snowmobilers missing out of grizzly creek

BUTTA- on the Forums was up there yesterday sent me a text this am and said they went on a SAR last night and got some guys out last night around 930. Maybe the same guys, eh?

The guys are from Fort Collins, A buddy of mine is roommates with one of the missing. From what we have heard through the grapevine today, the guys got stuck on the mountain in yesterdays snow storm and triggered an Avy trying to get out, spending the night in a snow cave.

A few hours ago reports indicate the guys where in contact with SAR, not sure if that's by cell phone or helicopter sighting? The guys where able to text there GPS location last night to friends and family. That's all I know.

2 Routt SAR trucks/trailers were in the parking lot when we came out at 4:30 today.

Thoughts and prayers to all involved and that a safe and successful rescue is in short order.

That's not a nice place to stay the night, let alone two.

I was up there today and the fresh snow is 48" plus deep with no bottom and that was just by the Ears. Getting sleds and gear into rescue these men is gonna be tough. Props to SAR.:face-icon-small-coo

Where the missing riders all riding Polaris Pros? We were in that area and came across a group of about 6 from Fort Collins who were all on Pros.

Just spoke w/ some folks related to those searching, and there is a full search on.

Sounds like Lynn, Chad & Tim are not the ones missing.

Provisional info here, 3rd party - so keep in mind things may change.

The folks that are lost are from Ft. Collins - a father & sons, and are experienced riders. (names purposely withheld)

It sounds like the heli has been possibly able to locate them, but couldn't get to them due to terrain/wind/light challenges.

Not sure if this is a stuckfest, injury, or avalanche related yet.
It didn't sound like contact had yet been established. (this may have changed as the report was delayed a bit)

Search crews are very motivated, including some very accomplished riders.

Let's hope for a positive outcome for all!!

MD.

We were the group of 6 riders on Pro's up there, and we went back up that night to get 2 other stuck sledders out of a nasty hole.

There was a lot of misinformation floating around about these currently missing sledders bouncing around that night. We met the Sheriff's rescue team and a member of our group even talked to a relative of the missing brothers. We had a GPS fix to investigate, but there was no alarming tone directed to the "search"....we looked around the GPS position we had been given, and saw no tracks or reason to continue based on our guidance from family.

Beyond that, anything I know about the situation is 3rd hand knowledge at best. You hear a lot of different things during a situation like this, and the best parts are that it appears rescuers are getting close to reaching them. I've heard there could have been an avalanche and that there may be injuries. The news of recent communication with them is highly encouraging! Hopefully the snowcat is tending to them as I type....

If there's no rescue through the night, I may be heading up tomorrow to aid in whatever way I can.

It wasn't us 6 on the pros, but it is some buddys of ours. We were on our way out of the parking lot yesterday n got a call from my boss saying him and another friend were stuck and couldn't get out. So we geared up again and went out and found them a about 9:00. While we were out we figured we would call the boys dad and find out if he had heard from them since we realized there truck was still in the parking lot. He told us that they were stuck and gave us there last gps cords and said they were making there way to the road. There were no signs of them anywhere. We didn't want to do too much boondocking in the dark and we were soaked. So we had to come down, even knowing they are experienced/prepared riders we hated to leave knowing they were still up there. We contacted search n rescue and they had already been contacted. There dad, brother, some felkers crew, plus a lot more went up this morning. Last I heard they still haven't been found. All my prayers are going out for the boys, hope they find them soon.

If they are not found tonight I will be riding up there tomorrow out of the steamboat side. If anyone is going to look or has an idea were they are pm me.
Thanks to Jason from Steamboat Snowmobile Tours for sending a snowcat to help and Routt SAR for looking.
