So my sledding budget just got cut into today

I am JUST finishing up a water damage claim on my house from June....Be careful with insurance company and always embelish what you have damaged JUST to come out even with your true damage IMO. Since it is water damage dont forget to get a mold medigation company in there to give it a "clean bill of health" if you dont have this paper document you will have to disclose it on a sale and if a future buyer even sniffs a mold possibility that company will hang you for thousands!

Looks like an increase in your sledding budget to me. Get some contractors out there for bids and then do some of the work yourself.

Just an idea.

It is what I would try to do.

I came back from a week's vacation to find my ice maker had decided to leak. He11 of a mess, but not as bad as yours. My insurance covered it but like stated before, EMBELISH. Good luck

When I leave the house for weekends I always turn off the water in the house. Years ago I was watching TV in the family room which had a bathroom nearby. I heard a stange noise. Went to check it out and the toilet line had blown off the back and was shooting water everywhere. I always think about that when I walk out the door.

Yeah Buddy!!

I think the water got in your sled and blew the motor, chain case, electrical etc. Call your insurance guy and the wife can pick out new wall colors and you pick out a new sled;)

As a minimum I am sure it became a catalyst for corrosion eh! That there is the ultimate capatilist!!!.... god how I love to see people that can think.... 'specially since we never get to see anything out of the thousands we spend on insurance over a lifetime....

Just a little update

Thanks for all the suggestions and replies.
Just a little update for you all.
We got Service Master by restoration experts over there late last night and they pulled up all the carpet and took out the pads. I have about 40 fans in my house trying to dry stuff out. Seriously that's not an exaggeration. The Insurance should be covering everything except the deductible. :) So that is good. Sheet rock is being cut out and the kitchen floor is being pulled up right now. The adjust will be out first thing in the morning to see what damage there is. There is realy only 2 rooms that haven't been affected in some way. So its pretty extensive damage. Tell you one thing this stupid swamp (evap) cooler is getting taken out durring the remodel and we are going to put in central air after this. Just not worth the hasle for that stupid thing anymore.

Thanks for the explanation of the cooler Snowizard. :)

I am an insurance adjuster I do property and vehicle claims.
I love how people think when a person makes a claim they should LIE And then everyone complains about paying high rates. The reason rates are high is because of B.S claims.

A insurance policy is a contract all the insurance company has to do is hold up there end of the contract.

I have work many claims that have gone over $100,000.00 not a bad pay out for your $80.00 something a month in cost for the policy.

As long as it was a sudden rush of water and not a water leak over time that did the damage you should be fine with your insurance company. You have a lot of damage on your hands. Good luck with everything.

On a positive note, your house has some quality latex paint!

Seriously, sorry to hear about this kind of thing, good luck with it man.

OMG... You must be a greenie. You have got to be kidding if you think the rates are connected to a claimants claims. Your right about ONE thing it is a contract and keep in mind these contracts are WRITTEN by the lawyers at your company to exclude payouts...they weigh situations and input the correct lingo. Now as far as our rates the investment side of your company is the direct cause SO i am sure rates will hike but not likely to claims.

As for people lying, you and I both know that this entire claim would be denied if he said it was a plugged drain line VS a broken one. So IF he needs to say a pipe broke rather than got plugged well it "broke".

And dont give me that crap about insureds can buy endorsments! A basic policy should cover basic things WITHOUT "endorsments"

I have no idea why you would think I am a greenie (I own a boat, 2 4-wheelers 1 motorcycle and a sled) but whatever
Nobody MAKES you sign the policy if you don’t like the exclusions DON’T BUY THE POLICY.

So if a person is a dumb a$$ and plugs there own toilet or sets there house on fire on pushes there car off a cliff they should be paid by the insurance company??

Good Luck Yamadoo I hope everything works out for you

P.S Be nice to you adjuster, they work hard!:)

Ahhh man that looks bad, I hope things go well for you, I've seen positive things come out of incidents like this, hopefully you end up better off then you were before. That paint is amazing....we should use that stuff to coat the floor our enclosed trailers, looks like it hold water well:eek:
Does the sled have water damage?

Ok guys no need to lie here. The water line broke, and was not caused by freezing. Totally legit claim here. And no the sled and wheeler have no damage therefore I am not going to claim that there is. I will be nice to the adjuster as long as he is fair with us. It works both ways. I am not out to get more then what stuff is worth, but I do want a fair assessment.
