit in the real steep and deep! Off to Revy again Monday early to test it again for 4 days of riding;) I am throwing heavier weights in it because our local dealer swears you get better track speed at peak Torque, not peak HP and I have been turning 8250-8350 here and 8150-8250 in Revy. I am going to see how she does around 7800-8000.

My standard 2011 800 came with scratchers and the same gauges as the pro, I like the old dragon style bars. I haven't seen anywhere the pro goes that the standard wont.

No regrets or miles yet. Last year a friend spent more money to buy the pro and then spent even more money putting wheels back on and more cooling. I have more peace of mind with the extra cooler, hifax protection and a bumper that's hopefully stronger. Shocks do look like they're from Harbor Freight.

Weight los is roughly 100 bucks a pound. So the pro is 1000 more and you save 10 lbs. Seems to be worth it too me. When you resell your machine, do you really get the extra money back in mods, not usually. In my mind it was worth it to buy the factory lightened version.

My only issue with my 600 RMK (144) was the absolute garbage the front shocks were. Zero dampening, almost dangerous. If the 155 standards also have these garbage stock "spring-holders", then the price difference between the Pro's and Standard's is a wash as replacement shocks will be required right up front.

This is the biggest reason I chose the PRO over the standard. With the standard, and my style of riding, upgrading the shocks was a "definite", not a "possibility". With the PRO, a simple revalve "may" be in order, but probably not.

After you factor in the extra cost in shocks, the Standard becomes more expensive and you won't get that back from re-sale. Quite a few hours were spent struggling over the benefits/etc of each and the best bang for the buck was the '12 PRO for me.
