Snowy Mountain Lodge

Tog9,
I sure am actually. You only have to be 18 in NE and IA and I think it's 19 in WY. My family and I are the ones interested in buying the property so it's not just me. I'll tell you the first thing we are going to do is knock out that gift shop and put in a nice big bar! Thanks for your input though!!!:beer;

WOE SPARKY, i wouldn't be making any promises, once you talk to the FS and the owners, you will have a HUGE eye opener. It's not as easy as writing a check and backing up the Bud Light truck. There are so many hoops to jump through you better have a 3 ring circus!!! Good luck, i hope you do make it happen. I need somewhere to eat and drink up there!!

I.m thinking it is 21 in Wyoming?? Another thing to consider is a liquor licsense- I dont think they come easy ;)

Good luck I wish you or anyone else well with SML

I know there are hoops to jump through and it'll be a long way to the finish line. My father and I are going to try our best to see what we can do. I will say that I do appreciate the optimism, but not the naysaying. I understand that there is a lengthy process to all of this and I don't think that it is as easy as "writing a check and backing up the BL truck." I might be young, but I am not dumb when it comes to business. So for those of you who want to support this possibility feel free to comment, but if all you have to do is say it's not possible then I ask you politely to take the negativity somewhere else. I am, just like a lot of other people, trying to possibly start a career that will not only benefit myself, but many others along the way. This will be a learning experience for me, and if you have any pointers let me know. I hope that I can get something going that is worthwhile to myself and all of you. BTW, I am putting a call to the F.S. around 2:30 CST. I will do my best to keep everyone up to date with what I find out.

Cheers:beer;

Just to keep things straight, i wasn't saying you will fail or putting your ideas down. Just saying be prepared for alot of work and headaches. I hope you do get it going, we need a fellow sledder running things the way we all would like to see. Or atleast try, you can't please everyone. So good luck on your venture and keep us posted. PM me your email and i will help you out with contact info. if you want

Just observing the response to the "naysayers" makes me question whether you're disposed to being in the hospitality business. It REQUIRES you to take all that's coming at you and handle it while trying to turn it into a positive.

That is not what happened a few posts ago. You told potential customers to 'go elsewhere'. You NEED to know all the perceived (real or not) hurdles in front of you.

P.S. If I read the law right, in WY you can't pour a beer or mix a drink until 21.

.

We stayed at mountain meadow last year my buddy smashed his sled up on a tree and chris spent half a day with him getting it back together and wouldnt take a dime, cant wait to get there again!

best wishes

Well, pup, I can tell you this much - if you LOVE to snowmobile, you will HATE owning a hospitality business in snowmobile country. You will be lucky to get a day off to do anything. It's a lot of hard work, and very long hours. If you're prepared to give everything up to make it work, then I say good luck to you. No negativity intended, just facts from having first hand experience.

Nothing to do with like or dislike. Honestly, I hope BOOSTBONER succeeds. Bonus for all of us. Having SML closed, sucks.

SML

Why dont you and Tog buy it? Then my friends and you 2, can stay there instead of the French Creek Snotel. Sorry, if this keeps coming up but there just isnt alot going on SW.......SML has such potential to be a great place. I have big group headin out the 16th-21st, hope the weather changes and dumps powder for us.

other than replacing the septic systems (plural) and the lodge roof and repairing the cabins and being virtually closed for 4 months of the year and always being beholden to government bureaucrats... yeah, it's got potential

What is the latest on this place, anyone know? Six months ago the FS said they current owner had 1 year to move the bldgs or sell it with a renewed FS lease.

Really? I talked with the FS in Laramie last October ish and they said the current owner has three options.

1. Pay up.
2. Sell it with a new lease.
3. Move the bldgs within 1 year, maybe it was two years.

i'd talked to a number of FS people and was told nothing of that sort of 1 year mandate
