Socialism 101

A

Anti-Hero

ACCOUNT CLOSED
An economics professor at a local college made a statement that he had
never failed a single student before but had once failed an entire class.

That class had insisted that socialism worked and that no one would be poor
and no one would be rich, a great equalizer.

The professor then said, "OK, we will have an experiment in this class on
socialism. All grades would be averaged and everyone would receive the same
grade so no one would fail and no one would receive an A.
After the first test, the grades were averaged and everyone got a B.

The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied
little
were happy.

As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had
studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free
ride too so they studied little.

The second test average was a D! No one was happy.

When the 3rd test rolled around, the average was an F.
The scores never increased as bickering, blame and name-calling all
resulted
in hard feelings and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else.

All failed, to their great surprise, and the professor told them that
socialism would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great, the
effort to succeed is great, but when government takes all the reward away,
no one will try or want to succeed.

Could not be any simpler than that. *

Wonder if that actually happened.

Seriously? Yah, it happened. You know when you were in school, the only reason anyone did anything was for a grade. None of the students actually cared or were interested in the material. None liked the subject at all. All the students were only there for one thing, to get a grade.

I guess that is like the real world. We don't do anything, if we don't get a dollar for it.

Oh, how easy it is to break down the argument.

Question for people...

If there was no money, nor any financial incentive would people stop striving to better themselves? All these arguments seem to think that people would just become sloths and do nothing if money was not around.

I build, I create, I learn, I imagine, I prosper, and money as an incentive has little to do with it.

Another question for the people...

If you did not need a paycheck to survive, would you still do the job you are doing? Is money the only reason you are working? What else would you be doing with your life?

I probably would, but I would be a dozer operator opening up roads in the spring. :D

Ruffy, you miss the basic tenant of the problem with socialism.

It's not about not having a desire to better your lot in life.
It's about why should I strife so hard when I see so many doing nothing and getting same things I am.
Where is the insentive to excell?

All you have to do is look at the Soviet Union to see what happens.
Apathy.
People just don't care.

You said..........
"You know when you were in school, the only reason anyone did anything was for a grade. None of the students actually cared or were interested in the material."

When I was in school you had pride in your work.
You did your best because it was expected of you. By your parents and the school.
We didn't have guards and metal detectors at the doors.
If you messed up, you paid the price. You didn't have the ACLU come in and sue the school.

Oh, and my generation gave you half the comforts you so enjoy.
What has the 20 somethings done?
As a whole, what have they done?

I remember sitting in my living room watching the launch of the first man on the moon.
My generation and the one proceeding it, gave this country the greatest success in the history of the planet.
We did it because we wanted to. We did it because it was a challenge.
Look at things now.
If the government doesn't force it, it doesn't happen.
Why?
Government interference has made new super research SO expensive no one can do it.
Do you honestly think the Wright brothers could invent flight today?
With all the government regulations conserning safety, construction, etc......... They wouldn't be able to do it without a few billionairs backing them.

That is not what took them down at all...

You think the financial structure which is only one part of a persons life rules all? BS... and a complete misunderstanding of human life.

Look at your job. You are a govt employee. Do you do it for the money? When you were in the military (another govt job, very similar to living under socialist rule too, no doubt) did you do it for the money? Did you only do a good job for a paycheck? Did you learn only for a paycheck? Was there lots of apathy in them military?

Lots of people do have pride, in themselves and their job, irregardless of paycheck amount. Your argument is complete bs, and frankly insulting. I do the things I do for more then money.

I guess maybe you do not?

Yah, you guys gave us what? Half the comforts?

So what did going to the moon get the average person. IMO nothing, except maybe pride. The moon was a tool to get everyone to have more national pride, and to make sure we were better then the commies..

Incorrect correlation. Lots of people are doing it, and doing it cheaply. Look at the people that modify there cars to electric only usage (not Prius' but others). Look at the guys building sleds here. There is innovation abound. Entry into markets has a high cost, as that comes with high responsibility and also high rewards.

Anyways, nice tangent off to how your generation is better and how government sucks...

