My Sled

My project started with a Tera/alps tunnel and cooler. In February last year. He did a great job on it. So, I went futher and had him put in a new motor and build some pipes for it. It was a big job. But it shouldn't take more than two or three months. I drove 5hrs to his shop last weekend to remind him that I need my sled. Ted wasn't there (no big deal) so I left a note on his shop door. NEVER GOT A CALL!! I have e-mailed and called all week. My problem is, that I like Ted and I like the work he does. I'm from the states and really do know what to do anymore. Anybody, who can help me out that would be great.

talked to ted yesterday, just so you know he's been putting in 12-14hr days every day trying to get chit done and to make everyone happy!!!! and when parts are back ordered or late showing up, it pushes him farther back! so cut him a little slack.

Cut some slack??? They are just looking for a phone call or a return phone call to see what is going on. A little friendly customer service goes a long way.

I just want my sled back. 6 months is long enough for any kind of mod. It took Curt @ Nextech 2 weeks to build me a complete carbon fiber rear suspension. Ted told me on Dec 30/08 my sled would be ready and delivered this week, he has not called or contacted me since. I have not for one minute been unreasonable, I was told I would get my sled back in Nov/08 when I dropped it off in July, I know he was waiting for the pipes so I did not complain. I hope that someone that knows him well will tell him to keep his promise. The next step is to start legal action against him starting with the RCMP, I don't want to do this but if he does not contact me I have no choice. I have every e-mail and document to support my case. After this I am not sure if I will continue to sled, Ted has caused nothing but grief for me with my family, friends, my job, and has just put a complete downer on my sledding year. No mod is worth the grief. Thanks Ted.

wow..you really spread your grief with all thats around ya...couldn;t you spare them..i mean it is kinda personel..any karma man...maybe you have been spared from an injury or something worse buy not having your sled...anyway don;t bother with the rcmp..itts not in their ball park to deal with your issue...you can pick up your sled anytime right..??,,anyway i try to get my mods to be looked at in mar/apr..time flies

Ted has had my Sled since Feb of last year. Is that enough time? All my sled needs is a couple of days of his time. All I need is a phone call and a commitment.

I will get over this, that's not a problem. Pick my sled up anytime??? My sled is no longer a sled, it just parts struin all over Teds garage. As far as spreading grief, my buddies want to go sledding with me, my wife wants to know where the $20,000.00+ sled is. And I am constantly trying to get a hold of Ted during the day, when I should be working. Ted's not my Buddy, he is not doing me a favour, he is running a business, he should start communicating with his customers.

Thanks, Teeroy, and Blu. Will keep everyone posted, so no one will have to go through this garbage of not knowing what is going on.

yikes..letting the wife know the sleds worth 20 grand...ok now i feel for ya...my sled costs are top top secret..heck she thinks maybe 400 in mods...thats the way she can keep thinking..

regardless of how "cool" a shops work is, a business has to take into account, if the customers don't get what they pay for, business will be a lot slower next year! maybe Ted shouldn't have taken on so many jobs he can't keep up with the workload, or maybe hire someone to help out, not keeping promises is one thing , but, ignoring your customers concerns is business suicide!!!

Stuff happens and there can be delays but these timeframes are ridiculous. Add to that the refusal to answer emails or phone calls and I would say this person is on my personal black list. You can be sure his business practices would be radically different if he was a custom bike builder for Angel clientele!!!!

Thanks for the humour, I have tried to hide it from her but she is like a PI. LOL

Man, I can't believe this crap. I hear guys complainin' when I tell them I need their sled's for a week to get 30hrs of work done. Think I'll print this thread off and use it, LOL

ouch...yep thats a long time,,,gee does any woman even wait for there man that long if he;s away...not likely..hope it comes together for ya

I've heard Ted talking on here about his kids hockey before, and honestly I think he may very well be in the right for the most part.Family first guys, every year of his kids lives that he spends his free time working on your sleds is more time with his kids he'll never ever get back. If he is swamped maybe he could hire someone to help him but then there's big costs there too and the way I see it its gotta be tought to make money building sleds, when you look at a turn key sleds price in comparison to man hours and parts costs. Furthermore if he hired someone and it turned out that the guy wasn't that good it would definately reflect upon his business. I know too what its like to have someone else work on your mod, its gonna take time. As far as him taking on too many jobs goes its not hard to see what happened there, the man does good work and prople want HIM to work on their sleds. If they didn't care who did it it'd probably take load off him because he could turn them away, but I feel I'm alot like most mod riders, and although my sled rarely goes to shops for work anymore, when it does you bet its goin to someone who's work I have faith in. And I know beforehand that its gonna be a while, but that it'll be well worth it in the end. Now a bulkhead up mod build takes a lot of time. I've done 3 of them now, and each time I've done it its been no less than 300 hours to get it done to perfection, like to the point where I know its not goin to go down on the first trip and that nothing is half a$$ed. If any of these projects are true one offs I can see why it takes him so long to get them done. 300 hours is a month of 10 hour days. Add in part times and the fact that he's got a million projects on the go and things get real swamped real fast.
Now that said I did deal with Ted on a 1160 in 2004, he even offered to let me come down and ride one before I bought, and I thought he seemed very good to deal with. I didn't wind up buying the motor because I found a CS 1140 that was used but freshly rebuilt and 20hp more for about half the price but regardless I think I'd deal with him no problem.

From the sounds of it, no one is questioning his work, seems like largely the problem is that they can't reach him, and emails, phone calls, and even notes on the door are ignored. If the commitment to do the work is made, it needs to be followed through on.
