I need an engine....so I turn to trusty SW swap meet.

I found an engine in the swap meet in May.

Sent some emails to the seller about it.
I’m not messing around with interpretations of the situation here.
I have cut and pasted the conversation.
Facts are facts.

The heads are by hot seat. I knew a lot of 800 motors had issues with blowing up between 2 and 3000 miles, this one had 2600 on prior to rebuild. So after talking with dealer, I decided to have them go through it, put big bearing kit in bottom end, go through crank, new pistons, rings, heads ect. All ready to go now!
The price was just for motor but seeings how its summer, I will include all that you asked for, recoil, water pump, oil pump ect.

Let me know if you are interested, its an awesome motor and ready to go!

Thanks

I do have three I attached. I assure you, it is in mint shape, really an awesome motor for a great price, like I said, I just put $1400+ into it 400 miles ago. Let me know.

Thanks

I wanted to know more about what specifically was done to the crank....

And he says:

They told me they went through it, I know it was trued, besides that I don't know for sure. If you want I can call them and see if I can find out for you.

I do have another guy who emailed me asking about it just to let you know, don't know how serious he is.

Let me know

You don't say in your post what you ended up getting for an engine. How did the transaction go bad, you're missing some info?

I just got some parts on here from Blijas. It was a great transaction and I highly recommend dealing with him if you ever need anything he's selling.

A while ago someone suggested a spot on the forum that would list transactions and the buyer and seller could rate the sale. We would be able to go to this and get an idea if someone was reputable as a buyer or seller. This is a very good idea, may have saved you some grief if someone else already had dealings with this guy.

At this point, he has clearly stated that there has been crank work done with wide bearings...or am I reading too much into that?

So just to be clear I asked again:

I tried finding the bill, I couldn't though so I called the dealership. The mechanic that worked on it wasn't there as he left for the day but I did speak with another guy who I told him what was told to me and he said that from what I told him, they went through the whole crank, big bearing, trued it, new pistons, rings, billet head ect. There was a warranty of 3 months or 1000 miles also however it has been more than 3 months. Even though it only has 400, well 397 to be exact since rebuild. This motor rips, I assure you that you won't be dissapointed.Ryan

Once again, he reiterates there has been crank work and new big bearings and that this engine is sound. He assures (guartees?) me the engine is in great condition!!!

So I go ahead and buy the motor.
PayPal has good protection right?
It arrives on June 24th @ 6:06pm mountain standard time.

Based on the emails above…..
What should I expect to receive?
What should the quality of the engine be?
What should it have done to it?

I'm having problems getting stuff posted...it won't let me post it all at once.

HERE is the problem:

Motor sits in my shop all weekend still in the shipping tub.
Didn’t touch it except to cut the zip ties and pull the lid off.

Weds July 29th, 5 days later, I deliver the motor down to T8rz Porting in Hazelton, Idaho. This is Wayde Johnson, turbotater on the forums. This is a guy that I TRUST COMPLETELY with my sled motor.

He starts to open the motor and look around.
He sends me a text. Problems.
He says…we have deto’d pistons with NO wash.
He says we have score cylinders.
He puts a dial on the crank and says the runout is .008 It’s got a SERIOUS wobble.
He splits the case and finds NO wide bearing. The PTO end slid off when he lifted the crank out. SLID OFF!!!!!!!!

Got pics and vids to show what was sent to me.

Here ya go. You decide for yourself.
Did this engine arrive I the condition that was promised to me?

Can you spot the piston wash and detonation?

How is the water intake? I bet NOTHING went into the fins of the impellar, right? Pull the rope and ride. It’s ready to run.

WIDE BEARING?????

IMG00097.jpg

This is what it did when Wayde pulled the crank out of the case:
The bearings had spun on the crank.

BTW, THIS is what a wide bearing kit looks like. Is that was I got?

There it is….these are the pics and vid of what the shop sent me.

Did I get what I was promised?

Is the motor trashed??? What's the problem???? I have replaced bearings in every brand of sled and with no issues??? I would not worry about an USED motor with new Crank bearings..

"Houston, we have a problem" ok, making since now, posting problems.
Hope you got a smoking deal on that motor. good luck!

He said it had wide bearings, new crank work, good pistons and all that. He assured me it was GREAT. He said it ran fine when he pulled it out of the chassis.

It turned out to have a broken crank, detonated pistons and scored cylinders.

He said the pistons looked good through exhaust port, but the shop could see the scoring and deto through the exhaust port.

It wasn't what he said it was...and he doesn't give a rip. He won't stand behind the fact he sent me something totally different than I was promised.

Yes i have. They said they don't insure the quality of the purchase...just the receipt.

They said GFYS.