I thought we were talking about socialism. So if only government needs to force it, then it looks like socialism is the way. Thanks for coming full circle. :p

That doesn't make any sense. The desire is the incentive. Plain and simple as that. It comes from with in, always has. Money has only been a tool to bring it out, as a means of tricking our selves to strive to do better. There are those that do not find it internally, so the look externally (at money and things) to gratify themselves.

The insanity you preach is hilarious...

If you actually owned a business with employees then you'd realize how wrong you are... Don't bother asking me to expand on this thought... If you don't already know then you wouldn't understand what I was talking about.

BTW genius.... "irregardless" isn't a real word.... The correct phrase is "regardless"... Adding "ir" shows me you still haven't a clue. Tell me what school taught you that word and I'll be sure to avoid it.?

Priceless!!!

Take a deep look into your argument slim. All you are talking about and looking down on is the fact that people do stuff for just money. Yes it is wrong but nonetheless there are more people with that train of thought than there are not.

We'll start with illegals. They do whatever work they can for cold hard cash that they pay NO taxes on whatsoever. Then send the money they make to their families in Mexico.

Now we'll roll over to the welfare side of the house. These 'people' have been trained by your government and past generations that you CAN do nothing and GET PAID for it. They live off the government and I have to pay for it because I DO take pride in my work and the more PRIDE i put into my work the more THE GOVERNMENT takes out of my paycheck.

Once upon a time it wasn't all about money. Once you start giving handouts, it goes downhill from there.

Don't worry, I already know most of what comes out of your mouth is BS....

Thanks again captain spell checker... here is an atta boy for you!

Spell check fixes misspelled words... Not understanding the definition shows your lack of intelligence.

"irregardless" or "regardless"...... misspelled? No. Cleary you don't understand.... Like so many other things.....

I love reading about your comments on this considering that the biggest gamble money wise you have made in your long life is your vehicle and sled....

Sounds like you've got this all figured out... LMFAO!!

You're right, they're called liberals.
Why work when your newly elected leader will take care of you just for voting for him.

I DO take pride in what I do, regardless of whether there is a dollar in it for me.
I will never collect welfare or expect something for nothing.
I grew up with the knowledge that if you wanted something in life then you had to work hard for it.

Loosen up the Birkenstocks and drop the Hookah Ruffy, you sound a little nuts today.

hmm... I guess it is a real word.
Merriam - Webster
A little history for you..
Today's lesson is over. Stay tuned tomorrow. :beer;
Priceless!!!
nah, I would pay a buck... maybe buck fifty... :p I really would have thought captain spellchecker would have been more on the ball. Sad sad day..

my economics professor described it like this

Capitalism is an unequal distribution of wealth

Communism is an equal distribution of poverty.

Loosen up the Birkenstocks and drop the Hookah Ruffy, you sound a little nuts today.

Holy sheet!! He has lost his mind...you need to get out on the sled Ruff....

Ruffy, Why do you work extra hours during the week? If money didn't matter to you, then just take the days off to ride....why did you become an engineer instead of a dozer operator? Why did you study hard in school if are just going to give it up to others? By the way, it's been at least a week since you purchased a round, you're due to pay your share.....:beer;:beer;

Heres the difference between what I do and how I got to where I am vs communism.

It was MY CHOICE.
I didn't have anyone tell me where I had to live, what I had to drive, where I got my doctor from. It was all my choice.
Communism removes choice for the betterment of the nation, or at least that is the dogma they spew.

What did going to the moon get us...........
wow, didn't they teach you ANYTHING in school?
Ya like ceramics?
How about plastics?
Ya like your microwave?
There is a HUGE long list of stuff we got from the space program (which was only partly funded by the feds).

As for my generation.
Well, lets see.
Microcomputers, modern medicine.
anything to do with lasers.
Cellular research look off with my generation.
Long list.

Lets see....
20 somethings (as a whole).
Lazyness
false sence of entitlement.
the ability to blame absolutely everything on someone else.

Seriously ruffy, there is a reason every nation that has tried communism has FAILED.
