we dropped in there yesterday, first tracks in. took a couple runs up, there was a big break in the snow 20 yards from the top. be safe.

wow, never knew that was the hill that killed the guy from s.d. been back to that area a few times and wouldn't have thought that hill could be very dangerous. any of you iowa guys need an extra dts tracker let me know, I am in marshalltown. matt

The hill looks completely different without snow. After it slid it looked about 20 degrees steeper. As previously stated it is just grass underneath, so nothing to hold the snow. You would think with the trees at the top like they are that it would not get wind loaded, but thats not the case. It creates a pillow of snow clear at the top and that is where it breaks at. I just hope the north end dont dont catch someone because they could end up buried deep because the creek is right at the base there.
 
That hill can be nasty up top when the snow's thin. As previously said, it's grass and flat/slick rocks at the top, and steeper than it looks. In 2000 was running up it at a good speed on a mod 99' 700 RMK, hit the upper part and lost all grip. Track spun out on me, WFO going backwards! Bailed as it started to end-doe .. hit the big trees on the right 1/3 of the way up. Had a h*ll of a time getting it out of there .. and expensive fix.

Got shivers just looking at the pics :(
