Snowest deep powder challenge-sled weights

I love all the people who say weight doesn't matter... total horsepoo.

Weight is HUGE. People who think it doesn't matter have never ridden an honest light weight sled to see the difference.

5 lbs doesn't matter, but you feel 20, and you REALLY feel 40, once you round the 70 mark it's truly amazing what a difference it is.

You have to lose 5 to lose 70, so it's all incremental. The lighter you start, the lighter you'll get. (in general, some can't lose as much as others)

btw, for the skidoo... fuel capacity is 10.6, lower than the other two sleds without a doubt, but to be fair, the doo measured should be a 146, as it has a more similar footprint to the cat or poo 153 & 155. the 154 doo is similar to the 163 sleds really. (they still suck, MY dealer told me so:heh:)

Dork! Get back to work.

You are so right. My D8 motor was without a doubt stronger than my Pro (the D8 was slightly modded). But the Pro would work it all day long. I'm not touting the Pro, but I am touting the weight difference. There is a lot between the two. The Pro gets on the snow where the D8 has to fight through the snow.

Footprint sizes. I'm sure the Doo guys would be pissed if the Powder Challenge had a 146 track!

153X15 = 2295
155X15 = 2325
146X16 = 2336

You guys get way to hung up on weight. pretty soon you will be ridding around with a 1/4 tank and have your wife's packing 5 gallon Jerry cans. weight isn't that crucial if its balanced right.

I have sort of done that, but would start with a full tank and dump the can off
the wifes sled as soon as possible. I used twice the fuel as she did and she didn't ride aggressive so it didn't bother her. Plus I build her sleds and fix her sleds and before her new one with electric, started em too!!!

Good Luck

My new sled no need to carry fuel, it generally outlast everybody else even if they carry fuel.

weight dont matter.xp gets the power to the snow better

When the XP came and was the lightest weight mattered now all of the sudden it don't matter?

I don't care if the XP does get the power to the snow better (which I am skeptical on anyway) I have a heck of a time riding one in the powder with its heavy steering and always wanting to drop the outside ski back to the ground.

The fact is the Skidoo E-tech goes higher and better in deep powder than the other two sleds. It's been tested and is a fact.

.

how is that a tested fact? is there no rider on them so rider error isn't part of the equation? Not to mention the difference in rider weight too.

Which is why everyone at skidoo loves their stock clutching right?!? They definitely haven't ever said that they have experienced extra clutch heat or blowing belts too frequently :face-icon-small-win

You guys are all about to see how balanced sleds make more of a difference then weight.. Soon as the 12 cats hit the snow, heavier but easier to ride and are 20 sled lengths ahead in a drag. You will realize what the engineers have been working on.

The world is changing as we know it!

I was one of the Deep Powder test riders. I rode all 3 machines back to back and the Skidoo Etech shined! And I hate the XP! Hate it with a passion! Trust me if the tested XP sucked I would have made sure that got into the Swowest artical!

On that day in 1.5 -2 feet of powder, the XP was better in almost every way. The 2011 Etech is a deep powder machine that had a ton of the wow factor while the Pro RMK was just a little tighter handling than the M8 and those two sleds had almost NO wow factor to them.

Fact is the Pro RMK needs more power to get me to go WOW! And the M8 is just plain OLD feeling compared to the XP and Pro. But a Turbo'd M8 has all the WOW you need!

Seems how you love what mags have to say about your beloved XP read up on Deep pow challenge and what they say about clutch temps for all 3 after they are Hot

Pro primary-80 secondary-82
Cat primary-103 secondary-95
Doo primary-180 secondary-102

The XP is missing getting the power to the ground with temps like that.

Was the write up good info, you bet but for me I really had to laugh that even in the end the Doo riders like the XP and the Polaris riders like the Pro...so it goes to show preference is key as to what fits you best.

I know you need to come over here and defend your XP and keep telling yourself that you made the right choice when you know you should have swapped over to the Pro :D

Looks like ACmtncat just added while I typed that the XP had WOW factor and he's a Cat guy!! The XP is a great sled but not for me. I prefer a blend of great power and a chassis that does what I ask it to...and for me it's the Pro.

i love how ski doo and polaris all advertise there dry weights so light but in the reality is that they all measure there stuff with absolutely no fluids at all while arctic cat weighs there dry weights as its going into the crate with all fluids in the shocks and drive case. the only fluid that isnt measured is fuel and in the oil tank. thats why they seem heavier than doo and poo.

Just like the '08 XP was the BEST sled ever, the Pro RMK got it's day in the 2011 lime light. Next year we will look back on the Pro RMK and think "What a dog that sled was!".

2012 will be Cats time to shine! AND IT WILL SHINE!:face-icon-small-coo

heres the thread where they weighed a 2011 pro rmk 155 this fall...sled is fresh out of the crate and prepped....all fluids full except 1 pint 2 stroke oil and enough fuel to start it(about 2.5 gallons on the 100 or so polaris I prep every season)..sled came in at 452 pds..if you subtract all fluids that will remove roughly 20 pds..leaving 432pds..polaris claimed 431...on the same scales a cat 800 snopro weighed 476......a 24 pd diff....snowest numbers look pretty close to me...

What happen to the XP weights? I thought when they came out in 08 they were sub 450#? Now they are 50+ more pounds.

The old 98X I had weighed 495.

XP is still my favorite ride, even though I no longer own one.

I love the way the Cat guys have declared victory for the upcoming year and very few have even ridden one. It's like the NFL Detroit Lions fans...just wait until next year!

all i know is after banging all the snow off my nytro from a ride, i end up with probly over 20 lbs. of snow and ice on the garage floor. It only matters slightly what they weigh clean and dry, IMO the sled that sheds the snow the best will outperform the rest. That rear skid of mine just piles up with ice, thus the reasoning behind the timbersled i'll be putting in this summer.

I like how the Poo guys think nothing can touch the Pro ride, like it's light years inhead of the other two sleds! They are great sleds but the other two are no sloutches!

Cat ProClimb with improved rear suspension and Fox Evol's up front, chassis and steering improvements, drive train and power to the ground improvements with a great powder track to boot. All that, AND the BEST MOST MOD-ABLE 2 smoke motor out of them all!

Next year all three of the 2 smokes are going to be AWESOME! but I would say that the ProClimb is going to out perform the Pro ride next year without a doubt!
