Haven't seen or heard any talk about it, seems pretty interesting that Skidoo has REALLY made a LIGHTWEIGHT 4 stroke. Snowest says it weighs 499#?

It's in a modified REV chassis, can't remember what it is called, but wouldn't throwing a turbo on that be a pretty nice high HP, reliable, lightweight 4 stroke?

Am I missing something here?

I could see Doo themselves putting a turbo & long track on that thing for '10

Once they blaze the trail, maybe the others will then follow?

The "reliable" part is still on the table...especially with boost.

....Doo has been putting out 215hp, and 255hp supercharged engines in their watercraft for years now. And they are like a timex. There is a reason why they are number one in the watercraft world. Those motors are solid.

Ace

I bet that watercraft motor has a ton more weight into the crank and other parts.

.....2000lbs might be a stretch:face-icon-small-ton.....I am interested in knowing how much, if any more, the watercraft engine weighs over the new sled motor.

Seems there would be a bunch more inherent reliability in a 130 HP 4 stroke doing it under 8000 RPM than one doing it at 10,000 + !!!

Good Luck

well i have seen a ton of watercraft 2strokes in sleds. there must be a reason they ( aftermarket sled guys ) havent done this with a 4 stroke watercraft motors yet .. weight ?. to big. ? not enough gain ? what though ?

Uh, the Nytro engine runs at 8600 rpm......

I have no doubt in my mind that this new 4-stroke will handle some good power. There other fourstroke engines are nearly bullet proof. This just happens to be there first go round in sleds.
I believe they will have far more issues through there chassis, and more even more so in there clutches. I like the adjust-ability with the TRA, but its inherent heat issues will gobble up belts once you start throwing tons of power at it. IMO.

I look forward to seeing this new machine. But am no where near willing to jump ship back to BRP until its proven they can build a quality machine capable of handling high HP.

For the number of machines they had out there this season, it sounds like the # of problems were reletively low.
Talked to quite a few happy XP riders, and none had major problems.
What more can you ask for?

But ace....your talking about 1500 cc watercraft stuff. Impressive, but really not in the scheme of things. And reliable? Questionable, 1 of the 2 my neighbour had was always in for some problem or another. But regardless, if Doo can keep this new sled together, it should be something to work with!

If yamaha came out with a 1000cc, 4 stroke with 130HP AND under 500#, it would be the main focus of these forums and herald as a great acheivement!

Yamaha came out with the "lightweight" phazer at about 520#? and HP of about 80, and it was the next best thing since sliced bread.

I just don't understand why there isn't more chatter or excitement about this sled??

If it is reliable, it sure will make yamaha shed some weight...I hope!

oh now you did it!!! no way anyone else could ever built a 4 stroke.

Well first of all, I think Doo has to beef up the chassis to be a player in the high pony/torque game. Lots of twist on the bulkhead, and Yamaha knows that.. thus the extra weight.
As far as the Phazer... a good kids trail sled, A buddy of mine owns one, and it sucked in snow deeper than 1 foot.. It was a fun sled, good suspension and ride.. but that 14 inch track chainsawed through like no tomorrow.

The reason it is not a big thing on this site, is because it is being developed as a trail sled. When they play with the deeper snow and incline, you will see more interest in this Mountain forum.

I am looking forward to seeing what some modders do with this unit...

Good times Charlie brown!:D

Show me a single one, just one, that has handled the high hp like my comment states.............

i dont think you will have to wait and see what the modders do, i think you will see it in 2010, i asked my dealer to ask the big shots at the florida meeting, some specific questions, and he came back with the answers i wanted, but could not give me a rock solid yes. what i want is a 505 pound 190 to 200 horse pump gas sled with a waranty, i hope it happens

Let's not get ahead of ourselves here. The proving ground is in the mountains not with the keyboard.

I know someone who will be turboing one of these before the snow melts this year. should be cool to see. Good for ski doo for innovating, now lets just hope the clutching can handle it.

I am glad to finally see someone build a 500lb 4 stroke.
Means all the others will follow soon enough.
