Ah yeah the newer cars are always more fuel efficient right. WRONG, I had a 1983 ford escort with a diesel in it that would range from 45 to 50 MPG. Recently with the exception of the new VW you couldn't hardly find a new car that would crack 40.
Why??? THE EPA regs have forced the manufacturers to use more fuel to reduce what comes out of the tailpipe. Sounds stupid but that's how it works. additional systems to run need additional fuel. As an example, Diesels in particular use more fuel for the re-gen process in the new particulate collectors, or WTF ever the name is on them, to burn up the buildup in the unit. Basically making a canister full of flame under your vehicle.
Another one of the govt programs that says it's for one thing and doesn't even come close to getting to the "problem" that they are targeting. Looks more like to me that their trying to buy more votes the next time around. Just like health care reform.
