Spirit Mt. Hillcross Race

I agree that the track was retarted. The step up jump had that single before it and i was told that the single was supposed to be a kicker, so you could land on the flat part of step up jump. But I only saw one person make it in practice. So they just made the single smaller so nobody could make it, why would you do that? Also the finish line jump, was asking for trouble. Why would you put it so close to the building, deaton took out the fence in practice and thank god the return lane behind the fence had just been cleared. They should have let the sleds go threw first and then let the people cross, not let the people have priority.

My buddy ended up breaking his collar bone, when he crashed coming off the last triple. I thought the neck collars were supposed to protect us from this happening. But the doctor told us that they really don't help us that much.

They need to really get there stuff together for next year. Anyone going to the banquet should bring some of this stuff up, its about time that they start listening to us.

"I thought the neck collars were supposed to protect us from this happening. But the doctor told us that they really don't help us that much. "

I have to debate this whole heartly... The collars are not a catch all to end all to stop collar bone injuries, just another protective measure to help lessen the chance of becoming seriously injuried. Three years ago there were a ton of guys getting bucked off and cracking their helmets off their sholders resulting in an injury that leaves you looking like you are fine an dandy. Most of the guys didnt even have the sling that the doctors provided with them the next weekend, but they still couldnt race. I have hit my helmet on my EVS2 several times and gotten up and thought...boy I wonder how far my neck would have gone... I attribute my ability to still be walking around today (after my crash at Giants Ridge) to that collar. I dont doubt that my injuries would have been alot worse than a broken neck and back - perhaps even paralized - had I not been wearing that collar.

I see the motocross guys have even more in depth collars, but they are coming back in with mixed reviews - saving necks and collar bones but breaking backs. I am going to stick with my $30 Parts Unimited special until I see more data. I promise you I dont ride without mine. I would like to see what that doctor had for comparison injuries before saying they dont help that much. From what I have seen, most doctors that I have had to see due to SnoX trama dont really understand what exactly it is we are doing, let alone the speed and masses we are throwing around.

Think of tha collar like a nut cup. You can play without it, but do you really want the conciquences...?

Indeed, I think the neck collars are a worthwhile investment and a good choice. You can have all the safety equipment in the world and still get hurt. That is how chances and risk works. The safety equipment can only reduce the chances of serious injury, not completely eliminate it.

Also, citationSS, usually I run hillx but that this paticular weekend I tried out hilldrags, so you are correct I was not part of the hillx side. I was comparing hilldrags to how normal hillcross goes. I know this weekend was special in the fact that the layout was super different, which also changed the way staging worked drastically. So I can certainly see that the hillx side had some extra hurry up and wait and confusion going on.
