Spun my 2nd set of Avids WTF????

Well I spun my second set of Avids yesterday and it took 5 hours to get my sled off of the hill. Big thanks to all the guys that helped out yesterday!!! I couldn't have done it with out all of your help!!! I am forever in debt!!.

This is on this sled running 17 lbs yesterday when the drivers went.

Back to the Avids. Not sure what is happening. I have an EZ-Ryde skid and I have been running my track super (and I mean super) tight to keep it from ratcheting. I am an aggresive rider and don't want to have to baby the throttle. I have resprung and revalved both shocks on the skid to get it to a super aggresive setting.

What I'm finding is if you go into a hole at the base of a hill and you fully compress the suspension and stay on the throttle as it rebouds it wants to ratchet. I did not hear it ratchet yesterday. I went at the hill at about 30 and hit the small hole at the bottom staying in the power and it instantly took the motor to the rev limiter.....I almost went over the bars!! Drivers were completely spun out.

I have now spun out a set of 7 tooths and a set of 8 tooths in 300 miles. I am beginning to think that my days on this EZ-Ryde on boost are numbered. I really like the skid and Ez-Ryde has gone out of their way for me several times but I refuse to ride a sled that I can not ride the way I want and that leaves me on the hill!! I have heard many times of other guys that have this skid that ratcheting is an issue. As all of you know you can't ratchet a turbo at 17 lbs!!!

I know M-10's are great for weight transfer but can they be set up for aggresive riding???? I am thinking I am now in the market for M-10 parts. Darko, stop buying up all of the Ohlins!!! Or let me buy a set off of you!!

Input???? Thoughts??? Any other EZ ryde guys with similar issues???

Again thanks for all of the guys that helped out!! I asked them to all PM me their contact info. I would like to take them all to dinner and drinks....:beer;.....You guys know who you are!!! No free loaders!!;) I will post my official thank you in the Washington section. I didn't get any pictures but it was not a pretty extraction! If we were in BC I would have called a chopper!!!

You are running your track TIGHT? I thought the reason for going to these Avid drivers was so that you could run your track a little loose and not have it ratchet? However, I'm use to 200hp.... not 300... lol ;)

The one thing that the M10 offers is the live axle (extra) so that when the suspension compresses, track tightens even more, you aren't pulling on the driveshaft.

Go talk to Derek Smail..... :)

Oh, and you should always get pictures of the extraction.

M-10's designed for aggressive riding big time.

Get solid rear axle M-10, stronger and lighter than live axle.

As for the Avid problem, it really doesnt make sense, i have never ever seen a set of Avids fail, or even come close. These the white billet nylons, or black plastics ? A dumb question i know, but when there pressed on is the collar staying in place and are the 2 felt balance points lined up ? (like i said, dump ? and not trying to insult intelligence)

toyzgalore had this same prob last week and it turns out Avid had sent him the wrong drivers...the inside diameter was too large.

How easy were they to press on? I would start with a call to Avid.

They were the white cnc'd ones. I have run Avids for a long time and never had this issue. That is why I'm thinking it is the skid setup. Both timing marks were lined up and they pressed on with good resistence. ( I have pressed on all of my drivers over the years so it is not something new to me)

I should have gone m-10 from the start. I wish there was a shop here localy that had great m-10 Knowledge. I got pulled into the ez becasue I thought the local shop had good mounting info............that is a whole different conversation............

Darko, don't worry about insulting my intelligence.....it's under attack at all times.....mostly from my wife!!

I think the problem is that you just can't keep the track tight enough with this skid to keep the power layed on with the skid fully compressed. If I run it any tighter I might have to join a Blue grass band......"The EZ-Ryders"

I heard about Toys mishap. I saw him yesterday on the hill but I didn't know who he was or I would have asked him about it.

Dam, i cant imagine how much torque it would take to spin the Avids.

Lose it doesnt much matter when it comes down to spinning a driver, too loose will ratchet and chew down the extro's long before causing it to spin on the drive axle. Any wear on the extro's ?

I gotz *** all for knowledge on the Ez ryde, only guy i know here that ha one rides like like grandma so hes no help.

Gunnerthesnowman runs an ezride with Avids, he has no driver issues, he rides it like a stolen sheep. I am running the Mountain Magic drivers, way better built IMO, they are way beefier, even the collar is heavier, they are a corksucka to press on, dont think they would ever spin. I run my track loose as hell. Might be worth a try if you have gone thru a couple of sets.

Hey SAP I saw you when we where leaving presidents bowl last night I didnt know you where being towed till we got back to the truck and one of the guys told me. Otherwise i would have stayed and heled you for sure its a ***** trying to get out of there...Anyways yes my avids did spin on the shaft the white cncd ones smail thinks they sent me the wrong ones he did measure both sets and said they where not the same size call him for the 411. I just had the ez ride put on so I hope that it is not part of the prob but as soon as the ez ride went on and the avids the first ride out is when they spun. my shaft is perfect no bends or anything. Call me if you wana no more or call derick smail. let us know what happens thanks.

I had a hard time keeping the track from ratcheting with the ez ryde skid , doesn't seem like that would be related to spinning the drivers on the shaft though .My guess is the drivers had the wrong inside diameter .

My guess is wrong diameter also. Noob's been running stock Yammy drivers on his 310 kit (with M-10) for 2 years and no problems. As hard as the Avids press on, I can't see them spinning(if they're the right diameter).

I believe this is not an Avid issue.

The first set of 7 tooths spun just enough to be out of time.(Ratcheting tons with wrong skid mounting) The 8 tooths gutted themselves.( not much for me to measure to see if they were the wrong size) Both happened in the same senerio. I believe the 8 tooths got taken out so fast because the track must have hit the jackshaft. My point is this skid must not keep the track tight in this condition allowing it to ratchet......

I knew using the 8 tooths could be catastrophic failure if I had any ratcheting because of the clearance to the jackshaft. I have been religious about the track tention and have four rides without any issues or ratcheting prior to yesterday so I don't think they would have lasted that long if they were the wrong inside diameter.

I went to the 8 tooths because of mounting issues with the EZ-Ryde. I needed to get the front of the skid up a ton and did not have the clearance needed to have the track clear the cross shaft. Like I said this is a 10 page post if I have to explain it all.

I found a guy here locally at Fastrax that sounds like he knows what he is doing with the M-10.......Might be placing an order today......

Darko...you got any Ohlins you want to sell me??

Anyone got a used M-10 they want to sell?? Needs to be a solid axle!!

Get ahold of Kurt at Fasttrax about the m-10 . I've heard allot of people say they have to run there track banjo tight with the ez-ryde skid and that is coming from non turbo guy's too.

The debt can be paid in:beer; That was a long day,my back is a hurting.Glad to that ride in your driveway off my poor kids sled:D

Sidehil,

Thanks again!! My back is sore as well. Gather the boys up and we will go ride and I buy dinner and drinks on the way home!!

You guys see anything wrong with this picture???? Other than the spun out drivers??

The guy rides his sled HARD crazy he beats it hard and our snow is hard I know fast track in Puyallup set up a few apex m10 this year.

I gave smail your # he should be calling you soon he might be able to help? If you ever get stuck in presidents bowl again you can go out the bottom to the left side where I had to that drops you down to kachess road or you could spend 4 hours diging out the right side when it,s blow inn.

also would ratcheting strip the inside of the driver where it is pressed on the shaft? My guess would be no.

When mine first started to go I thought it was ratcheting but it was actually the driver spinning on the shaft.
How many miles are on the set that went ?
Good luck keep us posted
