Snowy Mountain Lodge

Who do you think took the bar out! It wasn,t Dave. What happened to the bar in the Old Corral. See the connection yet! Don't hold your breath for a bar under that owner. All these people who need a bar should get together, buy the Lodge and make it their snowmobiliers paradise!! Sure is easy to talk about it. Sorry, just tired of hearing all the things people would do if they were in charge but there is only one way to be in charge!

Chris.... Its sounds like your ready for a break. Starting to hear from a few of your long time customers that you sure are pissy these days.

It doesnt matter what you offer for services, If your short and rude with people they wont be back.

Just something to keep in mind. Eric

previous owner

The previous owner, who sold to Dave, was Richard. He looked like an old hippie, with long ponytail. He and his partner also own some resort in Belize, South America. He told us he knew too many friends who lost their lives to alcohol, so that's why they didn't serve it at SML. We heard later that he was saving big bucks on his insurance by not serving alcohol.;) I had heard the insurance savings was why Dave did not sell alcohol either. Unless there was a HUGE increase in insurance, I would think that the money from alcohol sales would easily make up for it. In the "old days" I would bet 75-80% of the sledders on the mountain would make it a point to stop for a few at SML, and that, in turn, would usually lead to getting something to eat too.:D

No doubt I'm getting a little selective in my old age! I'm nice to most of the people I want back and the rest depends on what kind of mood I'm in at the time. If you are just plain stupid I make no effort. I'm definitely leaning towards a change of pace and being open on a limited basis in the winter catering to a group of people who can tolerate me or maybe just my wife( I'll just ride alot more). Bars aren't for me, they just get me in trouble! As far as gas, You get all the permits and a way to get gas up here and I'll be happy to sell gas for $4.00 a gallon. If you are clean and a non-smoker give me a try and if I'm nice it might mean I'd book you again, I'm getting too old to be nice to everyone! I'm even nice to alot of people who have used me for years and never stayed here. If I hurt your feelings I guess you just need thicker skin, or start making the 80 mile round trip to Laramie every night. Alot of on trail businesses are close to not being open.

I've heard great things about you and your place, planning on staying with you some time. Hope I as a customer can keep you happy:confused: You sound bitter man....

^^^^^I agree with this and it goes with reasons not just reading them here^^^^^

BUT in Chris's defense I will say this. I knew Chris when he first was getting going up there and he was full of enthusiasm and helpful with a smile to everyone. And now the statement you made is mostly true. I am not typing this to pizz you off Chris I am saying this hopefully so you know its an observation by the majority and it gives you an opportunity to reflect on it and possibly help your business. Or maybe you dont want to help this???maybe running this type of business has a term and you have reached it??
I truly do not know how you do it day in and day out. Working with the public is a challenge and some of the public is alot more challenging than others to put it politely. Chris is a good guy he is just getting cal-list, if I ever needed help I am sure he would be there. If someone is lost he is there, he is a good supporter of our sledding sport so keep supporting him. I am sure I speak for EVERYONE Chris and if there was anyway you could take over the SML I am sure peeps would support you. I am also sure you are tired of reading all the "what could be" posts. I will end with a hats off to you:beer; You say you dont do the bar thing but if you want to make a exception sometime I will buy you a few of these:beer;:beer; -Cheers

If it hasn't happened yet it probably shouldn't besides then I would feel obligated to go get you when you get stuck somewhere. Bitter would probably be the wrong word, more like tired. I'm just ready to ride all the places I want to ride before they are shut down or my body falls apart! Himark slipped in there while I was posting in case this is confusing because I'm not sure if he likes to camp. After 13 years I still have enthusiasium it's just shifted a bit.

I'm still listening......so any details on the "permits" required for this? I'm guessing if it was 'easy' then either you or Kody would have done it already(?).

We used to pull 300 gallon barrels up here but the Forest Service put a stop to that. We wouldn't make it past the public comment part of the permit process to sell gas not to mention overcoming the expense of set up.

Chris, you have been nothing but GREAT to our group the last 4 years. Your willingness to help with sleds, lodging, transportation has been top notch!! You were one hell of a guide for us our first year at mmc. We often talked about all the crap you must put up with, I mean you cant make this stuff up. Keep up the great work, we will continue to tolerate you!

I wonder if the people who complain about the service at MM or the former SML are the ones who park like a-holes, steal stuff from parked vehicles and take breaks in the middle of the trails too??? I feel for Connie and Chris 'cause I think there are a lot of inconsiderate people that ride these days. Don't get me wrong, I've met a ton of nice people, but a bunch dicks too.

My husband and I have nothing but the highest respect for Chris & Michelle at Mountain Meadows. We all need more people like them on the mountain. We stay there everytime we go sledding. They are always pleasant to deal with and talk to, but then again we respect their property and requests.

I believe in todays world that most people dont respect other peoples properties or wishes, they feel entitled to do what they please because they are a paying customer. Any business that deals with the public will always have pr cks to deal with, unfortunitly these are the memories that last the longest in our thoughts. Chris if you ever have a free day to ride I sure would like to tag along, theres alot of mountain out there that I have not seen.

Chris and Mountain Meadow

Hey, this post has morphed from SML to Mountain Meadow. That's the point! SML didn't know how to take care of sledders and they are history. I don't know how many years we've been going to Chris + Michelle, but we treat them with respect, and they've always taken good care of us. We've heard the stories of the idiots who rent a sled, it gets stuck or breaks down, they go back to Chris and want their money back, but can't tell Chris where they left the sled on the mountain. Only ONCE did one of his sleds break down on us, but we towed it back to him. Seems simple enough. A lot of people come to the mountains, but forget to pack some common sense. We've got two trips reserved at Mountain Meadow, and we will continue to go there as long as they stay in business.:D As far as Chris and his "moods", wouldn't we all be a little calloused after putting up with these idiots?

I have been dealing with chris for many years and can understand why he can get a little disgusted sometimes I too have to deal with the public in my business and it seams like more and more people are trying to take advantage of your services but there are some I would do anything for because they show patiance and respect. I hope they can get snowy lodge going again the way I see it any business on the mountian is an asset to snowmobiling.

Tog9,
I sure am actually. You only have to be 18 in NE and IA and I think it's 19 in WY. My family and I are the ones interested in buying the property so it's not just me. I'll tell you the first thing we are going to do is knock out that gift shop and put in a nice big bar! Thanks for your input though!!!:beer;
